I see a lot of guys trying to dry out the surface before pouring concrete...thats not nesessary, the ground beeing to dry is much more negative then it beeing wet. Of course there should not be standing water.
When I first saw the title "Bracing a rock", I thought "What's so wonderful about bracing a rock?" Little did I know. Andrew, I hugely enjoyed how you deployed tools and machines. I am impressed.
Well i had the same thought as i was watching the first video of Andrew that was about replacing a culvert pipe. XD
That opening shot from the drone closing in on Andrew’s lair instantly tells us that this video is going to be something special, that Andrew is about to roll out the full panoply of his talents. He does not disappoint!
Think of the effort it takes to do all this work by yourself. Then imagine you are at the same time thinking of what camera angle works for the shot and then prior to actually doing the work you set up the camera. Andrew, you sir are a wizard!
Lance Anderson. It’s really not that much of a thought process. He has all the machinery he needs to make the work 100X easier on himself.... the knowledge and execution of the work being done is second nature to him anyway, and on top of that he gets a shit load of money from Add revenue for making such videos. Two additional suggestions 1. Remove the tree that grows at the top - the roots will enlarge every crack in the rock. 2. Add a horizontal beam between the supports - if the supports tilt sideways, the concrete at the bottom will simply tear.
Dear owca. 👍👌👏 Very good suggestions, you are absolutely right! I simply cannot believe why I haven't thought of that. In addition to your advices: Mr. Camarata should fill up the cracks after removing the tree and roots. Because otherwise water will go into the crack and in wintertime that water will freeze. The hydraulic power of the ice will easily widen the cracks (because ice has much more volume than water). Best regards, luck and health.
Did you see the size of those beams? Those beams could crush that whole rock.
@@Engineer9736 No, owca is right! If the rock slides sideways the beams will simply slide with it. That's a fact and definitely no guess! You can see this at every shelf without diagonal support (or like a ladder without spokes). Two smaller horizontal beams welded in (or even better = two diagonal ones) would stabilize this already well done construction considerably. Best regards luck health and wisdom.
Hey, thanks again. I ask out of ignorance, someone once told me to wet cement before putting new concrete against it. Supposedly the old would rob the water from the new. I notice you do not do that, I don’t recall in any of your videos having seen you do that. Do you have any concerns? Have you heard this before? I mean obviously your concerns, if any, must be minimal. Thank you.
Dear @@chapc You wet stone walls and wall plaster before putting mortar/plaster respectively another layer of plaster/mortar on it. If the wall or the plaster is older, it's necessary to use a special and very thin primer. Usually hardened concrete does not suck water because the capillaries are much more tight. To bind/connect new to old concrete it is useful to roughen the old surface. A very special primer should also be used. This chemical product kind of opens the pores. Additionally you can drill holes into the old concrete and stick pieces of steel rods (less in diameter than the holes) into the holes. Best regards, luck, health and wisdom.
If I understood the figures that Andrew and the engineer came up with, it seems that his design is 6-7 times stronger than it actually needed to be. So, if anyone needs a prop to protect their tornado-safe steel castle from a 100-ton rock putting a dent in it, now you know who to call... 😉
You don’t know how is the formation of the rock what its resting and lots of other unknown issue. The cost of what he did compare to saving was negligible however it was worth it.

the unyielding enthusiasm of a puppy + BLISS
You don't take any shortcuts. You are not professional only Andrew but also a perfectionist. Job well done. Love it.
"That's about the right angle, too. Heh, that's the angle it's gonna be, I ain't changing it." Perfect.
That was the best 😆😆😆😆😆
It was right on the slip plane, and Camarata braced it.
Props for wearing the respirator when working with concrete mix!
Just never have seen everything, until watching another Andrew video. And still, have more to see. Amazing man.
hey Andrew, I am french and I have watched most of your vidéos from home in Paris France. Let me tell you that I am each time more impressed by your ability to do alone, except your canine assistant, most type of works in a clever way, to maintain your construction equipment, and to find enough time to make and edit nice vidéos like a pro. do you plan to eat or sleep sometime ? not talking about anything else. Is it possible to see your place and castle on google earth and can you give your GPS coordinates. Again congratulations Andrew.
Levi and Cody performed the "lab tests" :)

That chain saw works surprisingly well on the rock with that specialized chain. Nice!
Probably the same one he used to fix the pickup dashboard.
