Remember they needed a pack of borzoi to actually take down wolves, only thing borzoi hounds have over wolves is speed, by itself that doesn't help, but in a whole pack of dogs against wolf, it can mean a lot.

  • Honestly, think about it from the Wolf’s perspective. It would be like if you saw a grotesquely stretched out human with a long face and limbs who kind of sounds like a warbled human, and who’s point of creation was specifically to kill you. Freaky.

We've had her since 2016 she's spoiled rotten but sometimes when she sleeps she'll tuck her legs up and do this god awful squealing whine. I'll pat her her to wake her up and no matter how gentle I am she'll startle awake and squall like I hit her. • There are many dogs that are in fact stronger than wolves. The wolves are not that strong, the thing is that they attack in a pack and that makes them so good at hunting. A human against a single unarmed wolf has a 55% chance of winning. Even so, it still seems very funny to know that among all those dogs, this is one of them.

    • @@dominik8409 Of course it depends of the breed of the dog and the breed of the wolf. These bag dogs couldn't take on a gray wolf. But there are several breeds that could end up with one. And with a human, if it's 1v1, it wouldn't be that hard, with any weapon much easier. Of course you shouldn't attack a wolf Either for their safety, as a noble species in danger. And for yours, wolves do not usually attack humans, because they are afraid of us because of the constant killing of the past. The only wolves that attack humans are the ones with rabies. If one sees you, it will run away, but if you attack it, it will call its pack and... I don't have to comment further. In addition, they are very necessary for the environment, if they disappear the forest disappears with them.

    • May I ask where you got your info from? This is a highly debated question in the web and I'd for once like to hear some actual arguments. Some people say LGDs are dead meat when 1v1 in a fight with a wolf, others say that Ovarchkas should be stronger for that they are bigger in mass and were bred to protect livestock. Others then argue that wolves have better muscle density and skills in fighting and hunting and thus must have an advantage. It'd be interesting to see actual footage or learn from experience, too. And see a Borzoi in action, or a Wolfhound. I'd like to know more about how they hunted - or if the hunter took the shot. I cant imagine a Borzoi killing a wolf to be honest. I could only imagine it if the Borzoi were fast enough to get at the Wolfs neck before it attacks. Ive actually found footage here on YT were two LGDs took down a wolf. Im not sure about it yet though. And btw, all of this isnt supposed to sound mean- im just nerding out.

  • I had two Borzois when I was younger. Sweetest dogs I ever had. The male was so tall, I'm 5'10" and when I would come home, he would stand on his hind legs and put his front paws on my shoulders and I'd be looking up at him. The female would chase me arround and use her front paws to trip me as I ran.

    • That would be funny but would never work genetically. For some reason our DNA just doesn't work like that. We all end up looking relatively normal no matter who the parents were(aside form the actual genetic mutations), and wove shredding outside if their usual pool, and then those new species breeding with other new species leads to the domesticated dog breeds. The problem stems form the fact that humans are all pure homo sapiens, and dogs are indeed from the canis family, but it's more broad than that

  • Borzoi actually means "sighthound" in Russian! As a native speaker, I was very surprised to find out that the name of the breed is so different. In Russian we call it Русская Псовая Борзая (Russkaya Psovaya Borzaya) - that's the full name of the breed, but many people say РПБ (or RPB) instead. So the direct translation would be "Russian Sighthound". The more you know :з

    • Also, in the modern days (in Russia) many people still use these dogs for hunting. But I've never heard of one taking down a wolf. They generally bring back rabbits and other small forest animals. And sometimes cats which is sad.
