  • You should do a video about "vehicle reliability" as a topic. I feel like there are a lot of misconceptions out there about why vehicles are unreliable, what ratings like JD Power means etc. It would be nice to have a car channel go over the ins and outs of what makes a vehicle reliable and what doesn't. And I could think of no better channel to do it.

    • This is a MINI the size of a VW Golf, on a longer wheelbase with more passenger room. So when you compare an automatic Golf R with the Clubman JCW, the weight difference is far less than this review video alludes to. It's just the nature of cars in 2024. The much smaller 3-door JCW hatchback weighs a lot less than the clubman JCW, something like 800 lbs. less.

  • My spouse and I own an F54 and F57. Both are sticks and both are a riot to drive and wonderful to own. They put a smile on my face whenever I look back at them. And the commute is so much more bearable. It makes me wonder why people malign BMW Mini. Sure they changed from the original. But these 3rd gens are gems IMO. BMW sure did a better job than the badge engineering dumpster fire of GM/Saab. The only "downside" is BMW maintenance costs, but DIY solves that. Anyway, as many have said. As the world continues to spit out appliances with no personality, I'll be holding on the one of the last fun cars until someone pulls it from my cold dead hands. Hopefully the 4th gen brings along the same magic. Btw, both have been two of the most reliable and well- made cars we have owned-including Hondas, Toyotas and Mazdas. But you need to look after them with regular and thoughtful maintenance.

    • I own one as well and it's the antidote to the multitude of NPC SUV/CUVs that take up most of our roadways in 2024. It is legit quick, handles great, very comfortable, has *just* enough room for a family of 4, fits plenty of stuff w/the seats down, unique and has returned 29mpg avg in my 3 years of ownership thus far. I've driven it on 1000mi road trips, backroad runs, grocery getting... it really has no obvious flaws and it's my fav daily driver ever and I've owned a lot of cars. I have an FK8 as well, but it's my track and "special" car which is where it's better suited honestly. I've also owned an MK6 Golf R and I'd take the Mini over that for it's character alone *as a daily*, which is where I think this car shines.

  • The F series Minis are reliable. The Clubman has been around since 2016 and mechanical wise has been the same. The only changes made are some exterior bits and tech features. Before I took a leap on buying the All4 S model, I did research and browsed thru a lot of forums from Clubman owners stating how reliable their Clubmans have been. Of course you have to be on top of the maintenance since this is a BMW under the skin. Mind you, jumping from a Toyota to the Mini brand is a huge leap of faith. But the test drive alone sealed the deal. Like what Jack said, this car has character and makes you smile. And since this is considered a wagon, it’s a huge plus for me because I’m a hot hatch/wagon sort of person. In the seas of SUVs and CUVs, the Clubman stands out and I know design wise it’s subjective but I find the design of this car really attractive.

  • As a current Mini owner, I'm surprised at the relative lack of low speed maneuverability of the car considering its size. I have a 3 door Cooper, and it has a bigger turning circle than a Subaru Crosstrek or a Kia Forte. The Clubman is even worse.

  • Love my 2016 Mini Cooper S Carbon Edition. I take my mini on some of the best twisty canyon roads in the country (Decker Canyon Rd, Yerba Buena, Little Sycamore Canyon, Mulholland) and it is a blast, have Michelin Pilot 4s w/stock suspension, JCW tuner kit & Carbon exhaust from the factory. I’m sure a Golf R, Civic Type R are better cars all around, yes!! I paid $23,000 in 2019 used with 36,000 miles. Having said that I would highly recommend getting a used one as the prices plummet! If buying new I’d go for the Civic:)

  • Not as refined, but a well maintained R56 w/ the N18 engine is one of the best fun:cost ratios out there and makes a great platform for performance mods. This car gets the better engine and nicer interior, but it's also $$$$. You can get a good R56 for sub $10K.

  • I own a 2022 JCW Clubman and to be honest…it’s just a lot of fun. It rips mountain roads great and makes a nice sound. I don’t like the iDrive at all, very clumsy to use. Pain to use two phones with CarPlay (it sort of guesses which connect). Turbo lag can be super obvious. It is either all-go or no-go. But at the end of the day, brings a smile every time. Great daily along side my 991.2.

  • I've always liked the Clubman design with its double rear doors. Not the most practical thing, but it looks cool to me. I test drove a Mini several years ago when I was in the market for a new car, but aside from the fact I didn't love it, it was just kind of pricey compared to some of its competitors, which I was more interested in anyway. Still, I'm glad I got to drive one to check it out.

    • @japanwatchconnection I dunno, F56 is a pretty good car. The upcoming F66 looks like it should continue to be good since it is just an update. They have moved away from the retro chic of the R50/53 though, is that what has turned you off?

  • Just FYI this are all gone, you can't order them anymore. the clubman has officialy ceased production a few months ago. The same could be said for every other current gen mini i've driven them all and my favourite was the 3 door JCW manual, absolutely brilliant little car

  • I loved my R53 until the warranty ran out. Impressively comfortable for me, being 183cm/130kg. BMW engineering and expectations with a lower build quality and high maintenance. Maybe the BEVs will actually make them reliable enough to own long term?

  • This type of vehicle reminds me of the VW Alltrack. Never understood why the US market hates wagons so much as they tend to keep most of the sporty driving of a sedan with more practicality than most small/medium SUV’s. Would love a gold R wagon or GLI Wagon with the EA888

  • I'm a huge Mini fan and supporter but not a fan of Clubman at all. Give me a JCW Countryman over this all day. I absolutely love my 2dr hardtop S but wish I did have a JCW. There are several great British YT comparison videos with this and Countryman vs Golf R and similar and a lot preferred the Mini in a lot of ways. Great review and wish you would get your hands on other JCW variants and give them a go.

  • PLEASE review the 2021 Mini JCW GP aka Mini GP3. It has the exact same B48 engine as this but the kicker is that it's 2800 pounds and fwd only. It also has the 8speed Aisin with more agressive tuning than the Clubman has. Also the GP3 has a really good boost by gear system so the launches are great for a fwd.
