I was implying my opinion to the younger generation, to those who it concerns. I’m not gunna go into deep detail, but as adults who have different jobs; and/or ways of life. I watch every new video Chris puts out, but I’m also making time away from my electronics (my smart phone) to apply what I’ve learned to my personal life in the great outdoors. Literally this week, my wife came home with the kids after school and heard my neighbour yelling for help. She'd rolled her side-by-side onto herself, and her leg was trapped. Fortunately, I have 2 Navy Cadet trained teenagers who knew better than to lift it off without a paramedic present. Long story short, she spent some time in the hospital, and she's back home now. With a phone on her at all times, now...😁💪🪓🇦🇺

Just bought a 462. Impressed with the starting. Second pull from cold. I didn't see where you show the brand of the splitter. I was impressed with the cycle times. My Northern Tool 30 ton cycle times are around 11 - 15 seconds. I've had it for about 11 years and may need to upgrade to increase production.

With almost 50 years of continuing education in a multitude of settings, I have never encountered an instructor with Chris's methodology. What you see on You Tube is a pin head of what he shares in person In The Wood Yard. He washes away what ever pressure one might put on themselves before arriving.

Logger Al Chris did ask me if I wanted to run the processor and I believe my answer was Hell No. After watching the video of you running the processor I have this image of a great pipe organist seated at the Wanamaker Pipe Organ in Philly. Your phlanges worked the controls like an organist playing Hallaluia from Handel's Messiah. Maybe when my thumb is not wrapped up to the size of a baseball bat, I will get the courage to give it a try. Sorry if you know the music and now you have an ear worm.

Chris helped a lot. He wore gloves that had Orange tips on the fingers. I watched his hands for cues. You definitely need to be in 2022 and not star gazing or looking for shiney objects.

Thank You. I am pretty sure that I will not have a channel. After fire fighting, I went back to college for a degree in Welding and Robitic Automation. A recession hit and the Web was the place to be. So I went back to college for another degree in Visual Communications and Computer Graphics. I was three classes away from graduation. and I was miserable. Sitting in front of a computer was the best job I never finished. I had a 4.03 GPA and I said all done. Pro ably the only thing in my life that I flat out quit. I would sooner stack firewood and play pick up sticks with kindling than videos.

We went shoe shopping and I picked up a pair of steel toed shoes with the factory installed. metatarsal guard. I tried on many different brands. Each brand had a different style steel toe box that will never stretch. My selection was based on how the toe box fit rather than looks. Vanity goes out the window when working with logs. For the ladies, .more manufacturers are making womens work boots. I recommend trying on in person.

It's a natural tendency to let the bar swing right after the cut. Don't let it swing behind your legs. The chain doesn't stop right away. The 462 is a beast. If your not strong get something smaller. If you start getting fatigued, put it down and take a break. Don't mess with these things.

Thinking of buying chainsaw boots as like you Chris and many other my foot is usually hold a log from time to time and one time the saw gotta way from me and giving I waking holding the throttle anymore it still went through the side of my boot just behind the steel in the toe and cut my foot about a 8th in deep still have a scare. 1st plan should be the best plan lol. Nice video. I have never run a 462C-M, but ran a buddies 461 and it was a nice saw but heavy. I think they made the 462 lighter, but then I don't try to keep up with the Stihl product line changes. Ann seems to be a down to earth lady with a common sense approach to work. GNI

This saw is the same weight as my MS 311 with the exception of having the 25" bar on it. 13.1 lbs. It does get a bit heavy after 30 min of use. Not ideal for limbing a tree. I break out the 16' 435 husky for that.

I am going to order a pair for my husband's OSHA not approved sandals. After my dad passed the church we attended asked if I could take over some of the church chores he did weekly. I agreed. One thing I did weekly was police the pews for a 1200 seating capacity church. Very quickly I introduced my shins to the metal legs of the flipped up kneelers. I went to a pro soccer store and I picked up a set of shin guards. Problem solved.

Good Morning Rick Best job ever. Here is an update on my thumb. Shortly after visiting Chris I had a meeting with the plastic surgeon/hand God at the level 1Trauma Center. This was the first appointment after surgery. The cast was removed, everything soaked and the Dr. said great news, your finger is pink. So the tissue was perfusing and I could feel him checking for neurological function. He said at this . moment in time I would not need more surgery. He showed me the x rays and the bone was crushed into 12 pieces. The three little weird holes that I could see were bone fragments. The doctor walked me to physical therapy that specializes in hand trauma. I walked into the clinic and a woman was standing at a table. I said hello and she just looked at me. I said HI and she said do you remember me? No, I am sorry I do not. She said I am Kim. She was going to school for her Masters Degree in Milwaukee. When it was time for clinicals, she went back home in Illinois. I always wondered what happened to her and how she was doing. She said I saw your name on the daily patient schedule and I pulled your file. So, out if the blue and a little Devine intervention I have someone who I admired her study habits, was now responsible for my rehab. I am ahead of schedule in recovery. I will not be doing hand splitting with a wedge and five pound sledge for a year, if ever again. They absolutely do not want my thumb hit by blunt force trauma. Fast forward a few weeks I meet the hand surgeon again. For sure no surgery. Again ahead of schedule. I have two removable hard casts to wear when tinkering with my twigs. I have coban to wear on indoor recess days. It is latex free protective wrap. At night I have a silicone gel one piece splint for sleeping. I have a routine of exercises to break up the scar tissue, calm the nerve firing by tactile stimulation by touching everything. I also have eleven exercises to increase the range if motion, that I do five times a day. I did mention that I had point tenderness to my first knuckle. Kim looked at the x rays and she said you also broke a bone in your knuckle. I go back July 5th for another look see and physical therapy. Did this hurt? Yes, when Bill was bandaging it hurt. He was the first Paramagic in the county west of me. We have trauma kits in each vehicle stocked with supplies. If you should get injured, go in and get it looked at. I saw three weird looking holes. Rub a little dirt on it and press on. When the Urgent Care team said we do not know how they are going to fix this, that got my attention. Being told you are on the board at the Trauma Center and two hand surgeons are waiting for you will get your attention real quick. If the thumb died, my big toe would have become my thumb.

I had a really bad broken left wrist 15 months back, getting better but will never be perfect. Oh, hope it goes okay on 5 July with the knuckle, you just have to be really careful whilst everything is still healing. Those things on her shoes would have been nice to have a while back. I was cutting some ironwood I had in a pile and my saw basically chucked a log back at me and it landed right on the top of my right foot. Man did it feel good. I have one of those little 5 ton electric splitters too but I only use it for busting down kindling. I keep it right in the body shop by the stove. I have my other splitter but that little 5 ton splitter works great if you want to break something down smaller at the stove or make kindling. Sounds like she needs to get herself a real splitter even just a homeowner grade one from a big box store. See them at estate sales all the time for $300-500 range if you didn't want to buy a new one

I've actually been considering buying one. Tractor Supply has one with a stand, so it;s up at waist height, not 16" off the ground. (which my lower back would greatly appreciate!) With all the free yard maple I've been getting, hand splitting is beginning to lose it's charm, lol.

I have The Earthquake. I ordered one for my nephew in NC. He picked it up at his local hardware store. We both like them. I have split so much wood that the wedge is no longer wedgie. I. need to weld on some filler material and grind down a new face. Bill put mine on a cart. I sit on a tool box and I can roll the cart from area to area. We put a hitch pin on the cart handle so it can be removed and out of the way.

I like being able to look at the grain and then try to get a clean split with only a few splinters. Sometimes it is hard to tell which way the rings will break. In that case the wood is like the fur on a dog. One way the fur lays flat. Another way the fur stands up. Same with wood. I put the flat laying grain up against the wedge and then split. Yes, this takes time and a lot of messing around but less splinters or a letter from Dewey, Cheatum and Howe ESQ.

Good Morning John The bibs wirk for me. They save on ripping up the abdomen and chest area. Now I know what to do for Chris for Christmas. Everyone gets a handmade item. This year if Friendly Firewood Flops, everyone will get a piece of wood in their stocking, except Chris. I will make him a pair of pink duct tape aspless chaps with a beaver fur lining for Wisconsin winters. Enjoy Florida.

If you put an Oregon LGX chain on it will cut a little bit faster the Oregon chains have a slightly narrower curf...I modified my old ms440 to accept a 325 pitch chain with a 9 pin sprocket in smaller wood it will out cut your 592 because of that narrow curf... And other modifications I have done to it

The wood you're spitting with the Eastern maid is 120% without a doubt in mulberry if you look close you can see the white sap oozing out of the grain where you made the cutscuts it does that after it sits for a little bit

She does fine work for someone that is digitally "challenged". Very enjoyable presentation, Good on you both. I know it's a haul for her to get up there,but i'd Like to see her visit once a season, So four times per year. After 16 years of mandatory wearing of met boots they are hard on your feet. I’d highly suggest using the ones she displayed that are aftermarket. The most comfortable ones I have used are from keen with the external guards.

I’ve been trying to find a 462 that was bought by homeowner and used for like an hour before their wife found out how much they spent and it goes on Facebook marketplace. A few have popped up but they are gone within like an hour , may have to pony up and pay full price .

Mulberry is very hard to split,I have a 27ton champion that does well. I've done 2 Mulberry trees in the last year with it but the Easton Made ultra was impressive splitting that Mulberry that had some nasty knots and the bad cuts with the angles are not a splitters friend. (Homeowner wood ).

I have a MS462c and a MS500i. I had the 462 first and I was looking for a bigger saw. The dealer told me the 500i would cut circles around the 462c.....Well they were wrong. If I was to do it again I would have just bought another 462c for less money. Don't get me wrong. The 500i is a great saw but not that much better than the 462c and in my opinion not worth the extra money. Great job Ann. Chris sure didn't go easy on you with that crappy wood! Dave

I like the 25" bar because I'm 6'2" and I can stand pretty much straight up when I'm bucking on the ground. It does wonders for saving my back. Dave

Ann Marie take care of that thumb and don't let them cut it off, it will heal in time. Put an ES light bar on the 462 and you will like it even more. The first 462 I ran I said this saw is more like a Husky than a Stihl, what the 572xp should have been. And with the improvements Stihl has made to it, a winner.

I was ready to buy a stihl but after homework on it I didn’t like that it was all self adjusting and sad thing is the dealer couldn’t explain the saw I had to watch Utube videos on it lol ended up getting a husky 460 rancher 24” bar and about a month later naught a husky t435 for a new trim saw it’s light and powerful and can handle it with one hand even with the arm issues I have … I have old John Deere , homelite , frontier , McCullough, stihl, probably ones I’m forgetting lol figure you. Can never have to many chainsaws 😂

Before Covid wewere the only people home in a five block radius. Now everyone is home. I cannot cut the grass without someone complaining that they cannot hear their business calls because my mower is running. Could I at least wait until after 5? Sure buttercup, anything for you. OK it goes without saying that you have alot of videos. I need to find the one that brought you to deciding to buy that awesome eastonmade firewood processor. I mean, it's a no brainer, don't get me wrong here, but you had to have gone back and forth on that decision with a 105k price tag (well, that's what it says on their website anyways). I don't know about you, but I can talk myself into, and out of, just about any purchase.

With the inherent danger of chainsaws, splitters, etc. we all deal with, it would be worth looking into carrying an IFAK (individual first aid kit.) I took a stop the bleed/TCCC class last year and have one on me 100% of the time now when cutting. A small investment and training could easily prevent a tragedy.

Two suggestions to add to a kit. If you are on blood thinners, I would recommend a product called BLEED STOP. It comes in a box with a few packets in each box. Available at local drug stores. I have used this on Bill a few times. Second item is carry womens heavy day femine pads. They make excellent bandages. When you are bandaging, no peeking. Leave the original pad in place and just add on. Something simple to remember is if the face is red, raise the head. If the face is pale raise the tail. If the face is blue, give 02.

I was implying my opinion to the younger generation, to those who it concerns. I’m not gunna go into deep detail, but as adults who have different jobs; and/or ways of life. Literally this week, my wife came home with the kids after school and heard my neighbour yelling for help. She'd rolled her side-by-side onto herself, and her leg was trapped. Fortunately, I have 2 Navy Cadet trained teenagers who knew better than to lift it off without a paramedic present. Long story short, she spent some time in the hospital, and she's back home now. With a phone on her at all times, now...😁💪🪓🇦🇺

Just bought a 462. Impressed with the starting. Second pull from cold. I didn't see where you show the brand of the splitter. I was impressed with the cycle times. My Northern Tool 30 ton cycle times are around 11 - 15 seconds. I've had it for about 11 years and may need to upgrade to increase production.
Yes the 462 is a great saw!! My Eastonmade Ultra is a fast splitter ...4 second cycle time, check out their web site!

With almost 50 years of continuing education in a multitude of settings, I have never encountered an instructor with Chris's methodology. What you see on You Tube is a pin head of what he shares in person In The Wood Yard. He washes away what ever pressure one might put on themselves before arriving.

Logger Al Chris did ask me if I wanted to run the processor and I believe my answer was Hell No. After watching the video of you running the processor I have this image of a great pipe organist seated at the Wanamaker Pipe Organ in Philly. Your phlanges worked the controls like an organist playing Hallaluia from Handel's Messiah. Maybe when my thumb is not wrapped up to the size of a baseball bat, I will get the courage to give it a try. Sorry if you know the music and now you have an ear worm.

Bill said that our vendor had a program that if you bought stihl 2 cycle oil they added time onto the warranty of the saw.
If you know you are going to purchase other bars and chains, do it now. It took two months to get mine. also, lock in a price now. Talk in the shops of a 30 percent price increase.

Thank You. I am pretty sure that I will not have a channel. After fire fighting, I went back to college for a degree in Welding and Robitic Automation. A recession hit and the Web was the place to be. So I went back to college for another degree in Visual Communications and Computer Graphics. I was three classes away from graduation. and I was miserable. Sitting in front of a computer was the best job I never finished. I had a 4.03 GPA and I said all done. Pro ably the only thing in my life that I flat out quit. I would sooner stack firewood and play pick up sticks with kindling than videos.

We went shoe shopping and I picked up a pair of steel toed shoes with the factory installed. metatarsal guard. I tried on many different brands. Each brand had a different style steel toe box that will never stretch. My selection was based on how the toe box fit rather than looks. Vanity goes out the window when working with logs. For the ladies, .more manufacturers are making womens work boots. I recommend trying on in person.

It's a natural tendency to let the bar swing right after the cut. Don't let it swing behind your legs. The chain doesn't stop right away. The 462 is a beast. If your not strong get something smaller. If you start getting fatigued, put it down and take a break. Don't mess with these things.

Great job! Always keep those appendages out of the way. Thinking of buying chainsaw boots as like you Chris and many other my foot is usually hold a log from time to time and one time the saw gotta way from me and giving I waking holding the throttle anymore it still went through the side of my boot just behind the steel in the toe and cut my foot about a 8th in deep still have a scare. 1st plan should be the best plan lol. Nice video. I have never run a 462C-M, but ran a buddies 461 and it was a nice saw but heavy. I think they made the 462 lighter, but then I don't try to keep up with the Stihl product line changes. Ann seems to be a down to earth lady with a common sense approach to work. GNI

This saw is the same weight as my MS 311 with the exception of having the 25" bar on it. 13.1 lbs. It does get a bit heavy after 30 min of use. Not ideal for limbing a tree. I break out the 16' 435 husky for that.

I am going to order a pair for my husband's OSHA not approved sandals. After my dad passed the church we attended asked if I could take over some of the church chores he did weekly. I agreed. One thing I did weekly was police the pews for a 1200 seating capacity church. Very quickly I introduced my shins to the metal legs of the flipped up kneelers. I went to a pro soccer store and I picked up a set of shin guards. Problem solved.

Good Morning Rick Best job ever. Here is an update on my thumb. Shortly after visiting Chris I had a meeting with the plastic surgeon/hand God at the level 1Trauma Center. This was the first appointment after surgery. The cast was removed, everything soaked and the Dr. said great news, your finger is pink. So the tissue was perfusing and I could feel him checking for neurological function. He said at this . moment in time I would not need more surgery. He showed me the x rays and the bone was crushed into 12 pieces. The three little weird holes that I could see were bone fragments. The doctor walked me to physical therapy that specializes in hand trauma. I walked into the clinic and a woman was standing at a table. I said hello and she just looked at me. I said HI and she said do you remember me? No, I am sorry I do not. She said I am Kim. She was going to school for her Masters Degree in Milwaukee. When it was time for clinicals, she went back home in Illinois. I always wondered what happened to her and how she was doing. She said I saw your name on the daily patient schedule and I pulled your file. So, out if the blue and a little Devine intervention I have someone who I admired her study habits, was now responsible for my rehab. I am ahead of schedule in recovery. I will not be doing hand splitting with a wedge and five pound sledge for a year, if ever again. They absolutely do not want my thumb hit by blunt force trauma. Fast forward a few weeks I meet the hand surgeon again. For sure no surgery. Again ahead of schedule. I have two removable hard casts to wear when tinkering with my twigs. I have coban to wear on indoor recess days. It is latex free protective wrap. At night I have a silicone gel one piece splint for sleeping. I have a routine of exercises to break up the scar tissue, calm the nerve firing by tactile stimulation by touching everything. I also have eleven exercises to increase the range if motion, that I do five times a day. I did mention that I had point tenderness to my first knuckle. Kim looked at the x rays and she said you also broke a bone in your knuckle. I go back July 5th for another look see and physical therapy. Did this hurt? Yes, when Bill was bandaging it hurt. He was the first Paramagic in the county west of me. We have trauma kits in each vehicle stocked with supplies. If you should get injured, go in and get it looked at. I saw three weird looking holes. Rub a little dirt on it and press on. When the Urgent Care team said we do not know how they are going to fix this, that got my attention. Being told you are on the board at the Trauma Center and two hand surgeons are waiting for you will get your attention real quick. If the thumb died, my big toe would have become my thumb.
@@annmariekowalski7505 sounded good till I heard it was was shattered break, but looks like they have done the right treatment for you. I had a really bad broken left wrist 15 months back, getting better but will never be perfect. Oh, hope it goes okay on 5 July with the knuckle, you just have to be really careful whilst everything is still healing. I saw that Chris gave you his momentous gift for visiting the Woodyard, I’m sure it’s hanging on the wall Look after yourself Anne-Marie😀🇦🇺

Those things on her shoes would have been nice to have a while back. I was cutting some ironwood I had in a pile and my saw basically chucked a log back at me and it landed right on the top of my right foot. Man did it feel good. I have one of those little 5 ton electric splitters too but I only use it for busting down kindling. I keep it right in the body shop by the stove. I have my other splitter but that little 5 ton splitter works great if you want to break something down smaller at the stove or make kindling. Sounds like she needs to get herself a real splitter even just a homeowner grade one from a big box store. See them at estate sales all the time for $300-500 range if you didn't want to buy a new one

I've actually been considering buying one. Tractor Supply has one with a stand, so it;s up at waist height, not 16" off the ground. (which my lower back would greatly appreciate!) With all the free yard maple I've been getting, hand splitting is beginning to lose it's charm, lol.

I have The Earthquake. I ordered one for my nephew in NC. He picked it up at his local hardware store. We both like them. I have split so much wood that the wedge is no longer wedgie. I. need to weld on some filler material and grind down a new face. Bill put mine on a cart. I sit on a tool box and I can roll the cart from area to area. We put a hitch pin on the cart handle so it can be removed and out of the way.
I like being able to look at the grain and then try to get a clean split with only a few splinters. Sometimes it is hard to tell which way the rings will break. In that case the wood is like the fur on a dog. One way the fur lays flat. Another way the fur stands up. Same with wood. I put the flat laying grain up against the wedge and then split. Yes, this takes time and a lot of messing around but less splinters or a letter from Dewey, Cheatum and Howe ESQ.
Hey Chris; That STIHL saw cuts better than those husky darner saws you usually use. You would look great wearing that chain saw apron your guest is wearing. This is one of the greatest posts. Could you try that apron on. Just so we all could see how it looks on you.

Good Morning John The bibs wirk for me. They save on ripping up the abdomen and chest area. Now I know what to do for Chris for Christmas. Everyone gets a handmade item. This year if Friendly Firewood Flops, everyone will get a piece of wood in their stocking, except Chris. If you put an Oregon LGX chain on it will cut a little bit faster the Oregon chains have a slightly narrower curf...I modified my old ms440 to accept a 325 pitch chain with a 9 pin sprocket in smaller wood it will out cut your 592 because of that narrow curf... And other modifications I have done to it

After 16 years of mandatory wearing of met boots they are hard on your feet. I’d highly suggest using the ones she displayed that are aftermarket. The most comfortable ones I have used are from keen with the external guards.

I’ve been trying to find a 462 that was bought by homeowner and used for like an hour before their wife found out how much they spent and it goes on Facebook marketplace. A few have popped up but they are gone within like an hour , may have to pony up and pay full price .
That is going to be hard, finding a 500 or 462 is not easy even at the Stihl shops!

Mulberry is very hard to split,I have a 27ton champion that does well. I've done 2 Mulberry trees in the last year with it but the Easton Made ultra was impressive splitting that Mulberry that had some nasty knots and the bad cuts with the angles are not a splitters friend. (Homeowner wood ).

I have a MS462c and a MS500i. I had the 462 first and I was looking for a bigger saw. The dealer told me the 500i would cut circles around the 462c.....Well they were wrong. If I was to do it again I would have just bought another 462c for less money. Don't get me wrong. The 500i is a great saw but not that much better than the 462c and in my opinion not worth the extra money. Great job Ann. Chris sure didn't go easy on you with that crappy wood! Dave

I like the 25" bar because I'm 6'2" and I can stand pretty much straight up when I'm bucking on the ground. It does wonders for saving my back. Dave
Look up Billy out west,he did a video with the 500 vs 462 and said something to thee affect Stihl's 500 has a problem and it's the 462!😂 Love mine.
Ann Marie take care of that thumb and don't let them cut it off, it will heal in time. Put an ES light bar on the 462 and you will like it even more. The first 462 I ran I said this saw is more like a Husky than a Stihl, what the 572xp should have been. And with the improvements Stihl has made to it, a winner.

I was ready to buy a stihl but after homework on it I didn’t like that it was all self adjusting and sad thing is the dealer couldn’t explain the saw I had to watch Utube videos on it lol ended up getting a husky 460 rancher 24” bar and about a month later naught a husky t435 for a new trim saw it’s light and powerful and can handle it with one hand even with the arm issues I have … I have old John Deere , homelite , frontier , McCullough, stihl, probably ones I’m forgetting lol figure you. Can never have to many chainsaws 😂

I'm a hardcore Stihll guy but tthe 572 is every bit as good as the 462 but did you notice how light the 462 is they do have a different feel if you're used to the Husqvarna

Before Covid wewere the only people home in a five block radius. Now everyone is home. I cannot cut the grass without someone complaining that they cannot hear their business calls because my mower is running. Could I at least wait until after 5? Sure buttercup, anything for you. Fax me your problem. With the yard and meadow, I am cutting five acres.
I gave up on splitting the big crouch wood. I use it for my campfire wood now one goes all night.

OK it goes without saying that you have alot of videos. I need to find the one that brought you to deciding to buy that awesome eastonmade firewood processor. I mean, it's a no brainer, don't get me wrong here, but you had to have gone back and forth on that decision with a 105k price tag (well, that's what it says on their website anyways). I don't know about you, but I can talk myself into, and out of, just about any purchase.
I bought a Eastonmade ULTRA about 2 years ago and it easily doubled my output since then. They make machines that will last a life time and not loose value!

With the inherent danger of chainsaws, splitters, etc. we all deal with, it would be worth looking into carrying an IFAK (individual first aid kit.) I took a stop the bleed/TCCC class last year and have one on me 100% of the time now when cutting. A small investment and training could easily prevent a tragedy.
Yes! I keep a fist aid kit in my truck and a tourniquet at all times!
Two suggestions to add to a kit. If you are on blood thinners, I would recommend a product called BLEED STOP. It comes in a box with a few packets in each box. Available at local drug stores. I have used this on Bill a few times. Second item is carry womens heavy day femine pads. They make excellent bandages. When you are bandaging, no peeking. Leave the original pad in place and just add on. Something simple to remember is if the face is red, raise the head. If the face is pale raise the tail. If the face is blue, give 02.
