Dark colors can make a room feel Cozy not necessary dreary or depressing!
I love the idea of master bedroom, en-suite and dressing room.
“My home! Where I live! And I’m staying!” 😂 You tell ‘em, Phil! I’m not sure what I’d do with that last room. Since there are water hookups convenient, maybe a private sitting room with coffee station/wet bar for a morning cup of coffee and a view out onto the copper beech? In the evening it could also function as a media room. That gives you a completely private suite on the first floor when your post-party guests are running amok in the rest of the chateau!
One person living in a huge, old mansion - not the best idea.
@@margf.6773 please explain why?
@@margf.6773 Really? If I had never met my boyfriend I could happily live by myself. No unannounced visitors, I can have things exactly how I want them, everything I own is in one place, And if something goes missing it's my own fault LMAO
I’d live there- with or without others!!! Of course, I’ve lived mostly alone for decades, so I’m partial to a comfy “retreat” from the world, when I want it🤗🌈🌞
@@margf.6773pas toujours le choix 😉
Floor plan helps enormously. Thanks.
I love the idea of a navy and white bedroom, navy walls to match that beautiful rug and white trims with splashes of gold leaf! I would reverse the bathroom to white with navy and gold tap-ware! We changed our bedroom to a much darker colour to help with the bright sunrise each morning and it really helped. It’s your home Phil and you need to do what suits you! 😀🇦🇺
Many people are going darker in areas where they want to relax more, it’s very soothing. Phil, will you paint or have thought of a navy pattered wall paper? Maybe even a faux brushed leather look? That would be masculine, relaxing, and sexy. Just saying… I do like the idea of doing the opposite in the bathroom.
Not a designer. Have no suggestions, just love to watch your videos.
The dark aesthetic is going to look so badass ! Love the idea of hidden rooms. Making that corner room its own master sounds like a good idea for company to stay. It’s going to be brilliant when you get it the way that’s perfect for you and any future partner.
I like your idea to make a bedroom suite for someone who cannot climb stairs .
I’m with you, Phillip. I like dark bedrooms. The sun, light, wakes me up. Again, it’s your house, your choice. Thanks for the showing us the plans.🤗🇨🇦
It's your home. Love it. It's yours❤❤❤
Dark can be cozy warm and enveloping.
Hi Phil! You are doing SO WELL with all the challenges life is throwing at you. I am glad to see you digging in to projects and building your self esteem plus recovering your productivity. On your Master Suite...I know you have had manymanymany suggestions! ...you DID ask for them.... I would make that extra room off the bedroom a sitting room. Keep the two matching wardrobes and put them in there for additional storage, put your television in there so there is no distraction or bombardment of EMF's when you are sleeping. Put a lovely plush and cushy lounge chair in there with a reading lamp. Use that room to read or make lists, also before bed. The third armoire with the mirrors could be left in the bedroom or placed in the on-suite for towels, pajamas, bathroom items, etc. A deep rich navy wall color in the bedroom will be so calming, restful and masculine. Also very nautical in keeping with the waters surrounding the chateau. Whatever you do, it will be YOUR OWN! I look forward to seeing the final results. Carry on!
Great suggestions. My thought was also a small private living area, I would add a coffee machine and favourite night tipple cabinet.
I love the idea of your dark blue main suite and I can see you on suite tiled partially in the same color blue tiles with white tub and sink, gold taps. Maybe a coordinating wallpaper in your dressing room.
I've always had my bedrooms painted a dark sage. It's masculine without being overwhelming. The sage also provides a restful color at the end of the day.
Great to see the floor plan, it's a magnificent chateau.
A media room might be nice if you'll use it, but I love that you're considering a guest room for those who can't handle an extra set of stairs.
For colors in your suite: I was told that you pick your main color: navy blue. Then every room in the suite should have that same navy, but in a different emphasis. Maybe the trim, or just the fabrics, or lighter shade. They eye goes from one to another easily even though each space is distinct in its own way. Love watching your progress. You do you.
Phil your home your choice ignore the know betters !!! All the best and success for your plans 😊❤😊❤
I'm with you Phil...love the dark colours...cozy and warm. It's all about following you around and being there for you with encouragement ....that's the fun of it! Crack on Phil!
Your plans for your chateau sound solid Phil. I look forward to seeing where your journey takes you.🙏❤️
Thanks for your candor. Love it when you feel like sharing more details of your life. Also love it when you set boundaries and tell us not to meddle.
Thanks for sharing the floor plan, Phil! Very helpful! 👍
One day at a time. Once you get it organized it will look gorgeous 😍
I think the corner room makes the most sense as a guest room. Im fascinated by the hidden room complex!
It's your home Phil and if you want purple and red polka dots then you go for it 😂 You said in one of your videos that you like the gold trim on the doors and the antique gold of the mirror but over all you'd like a dark, cosy and obviously a masculine space so with all that in mind I think a midnight blue and gold trim room would look fantastic, dark blue ceiling as well, maybe a dark blue wallpaper with gold abstract behind the bed? I went onto Pinterest and looked at some ideas, may I suggest you put together a "mood" board with colours, design and textures you are drawn to. Also maybe think about integrating a pull out ironing board behind what looks like a drawer in your dressing room and depending on where your laundry room is located perhaps hidden behind a lower cupboard in your dressing room a shoot that drops down into your laundry room for clothes etc needing to be washed. Just some ideas but remember it's your home 🤩☺️
I love your idea for a navy bedroom and a dressing room off the bedroom. It’s masculine and with gold framed mirrors and pictures on the walls and dark antique furniture it will look timeless and appropriate for a chateau. Yes a media room could be fun. The hidden room could be cool especially if a bookcase door makes it even more hidden. Maybe it’s where you keep your gold bars and treasures!!! 🤪. You definitely do not need to recreate an office since you love the office you already have. I’m very excited for your future and the “bachelors pad” or rather the home of a kind and single man.
Your ideas make perfect sense, lovely master suite for you too enjoy! The bed room of beds, make into a bed and bath on suite for future use. Your reasonably young Phil, love and possibly baby would be perfect next to the master. Just saying! 🇨🇦😃
An idea for the dressing room turned it into a laundry room and linen closet. You could put seasonal clothes in there too. That way, you wouldn't have to go down to your laundry room downstairs.
2nd suggestion for stuff you want to get rid of is that you call Cheatue owners and get all Cheatue owners together. Then you let them know what you have and you trade pieces for something with someone else has or give to someone who can use it. Stephanie Jarvis just did a weekend like that at her place. They traded curtins, China, clothes, anything you can think of.
Thanks the tour. I'm looking forward to seeing your plans come to fruition. The idea of opening the floor for the ultimate master suite is genius. A man and his chateau.
Your plan for a master suite looks great, as for the room with all the spare beds in keep this as your own film and entertainment room with TV etc. Your office is up there too above the morning yellow room, so this floor is exclusively private and visitors and friends have no need to go up there in your private quarters. You can keep the blue and white theme running or have what colours you like, this will be your safe sanctuary after a busy day or week if you choose. Guest bedrooms are used very rarely so no need to incorporate them on your private floor, besides they are another project for the future one by one. Great to see you actually thinking of yourself for a change, your private home life needs to be 'just that'. 💕🇦🇺
It is a good plan. When you have done your bedroom then you can start planning the corner room. 😊
Totally get your ideas Phil. Dark colours can be atmospheric and moody. Great for sleep. It is lovely now but will be fabulous when you have finished!! xx
Thank you for the tour! It's much easier to understand the layout and I know I'm a visual person so this was great!
Hidden room?! Yes please! Thank you for cleaning stuff before bringing it to charity. I charity shop a lot and it's astounding how many people bring in dirty things. I live in a city but I have woods all around my house and the leaves are back on all the trees so I am quite enjoying my masterful view of the driveway and my neighbors 3 acres.
The floor plan really helped understand how your chateau is layed out! Thanks 😌
Your ideas are right on....a guest room would be nice...but you need to feel this out. Look at your beautiful ground floor...you have this.
Love the idea of a media room, if you are a big film watcher.
Every time you show us more, I can see why you love your chateau so much! I really like the idea of your dark/navy bedroom idea.
Merci! I really appreciated the tour with floor plan. It helps me, as a viewer, to better understand your vision for the chateau.
Look at the lovely colours Terry and Ash did in the 401 suite. Seems a perfect example of a suite you could get inspiration from
Hi Phil..I agree. Dark bedrooms are very relaxing (mine is Chinese red), and one could sleep all day...Good for you. Your castle is fabulous, already. Keep going, a European room is never quite finished...a bit here and there, now and then just adds more character...Go at your own speed and it will get done...love your Shangrila with bird sanctuary, always...
I love your lay out down stairs and your plan for upstairs. A Chateau absolutely needs the master suite to essentially take up one floor! Your blue/gold color scheme will be beautiful. I think people forget that the tone of a color can also make a difference in its effect on a room. A dark color, such as navy, doesn't have to be a dark somber color. I'm torn between what to use the room on the end for. On one hand, I personally love having my storage handy but out of the way, as it would be there. But, to have storage next to your grand suite doesn't feel right unless you actually need access to it enough to make it a living breathing room and not just an attic on a lower floor.... if that makes any sense. I think as you progress, it will come to you at the right time what to use the room for. You and your home are going through a metamorphosis. Congratulations on living your life!
Your bachelor pad is exactly what you need 🎉❤
BEST WISHES TO YOU
Phil, my suggestion on furniture you are trying to get rid of. Call Billy's friends Edd & Anna they were looking for furniture for their passion project. As well probably for the corner house they are restoring.
Always like your updates. Finish your suite, clean out your storage spare room and leave until an idea is hatched. Certainly prep for washroom and bathing.
I love your plans! Dark rooms are gorgeous, don’t let anyone sway you. Moody, dark jewel colors would be spectacular ❤️
You know, you are not going to like all the excursuses you will hear from those who want to sleep on the same floor you do. Keep your privacy, and your floor to yourself. I could say more, but you do you. Even with its challenges you have one of the most beautiful landscapes of all of the Chateaus that I watch. Thank you, Mavourneen
For the pink room I would make a nice deep soaking tub and sauna and or steam shower. Also maybe a wine fridge in the bathroom for some libations while soaking! I’d put the tub by the window so you could enjoy the view. The dressing room I would maybe add a nice comfy chair for reading and just contemplating. As for colors deep rich colors with gold accents. So I’d go a deep cobalt blue or woods. Something masculine in color that can be tweaked if a lady love appears in your life. I’d go to your favorite paint shop and see what strikes your fancy. As for the other rooms clear them out first then I suggest sit in that room on occasion and feel it’s vibe as to what you think it wants to be.
Phil, may I suggest that you find the wallpaper for your dressing room that has lots of navy in it. Then, you can pull whatever other colours you desire for the bath, the extra room (private sitting room/media room) and accents. To make the entire floor cohesive you carry that palette through to your office, the hallway and that extra bath.
I love the suite. That blue and cream carpet in your master bedroom has a terrific color palette for the entire suite. And shades of those colors. I painted my bedroom a dark olive green and I LOVED it. It was relaxing and like you said, who wants a bright bedroom? I like it so much I carried a quilt to the paint store and bought dark, bright colors for the rest of the house. My house, my taste. I didn't realize your suite faced west, the evening light will be beautiful with the dark blue.
I love the sun room. It's so cheerful and welcoming. I think the master bedroom would be beautiful in navy blue and gold trim. Do you have any hobbies you do or would like to attempt? Do you have any collections you could display in glass cases? For instance, I collect hand thrown pottery: bowls, pitchers, vases etc. I have cases where I display my pieces. Would you have anything like that? My uncle collects antique pewter. He displays his in glass cases, hangs them on walls, and scatters them on top of furniture pieces. Just an idea. It would be a kind of private museum of your favorite things. My father used to collect unique beer steins, horse brasses, and early travel photography.
Your plan for you in your home sounds perfect! I know you will choose a color scheme that compliments your eyes and hair color. After all home is the stage where you live out your story. So glad to see you happy and making great changes to your home.I always enjoy your videos! Just a reminder ......... Ryan is going to need a lot of furniture in that house he is renovating.
Hi Phil Like light and uplifting colors. Love to see that yellow changed out. It could be different shade of paint or wallpaper. Yellow is fine, but I just think this one is awfully strong and a bit jolting. For the dark you like, and which would be especially nice for a man’s room, I’d pick that up with the furniture and some accent pieces, and soft goods. They do have remote-controlled blinds or shades. You can bring them up from the bottom or down from the top, to adjust light. You’re thoughtful to launder all your charity donations. I’ve worked on collecting for charity and it’s lovely when people like you are so considerate.🥰 For master suite I’d get a cohesive look. Rooms don’t need to be the same. Just coordinate and compliment. You’ll work your way through. Don’t know about your area, but paint and paper shops let you take home sample books. Don’t rush yourself. Just sit with the paint or paper samples in the room you might want them in, and watch the light changes. Sometimes it’s really surprising how it alters the look. You’re doing a great job and that’s a lot in the construction alone to tackle. Good luck 🍀
Love your Bachelor pad❤❤ Yes a media room … drinks 🍹 nibbles ,great friends and a good movie …what a fantastic idea for that corner room but torn … also like the spare bedroom thingy … Your home, your choice ,your Castle❤❤😊🫶❤️😇
Thank you! That was helpful, placing together just a few more of the pieces of your beautiful "Puzzle"! The corner room where all the spare beds are is in a beautiful setting, especially if all the windows could be opened! I'm wondering if being at the end of your suite, you would be comfortable with having it as a guest suite? Having been in care giving many years and having myself broken both my legs, (thankfully at different times!), my thought is, that if all your guest accommodations are 3 levels up, it just might be very nice to have a place where those who would find the stairs difficult and painful would not have to be climbing clear to the top! Just a thought. Oh and from the view we got of all those beds, they all looked plenty nice enough to furnish the upstairs bedrooms, if they aren't yet! Then they could be replaced in a more relaxed way as you found ones you liked better over time! But perhaps they are broken or need more attention than you have time for right now. You do have good reasons for doing what you do, and are very gracious as you bring us all along with you!
Hi Phil, you are quite right to plan your chateau to fit into how you spend the time of your life. Your plans for the batchelor pad does fit that description of your plan but my suggestion links to the chateau earning income for the plans, a back up income when you might need it or saving money to easily take a break from working and places in the chateau when other people like family, friends. guests, volunteers etc might. need to sleep there. Also in summer perhaps an area where a couple of yurts or as well as parking for a mobile home could be parked if your guests bring their own accommodation on wheels.
I look forward to seeing what you decide to do with the renovations of the 1st floor Phil and as Billy would say 'Crack on'. Thanks for sharing your plans and thoughts. Have a lovely day.
You have worked so hard to maintain this beautiful building I truly admire your commitment to keeping this beautiful building safe against the elements It is a testament to both your commitment and dedication ❤ However I don’t think it will be a forever bachelor pad xx
I love that you are renovating the chateau as your home. It is very different from Billy and the Convent. No need to preserve history except what you like and what makes for comfortable living. A big clear out is a great idea. Blank canvas allows for inspiration without clutter. Love also that you clear as you go. Renovation of a home still lived in requires that. 👏🏼
I love the morning room. So beautiful, peaceful, and sunny. That’s my favorite room of all you’ve shown us so far. ❤
I once stayed at a bed-and-breakfast in a room done in a rich golden color with a ceiling of dark navy that was almost textured with lighter hints of blue. It was gorgeous and felt very classy. It was not a huge room (maybe a quarter the size of your room) but did not feel small at all. I love the idea of a dark navy or dark blue room. With the size of it, I am sure you will be pleased with that color choice using the right trim colors and accents. Kudos to you for sticking to your own ideas while explaining your plan and being open to more ideas.
"Big picture" guide rails can be a huge help when staging the "bones," followed by the "meat" in your master planning. Key: making it fluid enough in order to accommodate future scenarios (however remote or even possible). May include (1) on boarding of a significant partner or spouse, (2) generic enough design/decor to capture the imaginations of any possible prospective buyers, (3) elements to delight or add to the conveniences of house guests ... ( It wouldn't hurt one bit to ask for input from some a feminine source. ) :)
I think you should do a drawing of the first floor plan, using the existing drawing of the ground floor as a template. Indicating where things are in comparison to the ground floor plan is super helpful, but some of this is still a bit confusing to me, especially when it comes to that strange conglomeration of rooms between your suite and your office. I think drawing that out will probably be helpful for your overall planning, as you'll see things from a bird's eye view that you wouldn't as you're walking through the space. I think if you're going to make the entire first floor the Phil Zone, then the spaces in the corner between your suite and office should be incorporated into that. Maybe it makes more sense to have the gym equipment in that area, rather than on the ground floor. Basically anything you would do alone, you should move that activity to the Phil Zone on the first floor. A media room makes more sense on the ground floor, since you would more than likely have friends join you to watch movies and the like. Basically, if the ground floor is all the 'friends and family' space, the first floor is the Phil Zone and the top floor is guest accommodations, then planning those spaces should be pretty straightforward. If I were you, I would knock out as many of those partition walls on the first floor as you can, mindful of structural support, obviously. Fewer, larger rooms are preferable to a warren of bizarre, cramped spaces that probably made sense for a very different way of living for the past occupants of the chateau. You're definitely on the right track! This is going to be an awesome bachelor pad when it's all said and done.
Dark color is fine for the bedroom. You said something about navy blue earlier; might I suggest a deep slate gray with a bluish cast? More neutral & easier to tie in some other accent pieces.
I would use that extra room as gym and the gym redo it as a kitchen, having a big kitchen is always useful 😊
Love your ideas for a dark masculine bedroom. Very posh and comfortable.
I like the color scheme for the owner suite/bedroom. Use the same colors or lighter version of the navy in the adjoining rooms as the base and then you can add other colors you like as accents in the decor and artwork. If you have a piece or pieces of art or a carpet you love, choose colors from them as accent/decor colors. I would keep the current “storage room” separate so it can be whatever you need/want over time whether that be a media room, a bedroom, or possibly a future partner’s office/personal space. I hope you are keeping those beautiful beds for the upper level bedrooms. I truly appreciated the floor plan and walk about to understand your vision. You have a beautiful home and your plans sound like there will be a lot of videos for us to enjoy along the way.
I love your idea of a true MASTER suite, when you first showed your ideas I thought they were amazing and with the dressing room and luxurious ensuite you can relax in the calming atmosphere you have created. Not everyone is going to like the dark colours but not everyone will like light colours but the only person you need to please is yourself and enjoy the process. I totally understand why you like to keep you personal space your own but I do hope you will share the process of constructing your ideal dream suite and once it is completed you can again shut the doors to the outside world and it will become your sanctuary again. Just a thought - have you thought about giving Billy the green chair for his library because it would look lovely in a reading corner. Have a great weekend xx
The last room could be media room/spare room (Murphy’s bed), that way it can be used 100%. Dark colours are amazing, your local little green or paint shop can suggest companion colours once you pick the main colour. Can’t wait to see the progress!
Your decorating ideas are fantastic!! You go Phil.
Hahaha That corner room should be Lightnings bedroom, with his own bed and toy area, His own bathroom for grooming supplies & doggie towels. a couple of window seats for his best house protection views. That's how you Bachelor a Chateau
Hi,Phil. Thanks for the look at your house plans. I agree with everything that you're planning so far. The corner storage room is a good size ( will be much bigger if you take down the side wall). It makes sense to have one guest room on that floor for people who have difficulty with stairs. It also makes sense to have a good sized storage room for extra furniture, etc. Maybe keep that wall up but change the access point. The new storage room will incorporate the "secret room". It's a private space and historical. It's also best to keep people away from it in case of possible injuries. If you decide to host guided "ghost tours"; you will be keeping the guests safe. Regarding the Reno costs; it's much cheaper to move the door from adjacent to the new bedroom to hallway access only. Actually, you could leave the original door way where it's at; just keep it locked. Only one door way to add.😁. Everything else seems fine as you planned. When it's time to Reno a room( one at a time) just borrow Billy's crew. They do a great job! It's your house, your rules. You are the King of your castle 🏰.
Your plans for your Chateau are wonderful and so it makes excellent sense to stay. Why people are suggesting you leave is crazy🤷♀️
Makes no difference what we think. Your home, as you say. Your decisions what you want to do with it to make it a cosy, liveable space. It will be great to see you make your mark.xx
Some restore and keep to the original continuity. And, some take a new spin and make their own mark! A bachelor's home, for sure!
Whatever you decide to do Phil, it will be beautiful!
I would like to see your design and colour palette flow through your lovely chateau. What are the features that can contribute to this? The ceilings, the floors, the windows, skirting, cornices, the corridors/hallway and the doors. So if all the skirting and doors and ceiling are white, it creates flow through the building and if all the floors are Oak this contributes that flow. Think about what colour your hallway will be and how that will continue up the stairs to the first floor. The white ceiling, skirting, doors could then continue into your master suite and bathroom and then your choice of a darker colour would work well. Dark blue works well with orange/yellow, or a dark green! I would keep the other room separate and use it as a TV room!
Oh do make that bedroom of beds into a really cosy guest suite and make it light and cheery. Like all your plans for the bachelor pad...
Love your ideas! That “spare” room would be an awesome media room! Good luck. Look forward to seeing progress!
You are making me so happy with all these videos
I love your morning room. So sunny and cheerful!
On suite for family and friends. Lovely. What ever you decide, I'm sure it will be perfect.x
Hi Phil, I love your chateau. Personally I don't like dark rooms but it's your place and you know how you want it. As long as you are happy with it that's all that matters. You have some awesome ideas. Looking forward to seeing your progress. 😊
Make the room into something you absolutely love to do ? Party? Make it a bar, tv movies? Media room, art make it an art room ect …
The storage room, would make nice guest room, with en suite. Especially for your parents.
Ooohhhhhh!💡💡💡💡. Thanks, Phil.
I love the dark blue idea. Can you make the corner room the bathroom so you can walk straight into the dressing room? And then the pink room could be a coffee bar/ what ever you want.
Thanks your pointing out & seeing the plan really helps see how the Chateau is layed out. Very interesting.
Phil, thank you so much for the floor plan and the excellent explanation. Cheers always.
doing a great job Phil! I personally LOVE a huge master bedroom/suite...and may I suggest green as a color scheme because it's considered a "calming" color, but I do like the idea of the dark colors..ya gotta pretty much play around with the colors and guess what?? it's just paint dude, you can always change it-it aint the end of the world another out of the box color would be a deep purple..just a consideration
Yes it is your home and where you are staying. Master suite will look great in dark colours making a nice chilled out space for you ❤
Thanks Phil, for this explanation. I love what you are doing, it’s a lovely Chateau ! Yes, it’s very masculine, but it’s your space! 😊
I think your plans are lovely. Your color scheme of nice navy walls will go nicely with the white doors and gold trim. Actually, more gold accents in the bedroom will be nice. Nice large bathroom-- possible jacuzzi, nice shower, etc. Do it up the way you like it. You can't go wrong.
You're doing great, your right get rid of all those items you dont need, keep a spare room or two for guests
Phil, I really like the idea of turning the now room of beds into a media room!
Chateau La Lande hosted a weekend for chateau owners. They traded furniture they didn’t want anymore and went antiquing together. Maybe you can do that to find a living new home for your extra furniture.
A media room would be really cool, Phil!
I would finish what you are doing with the suites now. Dont worry about the other rooms. Take each day as it comes. You may change your mind or have other ideas along the journey. How exciting for you.
Thank you Phil for the floor plan, it certainly makes it clearer in ones mind. I think you should just call at your home which is what it is and you’re doing it in the style that’s exclusively yours. It looks overwhelming to me so I don’t really have any suggestions sorry. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Well done Phil 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️
