"I'm like a vault!" 😂 Ella Purnell and the Fallout team on Easter eggs and sweating out your eyes

The stars of Fallout - namely Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan and Walton Goggins, alongside director Jonathan Nolan and Bethesda Game Studios’ very own Todd Howard - joins BBC Radio 1's film critic Ali Plumb to talk about turning the much-loved game franchise into a Prime Video series, touching on Easter eggs, baking the perfect tone “soufflé”, approaching NPC’s with a weapon outstretched, saying “jumper” instead of “sweater” and the fine art of sweating out of your eye sockets.

  • "I grabbed a moldy one." That really drove home how much form over function the Overseer of Vault 4 was. He gets a cup of coffee, leaves it on his desk until it's growing mold in the leftover cold coffee, and then picks it up and drinks out of it because he's forgotten which cup is relatively recent and which one has been there a week or more. Someone who thinks about "why" and "how" isn't going to just leave stale coffee on his desk for a week. But he doesn't have a routine, or a procedure, for getting rid of the old cup. He just has one for getting a fresh cup. It just never occurs to him that following a pointless routine that doesn't allow for practical considerations isn't a good idea. Then, later in the scene, he *insists* to Lucy's face that her name is actually Gucy (pronounced "Goosey") because that's what someone wrote down on her paperwork. Doesn't matter that she knows what her own name is, only the paperwork matters. Routine over reality.

  • A lot of people don't care for Maximus it seems, but I really enjoyed how morally ambiguous he seems early on and how he goes from stultified, 'rabbit in the headlights' bewilderment to just about vaguely competent by the end once he has stakes beyond his own skin to think about. There's something about him that reminds me of a Coen Brothers sort of character.

  • When I first heard my favourite game was getting an accurately depicted show, I instantly said, it needs to be from multiple points of view, showing people from different factions, inevitably meeting, and going on a quest together, i was pretty much spot on Though I dont see any other way they could have done it better really haha I've got 2 episodes left and I've been smiling throughout every episode, because its so perfect, I 100% guarantee this success will green light *The Elder Scrolls* Series, along with Fallout season 2, makes me so happy 😅

    • Elder scrolls will be so hard to adapt. Like how do you adapt the world of tamriel well, set it in a part of tamriel not seen in the games, or present all of tamriel in some way? It's a much harder adaptation effort either way they try to.

      @SeanSMST@SeanSMST28 күн бұрын
    • @@SeanSMST you say that, but Fallout is technically bigger than Tamriel, its the entirety of America, if you don't consider what happens in the rest of the world, they could do what they did with fallout, 3 stories from different races, that end up interacting whilst on some quest, I think 1 of the characters should be the dragon born though, it doesn't need to incorporate everything from the elder scrolls, just snippets, just like fallout didnt have deathclaws, molerats, protections, super mutants ect They have so many possibilities with both fallout and elder scrolls, because they could have like 6 spin off series, because the lore is so thick, maybe we will finally find out what happened to the dwarves, just like we finally got confirmation that vault tech dropped the nukes Just think Game of thrones with extra magika
