The Time Jalen Hurts Led An Amazing Comeback Against Georgia

2021 ж. 30 Мау.

The year after Jalen Hurts was replaced by Tua Tagovailoa Alabama would once again face Georgia. In the 2018 SEC Championship backup QB Jalen Hurts stepped in for Tua after an ankle injury. Late in the fourth quarter Hurts would score the game winning touchdown leading the Tide to a 35-28 victory over the Bulldogs to win the conference.

    • Pure nonsense. Jalen struggled against good defenses down the stretch. 4th quarter comeback to beat Mississippi State. The loss to Auburn. Alabama was lucky to make the playoff after that. Alabama's defense dominated Clemson so the offense was very conservative. Shut out by Georgia for a half. Jalen was struggling with his reads and accuracy as a passer. He got a lot better the year he backed up Tua and in his season at Oklahoma.

    • @@LeskoBrandon2x - Oh don't take it wrong, he is no where near the top of the list of the greats, I would probably go Derrick Thomas or maybe Joe Namath if I had to pick. Jalen Hurts is my favorite, for as much off the field as on. I don't think the young man took a wrong step the entire time he was at The Capstone. He was touted as a sure fire Heisman winner as a freshman and lost his job a couple of years later. In all of that, and the intense media circus that went along with it, he stayed true to his school, his team, and himself. While everyone begged him to change position all he ever said was "no thanks, I'm going to be an NFL quarterback". It wasn't a vanity, it was just the reality in his mind and by god he was right. I could go on and on about the guy, he was simply the perfect college athlete and he capped his entire career off at Alabama by earning his degree before being off to Oklahoma to prove all of the doubters wrong, just as he seems to be doing with the Eagles in the present. I just think the world of the guy and hope his time in the NFL is as amazing as he deserves. Roll Tide Roll

    • That's what happened at Clemson .... which shoes the glaring difference between Saban and Sweeney. Sweeney is a great coach... Saban is a great coach and a great man.

    • @@marktastic86 Yes, it is well known in Tuscaloosa that Jalen is Saban's favorite. Saban credits his family for his work ethic and he did come in with that. But I have noticed some Saban expressions and mannerisms in his post game interviews. If you think about it makes perfect sense because the way Jalen handles adversity is exactly how Saban would like for every player. Hurts lives Saban's philosophy better than everybody except maybe Saban himself.

    • You're right. Just in my lifetime the 94, 02, 07, 12, 17, and 18 games were 1 score final drives decide the winner type games. Because of divisions teams don't play each other often but when bama and uga share the field, to quote lane kiffin, better get your popcorn ready!

  • would say its absolutely heart breaking losing like this twice to bama but its Georgia fans they deserve it. sabans call the year before with Tua and this game with Hurts are why he is the greatest coach of all time. I am an Arkansas fan but its been incredible watching Saban and his players. There is not a thing in the world like SEC football. Now with Texas and OU joining honestly believe Texas will grow to be competitive however OU is going to regret the move and become the whipping boy.

  • I was so frustrated in the 3rd quarter that I git up and went to sit on the patio. It wasn't until my wife looked outside and told me the game was tied and Bama had the ball that I began watching again. I love and appreciate Tua but this comeback just meant more because it was Jalen leading the charge. I can't love this video enough!
