REACTING TO THE SCHIAPARELLI HAUTE COUTURE SHOW & THE ROBOT BABY

2024 ж. 26 Қаң.
77 818 Рет қаралды

The Spring 2024 Haute Couture season was one for the books! And it started off with Schiaparelli by Daniel Roseberry taking on the theme of the "Schiaparalien" which relates back to Elsa Schiaparelli's uncle's discovery of land formations on the planet Mars and his coining of the term "Martian".
But besides from the celebrities like Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, and Jennifer Lopez the most memorable moments saw technology and crystal encrusted dresses, and a fake robot baby!

  • I think the silk knots are referencing horses' button braids or dressage braids, the little knots on a horse's mane that are often used in shows, and it ties it in with the cowboy/Texas theme of some of the garments. Brilliant show and great review, learnt so much!

  • per chatgpt: Giovanni Schiaparelli (1835-1910) was an Italian astronomer and science historian. He is best known for his observations and studies of the planet Mars. Schiaparelli's most famous contribution to Martian astronomy is the description of the surface features he observed, which he called "canali" (Italian for channels or grooves). However, a translation error led to the popularization of the term as "canals" in English, implying the possibility of artificial constructions. Schiaparelli's observations sparked significant controversy and speculation about the possibility of intelligent life on Mars, with some scientists and the public interpreting the "canals" as evidence of an advanced Martian civilization. Later, advancements in telescopic technology and more accurate observations revealed that the "canals" were, in fact, optical illusions or misinterpretations of natural features on the Martian surface. Despite the controversy surrounding the canals, Schiaparelli made other important contributions to astronomy, including his work on meteor showers and the study of the Moon. His observations laid the groundwork for later astronomers, and he remains an important figure in the history of planetary astronomy.

  • The order of garments was off on this show. The technology dress was just kind of plopped unceremoniously into the center of the show when it would have been an exclamation point of an end note while the last couple garments felt so unceremonious by comparison, when Daniel walked out my partner was like 'wait, that's it?' The technology dress and that white lace veil dress were so underserved by their placements in the show.

  • This was a great collection from them, not my all time fav, but nat my least fav by any means. The ingenuity of the constructions, especially in the gowns and other one piece garments is beautifully done. And like you pointed out, I love that the references were layered on top of each other, yet still created cohesive looks.

  • I loved this. I am a servant girl, but learning. Question: Who is the client for these looks? I understand the more commercial, pret a porter sections of the house fund the Haute Couture, but do people buy these? I am trying to imagine someone in the lace dress at a dinner party or a fundraiser and I get a bit baffled. Are the looks changed for clients to be more "wearable". I am not being cynical as this soooo over my head and bank account--I am earnestly curious?

It’s so crazy how they have created the different fabrics to look like completely different ones by the way the light reflects on them 😍 Also love the idea of the Gen Alpha baby & the fact the dress if kind of a nod to our generation (Just realised we were born in the same year). It’s kind of mad to think those old ‘brick phones’ as we use to call them could become rare artefacts in the future or even now aha … need to look out my old ones! It made me think of my first pink Motorola flip phone 💖
