    • While JJ tended to buffoon, I did love the characters especially James. In spite of his lack of education and financial stability, he always was a strong patriarch who mad a way and protected his family in a dangerous environment. Florida always showed him respect, even though he wasn’t balling out. She checked him when needed, but it wasn’t malicious and spiteful, like many modern women tend to do.

  • This is not Good Times. Good Times is our story, the true story of poor Black Americans living in a world that doesn’t think you deserve the right to darken their doorstep or better yourself in anyway. Good Times has stood the test of time, because it is an example that, in the worst, most tragic moments, you can survive with family and faith. I’ll say it again, it’s OUR story, one of, our realest realities. You can’t: cut, paste, and copy that onto a new project and disrespect the original.

  • Well, you make a show of this quality because of the audience. The current audience lacks the knowledge of so-called black people in this country, so what does Netflix do to make it a mockery? No historical frame or content. I wonder, if a show about the holocaust was made into a comedy, what would the response be? The so-called black experience in Amerikkka is a spectacle for others to enjoy.

    • Nope. Netflix just didn't want to green light quality projects, so instead they green lit this garbage. Seriously, so much fight goes into getting black shows green lit because Hollywood doesn't want us being represented respectfully. Black creatives really have to fight to be able to get their shows aired, and they also face issues with the execs wanting to change the direction in favour of making the show more disrespecful and full of stereotypes. Shows like Girlfriends and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air almost didn't get green lit because the execs didn't think it was 'realistic' to show rich, bougie black people.

  • John Amos was so gracious with his answer about how he thought this animated version would do. I think he knows like we all do that this hot garbage is going to fail miserably but he’s so big hearted he won’t say it that way. The big question is: who is this show made for? It’s clearly not for black people and I can tell that white people wont feel welcomed watching it either. What were the writers trying to prove by making this hot mess?

  • The messages and the level of consciousness surrounding black life and issues that the original show created, requires a vehicle that best presents the seriousness and significance of its themes. A cartoon falls short of this requirement. In my opinion, it would be like having a dinner celebration to honor the beloved matriarch/patriarch of the family and seating them at the kid's table. Not only do they deserve better, but we could do better.
