Finishing The "Slavic Razor" forged by MAN AT ARMS
Huge thanks to Matt and Ilya for this collaboration. Watch how they forged this awesome blade here:

While handling this blade I did my best to stick to the straight razor theme Matt and Ilya had in mind.
Since the damascus is already so rich in details and also because of the integral bolster I decided not to make a segmented handle construction like I usually do for my knives.
Instead I focused my effort on the tang, filing a pattern and laminating the olive wood with a black and a solid brass liner to match the pins colors and materials.
Overall I'm very pleased with how sleek the handle came out and I think it goes well with the blade!
Index of operation and materials:
1:10 Marking layout lines for the pin holes
1:25 Center punching pin holes
1:34 Drilling 4mm pin holes
2:09 Tang was hard near the bolster, had to soften it with heat protecting the bolster with a wet rag
2:32 Temper colors should show where the steel is now soft
2:39 One spot was still hard had to drill with a sharpened stone bit
2:49 Layout color for the filework marks
2:60 To make the filework I used a wide range of files
3:47 But also a die grinder to help smooth some curves
4:30 And also a dremel with a cut off disc to make finer detalis
Watch how I made another filework design without using files here:

6:20 WOOD STABILIZING process explained in his video:
• Stabilizing Wood With ...
8:20 Brass stock 1.5mm thick
8:40 Laminating handle materias with quick epoxy resin
9:40 Had to shape the scales surface against the bolster to fit the bolster curve
10:00 MOSAIC PINS process explained in his video:
• Experimenting With Mos...
11:02 Match drilling pin holes in the scales
11:52 Glueing handle with 90min epoxy resin, all surfaces de-greased off-camera
13:18 Rough shaping with 2x72 belt grinder
13:53 Hand sanding up to the filework by hand to avoid overshooting
14:20 Boiled linseed oil as finish
14:45 Sharpening with a very high grit belt on the slac of the 2x72
Thanks a lot for watching, I hope you liked the video!

Très jolie! C'est ce que l'on appelle une lame "Damas"?
Black Beard Projects you were supposed to shave with that
I wish you would have had some audio about why you did all that stuff to the wood and why it's beneficial for making handles. 🤔
When you hit that hard steel you can't drill it Try masonry bit cuts right though
He giggled like an excited kid when he pulled that blade out. :)
Who wouldnt honestly?
"hooooo new toy!"
Yeah I would have liked a full reaction for that.
I would laugh like a cartoon villain that finally won
the laugh of a crazy man tickled pink
Awesome! Thanks so much for working with us! It was a blast! lets do it again sometime real soon! You have to show us that razor in action sometime soon though! Go cut something!
Baltimore knife and sword we love you and miss you sooooooo much x((((((((((((((((((((((((((((
I always thought about your work guys, you have great experience and you're Masters and why you don't make KZhead channel. Now I'm subscribed. Good luck and waiting the new videos from you. @Black Beard Projects awesome work!
Bu işçilik gerçekten ustaca onu bana hediye edermisin?
Great job between the 2 channels and would love to see the two do something else in the future and with other channels also
Wow this is great! Actually you should also collaborate with them at Men at Arms - if that is (still?) possible. The handles often seemed the weakest parts of their otherwise awesome builds and you could really add to that!
When you were working on the sides of the knife I was wondering what you were doing! Towards the end of the video my jaw dropped. Beautiful.
this was actually way more enjoyable to watch than the knife build. no background music, thank you!
I love how you went the extra mile to add more beauty and artistry and really complete this blade, rather than just finish it
That whole “knife”, almost a short sword is so badass. Love the design, love the Damascus, love the optical illusion of the blade edge where it looks like it might be serrated kind of but isn’t. the scales and file work on the handle was amazing, I would buy and use that knife constantly. Just awesome
Brilliant. The idea with the pattern on the edge of the handle is outstanding. Love it! 👍🏻👍🏻
It's always so cool to watch blacksmiths and crafters at work. So Matt and Ilya recommended hitting you up for the finish. Totally worth it. Can't wait to see what else you do.
You never cease to amaze me. Matt and Ilya gave you something nice to work with and you made it sing. True artistry. :)
My goodness! I've never seen another blade that I wanted more than i want this one. that monster is fantastic! I really love how the file work on the tang came out.
Really liked the detail he put in the handle letting the metal curves define the wood an it’s shapes on the handle overall I give it 10/10
This thing just kept getting better and better from start to finish.
Beautiful work. I've enjoyed this collab a lot. The rippled thorny vine design you did in the handle goes perfectly with the ladder pattern they did in the blade. What an incredible work of art.
That is an absolutely stunning piece!! I'm sure I'm not alone when I say, I wish I could buy one! Master craftsmen at their finest! I'm am in LOVE with that damascus, and your choice of olive wood for the handle was perfect. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Guys, your collaboration and craftsmanship are absolutely outstanding and beautiful!! That’s in a level of renaissance weaponry. Thanks.
Prime example of being able to envision your creation. FANTASTIC! Superbly beautiful!
I love how pretty much the entire community sticks up for TW and supports them. Love it. Also: amazing work on the handle. It looks really cool.
I spent half this vid going wtf...then the other half going "oh, that's beautiful" Also....push blocks, man. You are the softest, squishiest part of the shop
I'd give you a thousand likes for this build!!! Ive never seen a more beautifully designed and built piece!!!
I think this is one of the best finishes in the world. Especially the way you filed the metal handle at the beginning to get those phenomenal curves😍.
The pattern you made on the edge of the handle is awesome 👏🏾
Superb work before and after you got the blade. That inlay and grinding of the tang was AWESOME!
Matt and Ilya are awesome. Great to see how you finished this.
That handle's pretty as they come! I fully enjoyed watching you make that just as much as I watched them forge the blade. Thanks very much!
Really liked the file work you done on the tang, and adding the color epoxy really made it stand out. Well done!
I'm a bit sad he didn't re-etched it though.
I really like the way the file work stood out with the resin. Don't think I've seen that done before.
Wow wow wow, what amazing craftsmanship from both That Works and Blackbeard. You all are absolutely amazing!
That handle is super badass.
Gorgeous handles, absolutely awesome craftsmanship! Thanks for sharing, God bless
Gorgeous work!! Great collaboration, glad I found this channel!
loved the detail on the tang, it's things like that that turn a good looking knife into a amazing looking knife
awesome collaboration with Ilya and Matt
That is fine detail work. You aught to be very proud of that.
I love that the boys from MAN AT ARMS hardened the handle so much that you had to draw back the temper. Lol!!!
I was wondering if that ruined the durability.... especially over the long term/ could have been generations of use...
I caught that as well, I guess the don't make Damascus drill bits.
Probably one of my favorites because of the practicalities but also because of the combined superb craftsmanship.
Out of all the Bladed instruments I've ever seen, this is the one id like to own the most.
I couldn't figure out what the hell you were doing but, at the end, when it all came together I was absolutely blown away. Beautiful work!!!
gee it feels like not that long ago you had only like 13k subs...now you're collaborating with man at arms!!
Prettiest handle I've ever seen crafted! I kept asking myself, "Where is he going with this?!?!" Now I see!!! Amazing work.
That looks great. You are an incredible craftsman.
Amazing craftsmanship on all accounts. You've made a few handles before lol, incredible work.
I dont know how to feel about bots that are two-thirds epoxy.
@@96dragonhunter sometimes simple is sometimes awesome. And let's face it I doubt that knife will do much more then sit on a shelf. All tho I'd love to see a vid of him shaving with it
One of my favorite builds ever
It’s like that speed painting artist and your jaw drops when he flips the canvas and you’re left with stunning amazement!!!!
Золотые руки. Мастер от Бога.
мастер хороший, только из такого красивого клинка сделал кухонный ножичек.
Next up a hardened Leather over the back shoulder sheath!!! Like the one from Book of Eli. Or something. OUTSTANDING build good Sir!!
Great workmanship from all involved, real artistry. A beautiful piece.
Came over because of the gentleman over at That Works. Subscribed for life.
Илья с Мэтом от души постарались.
Этот тож выпендрился по полной.
very nice finish, it does the razor honor.
Stef Henrion what?
@@scotthc947 i don't understand the what ? the blade Matt and Ilya made was intended as a giant razor
Stef Henrion my apologies, I misread your comment
Holy shit. The amount of patience you must have to do all that. Standing there for hours. For my craft I can sit down and often watch something while I do it.
What you did to that handle was sheer artistry.
bbp: *make videos* neighbour: " what a nice day to drill a wall"
Castsmith upu.. end I
That was quick I think they make the best blades and swords than ANYONE on youtube
Slavic squats and cheeki breeki, cold kompot with cheebureeki, always moving, never down, life is good with Slavs around!!
Wow! Beautiful blade to be given an equally beautiful handle. Lovely work and a joy to watch it all come together so perfectly.
love the packaging job, "we send glove so you not cut fingers off"
One word: thatthingisbadass Cheers
Rick Palechuk um?😂
칼은 이분들이 재일 잘 만드는 것 같아요. 정말 존경스럽습니다. 마지막 칼날 세우는 건 보통인데 칼의 전체적인 완성도는 정말 훌륭한것 같습니다.
Super nice engraving on the handle. I wasn’t quite sure what you were doing but you knew! Beautiful work! Love it!
That noise is driving me nuts.
Right? I almost turned the video off a couple times.
Amen. It was driving me nuts !
That NOISE!! Sounded like an out of tune cello or violin. Awesome work on the handle though.
You are aware that you can just mute the video, there is absolutely nothing to hear except for his announcement anyway
it was his phone i think ;p
good god man, your fingers were like a quarter inch from that bandsaw blade. push-stick, bro. they are a lot cheaper than fingers.
Cringe worthy
Wouldn't be a good slavic blade without that bit of crazy.
SAME FUCKING THOUGHTS LOL............ then in my head i heard my buddy say "you can't be a pussy all your life" when i told him im scared of using my table saw lol
@@imhigh0013 my eyes were wide as fuck lol
I learned the hard way ...got a nice scar on my right ring finger
I really like that beefy knife! The handle and tang art design is really nice too.
A blade of such epic quality deserves a handle that is as epic as the blade... and i've seen dozens of videos of poorly made handles that i, for a minute feared the worst.. but the level of craftmanship portrayed in even the smallest steps of crafting this handle is simply perplexing. Amazing job!

That cactus juice got me thinking about Sokka.
It's the quenchiest!
Love the handle filling, it turned out wonderful.
Wow! That's all IK can think of. Your combined efforts made a truly beautiful work of art. I can't wait to see what this year brings in the world of forging, but I'll always come back to see artists at work. Thanks for everyone involved for being so awesome. I love y'all so much for making my life more enjoyable every day so keep it up. I know you'll continue to impress us.
What is that noise on THE background? Your 3D printer?

What an awesome rabbit hole I fell down to find this video. I started out at Shadiversity where he mentioned that the Baltimore Knife and Sword guys had a new channel at That Works, which led me through the blade making and over here to find this. Great video, definitely subscribing!
Great job!!! Those guys At that works are very talented and fun to watch! I'm glad you were able to do a collaboration with them
"Slavic Razor" I like the name. I like that its damascus steel. I dont remember slavs using these anywhere, but slavic culture is so big and differs from place to place. The steel seem very soft. What steel is it? You file in to it like if it was wood.
The reason the steel is soft is because they don’t harden the tang. Leaving the tang soft helps absorb shock fro hitting things and believe it or not adds durability because it’s not brittle. That’s why he had to hear the top in order to get the drill bit through it because the top of the tang got heat treated a little and it was very hard.
👍
the guys at That Works sent me here, and i have no regrets. Awesome work, that knife is beautiful.
Beautiful work by both yourself and the guys at baltimore knife and sword. your grip compliments their pattern REALLY nicely.
8:43 we all finna ignore the zombie hoard e background
???
Never seen that kind of wood treatment. What the heck was that?
I think he got all the moisture out of the wood, and replaced it with resin. like wood micarta I guess? not sure.
@@Cement_Smoothie Pretty sure that's exactly what he did. Bake the wood to make sure it's dry, then use resin to fill in any voids in the wood and add integrity.
Awesome work man. The projects I've watched on your channel are all really well done. The skills and precision you put into your work is great.
This is just pure joy to watch this legendary item. So much love, effort, and respect to the craft. Amazing!
*It is cool*
That anoying phone messages!
His 3D printer, most likely.
It was his neighbour.
Awesome collaboration! That turned out beautifully!
Love the collaboration! Great piece guys!
Hard to explain how bad I NEED this thing.....for stuff and reasons
Yep, me too ... same stuff and reasons ... plus things, purposes and other things!
That might convince me to shave my beard... nah, just kidding beards rule!
Probably the most beautiful and coolest blade I’ve ever seen
This thing is wicked cool.Congrats to all of you, great work.
Поставьте много лайков,пусть думают что я что то умное написал.
i really wish you would explain what you are doing so normies like me could understand. i have no idea what process you did to the wood
Basically he just pressure treated it with the cactus stuff, then heat treated that. The heat would have brought the natural oils to the surface to be scrapped off. That handle will last until that blade dies. The process makes the wood very hard wearing.
@@ceasarspartacus see this kind of knowledge would have made the video a lot better (although it is already very good as it is).
Dried them in the little kiln, stored in the bag to prevent them from absorbing moisture from the air until he was ready to stabilize them with cactus juice resin. Got the resin, placed the wood in a container, filled the container with cactus juice resin, then placed in a vacuum chamber. Vacuum pulled out air, allowing the stabilizing resin to penetrate deeply into the wood. Removed the wood from chamber and resin, wrapped in foil and placed back in kiln, as you have to heat cactus juice to get it to cure fully.
@@gorbashin see, I was just guessing. I knew it was to stabilize the wood, but I figured it was to displace the natural moisture, and a heat treat harden it to prevent splitting later on. Thank you for the clarification
@@gorbashin thanks mate!
Wow that was an amazing finishing touch for this blade.
Wow! I wasn't sure where you were going filling the handle edge with epoxy after doing all that file work, but when the pattern appeared I was amazed at what it turned into! Sublime craftsmanship and artistic vision.
drilled through heat-treated steel, that drill bit had a bad time
i think the same
Chuck Norris shaving equipment
i like how he goes through an elaborate process to put a finish on the wood, and then sands it off
That’s the most beautiful blade I’ve ever seen made on KZhead, Wow! The back of the handle is just sick, everything about it is just beautiful! Great work man!!! I would be proud to own a blade like that.
Next step:give razor to japanese boy with sharping stones)
final step: post the knife to me
Then give it to Life of Boris for a cooking video.

Oh Blyat!
That handle is amazing. filling the brass tube with black epoxy is a killer.
that background noise was annnoying af whatever it was but great collab
It was a either a violin or a cat being strangled.... >.>
I liked that breezy windy noise.
I thought that sound made the craftsman look like a robot. I was getting into it.
