The Iberian Experience in Tours and Tournaments - Alfonso the Battler of Aragon - Crusader Kings 3

Aragon as a kingdom is most famous for its connection to Castile I'd say, but in Crusader Kings 3, we can take all sorts of directions for the humble mountain kingdom. Alfonso the Battler is a historically important figure in Aragon's early history for his work in pushing the Andalusians back south.
In Tours and Tournaments, CK3's Iberian experience has only improved, and in this video, I've got some cool things going on both with some new editing tricks, and some foreign language stuff. Let me know what you think of both.

  • I loved the Spanish. As a native, there are a few conjugations that can be improved, but I freaking loved it. Cheers!

  • Nice to see you're back on CK3 storytelling. As a spaniard I was quite surprised by that little segment in the mother tongue XD. You did quite well all things considered, spanish (and in this case Castilian spanish) ain't easy on english speakers, and still, pronounciations were quite impressive on many areas. Hope you keep at it, languages are great and being shy about mispronouncing stuff only gets in the way of greater leaning.

  • Alfonso I "el Batallador" is a fascinating historical figure. Being king of both Aragón and Pamplona (Navarra) he was married to Queen Urraca of Castilla, León and Galicia. It was agreed that, if they ever had any children, all the kingdoms owned by the parents would be passed onto the child. But It never came to pass, as they didn't have any (Alfonso even fought wars against his wife). An heir of both monarchs could have produced an interesting early unification of the christian kingdoms in Iberia, but It never took place and Alfonso died childless. What he is also famous for, is that he appointed the knights Templars, the knights Hospitaller and the knights of the Holy Sepulchre as heirs to inherit his whole kingdom (yes the military orders of the Holy Land inheriting entire kingdoms). At his death, however, the nobles of the realm didn't accept his will, and instead, put Alfonso's younger brother, Ramiro, who was the bishop of Roda at the time, as king. As an aragonese myself It was a joy to watch this video! Feel free to correct or add anything you see fit on this comment (I am no historian, and I merely enjoy learning some history). Btw, you did quite well with the monologue! It was perfectly understandable congrats! Edit: some grammar and readjusting the order of the text itself. Cool personal historical fact: The military orders knew about the will of the deceased king Alfonso, and in exchange for not reclaiming their inheritance, the received several churches and land throughout the kingdom (mostly Calatayud, which you can conquer on the map, and some land in Barcelona which i do not know of). What is more curious is, that to this day, one of the churches given to the orders is in my grandmother's hometown, and (although It is not the same structure) It can be visited and it is in use to this day. The church itself is named Real Basílica-Colegiata del Santo Sepulcro and it is located in Calatayud.

As a native Spanish speaker, I would suggest that you proofread your dialogues before making your script, I would offer that myself for free if you wish :) I'm studying translation and I love ck3 so it would be my pleasure, and also if you need help with Spanish in case you're learning it I'm happy to help!

  • As a spanish speaker, I’m impressed you actually did a speech in spanish, though it is different from spanish in the Americas (those who live in Spain use words like estáis but in the Americas most don’t, as well as using “th” in words like Corazón to make it “corathon” which sounds so weird to me lol). I believe some South American countries use the “th” sound more. But Mexicans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, etc. do not

    • @@napoleonbuonaparte8975 Yes, people do. I’ve also heard it in other spanish music before. It’s not common, but it is said. I’ve taken advanced spanish courses where we listen to people on the radio or what have you, and I’ve heard it there. Look it up. Again, hispanic groups such as those in Central America and the Carribean do not say it that way.

    • @@sirnetflix7162 I'm from south America and never heard someone talking like that. I also don't know any Spaniard that talks like that. The only thing that resembles what you said is people pronuoncing the Spanish Z like an S in Latin America.

    • As a spaniard from Aragón this is very curious, as we look at this the other way around. We say corazón with a "th" sound (as in thousand) to it, which, to us spaniards, is the used pronunciation for the letter Z (except for the people in the Canary Islands, which i've heard it said either Z ("th") or S).

  • It be nice if you took aragon to Itally and make it the renewed western roman empire. Aragon, historically, had some of those roman ambitions, with it's strong grib on the mediteranian with the coast it has and those many islands, there was quite a desire to have an Aragonese mare nostrum. It be great though, while I am at it, if you didn't go for roman title proper, by attaking the byzantines, since we see that too often. As such, if you are going to take my suggestion then please constrain yourself to the western roman empire.

    @connortheandroidsentbycybe7740@connortheandroidsentbycybe774011 ай бұрын
    • Probably not, since Alfonso the Battler was Aragonese, and spoke Aragonese, which is a West Iberian language (like Castilian) while Catalan is an Occitano-Romance language. The real reason of course is that the closest equivalent to Aragonese I can speak is Spanish LUL (to be fair, it is argued whether Aragonese is West Iberian or Occitano-Romance, so jury's out, still stands that I know neither Catalan nor Aragonese)
