Inspired by Roy Underhill of "The Woodwright's Shop" fame on PBS TV out of North Carolina, I show how I built a wooden toy unicycle with a little guy on it that rides on a tightrope. Mentioned in Season 28, episode 9 the "little guy", as called by Roy, has been a project that I have thought about making for quite a while.
Materials: Walnut for the body, Oak for the legs, Maple for the top hat
The little guy is approximately 10" tall, wheel is approximately 3" diameter
screws: #6 x 3/4" round headed
That is so cute! I used to watch Roy's show back in the 80's, so fun!
What a great toy from the past. I'm adding this to my to-do list.
Carinissimo !!! E come sa anche pedalare in retromarcia !!! Complimenti !!!
I don't always watch Roy, but when I do, something cool always seems to be coming out of my shop . My grandson is gonna love it.❤

That's way way cool👍🏽 I thought about making a balancing man with these metal bearings I have out of metal? I like to weld thing's up that have moving parts and let people interact with my art sculptures if people want to call it that. I usually make my stuff out of scrap metal.
I would love to see your creation. Good luck
@@2muchsawdust yes I need to get a better video camera to record making stuff, with my phone all I would be able to do is record finished product of maybe 4 to 5 minutes? With a go pro I could record longer video's. You are right I do need to make video's of my art work I made from welding. I have been saving a lot o odds and ends metal that I'm going to make little art project's. Might as well start now Christmas is in a few month's. I'll have something to give away.
Amazing

Back in the 1950s the barber shop I went to in Detroit had a little guy on a bike that would go back and forth by itself on a line clear across the shop. I don't know if it had a motor or if the line was raised and lowered some way.
I’ve seen them on string tied tied to the door, so every time the door opened and closed the little bike goes back and forth.
Hmm. If you were to attach that one end of the string to a whiligig wheel, then the wind would cause it to move the string up and down. Just a thought.
Your activity is an admirable and joyful voiage to chilhood , congratulation
Muito bom parabéns nota 10000000❤❤❤❤❤❤

Esses bonecos e da hora
👍👍👍
Kamala and Linda Burney, Lydia would almost make a threeway first place, but it'd be close, photo finish.
Muito legal gostei
Que legal
Good work that's worth watching and sharing Please Can u explain the mathematical formula u made for leg and thigh cuz it's not clear in thé vidéo. Thanks
All you need to know is the distance from the hip pivot point to the pedal at its lowest rotation point. Once you have that distance you make the lower and upper leg lengths appropriately. The total length of the leg must be slightly longer than pedal to hip distance. Imagine riding a bicycle that’s too big for someone, or riding a bike that is too small. You either can’t reach the pedals with your feet or your knee hit the handlebars. Hope this helps.
Hi!!!!
Are plans available?
I don’t have any plans on paper. As you see in the video I just made it up as I went along. I will give some rough measurements: 10-11” tall, 3” dia. Wheel.
😂😂😂 👏👏👏 💖💖💖...!

Onde conseguir o tutorial
The little guy is about 10 inches tall. The wheel diameter is 3 inches. Things like this I don’t measure everything, I just guess. Happy woodworking to you.
Tempelet?
I didn’t use a template. Hardly ever do unless I am making multiples.
you wasted all that time making the main wheel - it would have been simpler to use the lathe that you use to make the top hat .............. ???
You are probably right. I think if I make another, I’ll try and make the body on the lathe as well.
That didn’t take that long to file that wheel groove.
I filmed this for my middle school students. The fractions were trying to convey the length of the legs segments.
Good thing you're not God.........trial and error creationism???????????
Nice!
