In this my new video of marvel's spider-man: Miles Morales you can see a MOD that introduces Old Peter Face into the game.
This miles morales old peter vs new peter face comparison video was recorded, played and edited completely by me, the video is taken from the PC version of the game.
As we know the first Spider-Man game created by Insomniac Games had peter parker face model John Bubniak, who was replaced by Ben Jordan in the remastered version and Miles Morales.

I thought I had given up on the old face but it is just so so much better. It feels like the emotion in the voice connects with his face so much even when the mocap isnt tuned properly. Truly a loss that Sony forced these changes.

@@8minatoWell we don't have much to go off of for JJ because this is his first appearance where we see his actual face.
The only problem with this is that the facial animations aren't programmed to work with the old face. And yet, even despite that, the old face still looks better.
And they still use the excuse "the new face looks closer to the actor's face so the animations will look better" but now i'm thinking it was just an excuse to make him look like Tom Holland. In Spider-Man Remastered it literally looks like they reduced his facial expressions by 50%. Can't wait for Spider-Man 2 on PC so we can enjoy it with the superior Peter.

How did Insomniac, a AAA game studio, develop, alpha test, beta test, complete and sell a huge title like Spider-Man and only after the fact notice there was an issue that required a full face transplant? Additionally, why did ONLY Peter have an issue that needed full face transplant? They are either not as competent as they would like us believe, or, the face change was for Brand purposes.
The old face just screams iconic to me. Like a true veteran Spider-Man whose stressed and tired all the time. Not at all unattractive but has clearly been through shit. I have admittedly and finally gotten used to the new face after playing SM 1, Miles, AND Spider-Man 2 but will always prefer the original face.

Constantly being under a tremendous amount of stress for a 3rd of your life can age you significantly. And for the flashbacks they could have simply altered it to make him look younger. Shouldn't be a problem for an experienced AAA developer.

Being physically active at all times without resting the body, not having a single good night of sleep because the city is in constant stress, having to go to work (an academy no less) and helping others outside of being spiderman. It's very hard situation that would surely consume one's physical appearance. The new Peter looks like he's still in high school with 0 stress, it just doesn't fit. Furthermore the facial expressions in the original are much more impactful, remastered peter acts like a robot. As for MJ in SM2, they completely changed her from her face model, I got not clue about that one. But she does look 2 decades older than Peter now to the point it's not even funny. OG was somewhat similar to her irl model, the new one is entirely different and much more masculine looking.

Yeah I finished Spider-Man 2 as well and I can agree the new face just still rubs me wrong, which is weird because in the Young Peter missions he actually looks super freaking good, but when hes older he looks so off. He looks very much like how I think Peter Parker should: Reasonably handsome dude, but with an adorkable quality that sells the idea that he used to be an awkward nerd in his teens. The new one is... I dunno, can't quite put my finger on it. It's a perfectly fine face, just looks wrong for the character.
It looks wrong bc this Peter is 24-25yo, constantly exhausted from having to balance 2 seperate lives for 8 years straight, and barely gets any sleep. The old face perfectly reflected that, but the new one looks like his balls dropped yesterday and he's never been tired in his life.

I could see the new face on a Tom Holland-like teen Peter, but considering these games' version of Peter is supposed to be mid-20s and constantly having to deal with being Spider-Man I just can't see it.
That’s the problem: it is *perfectly* fine. It’s not a believable face for someone who’s been getting his ass kicked by a gallery of villains for years while also living the life of a lower middle class high schooler/college student. Old face had imperfections that sold you the idea that this young man, albeit jovial, has been through the ringer more than a few times.
The ps4 face matches his Spider-Man’s body better then the new one since Spider-Man is quite muscular and the ps4 face just looks older and more mature it matches better then the new one who looks like a high schooler with a grown man’s body

My problem is that Peter is suppose to be a nerd guy who was bullied for years in school and still is an outcast even as a adult. The old face fits that almost perfectly, while the new face looks like the son of NY mayor who spend his whole life on party, clubs and vacation with everyone kissing his butt.
Honestly, Jordan's face, when designed from the beginning to be in the game, actually looks pretty good. I will still say that Bubniak's face matches the voice actor better, but the problem with the remaster was they were replacing a face in the exact same scenes. With this came difficulty matching the lighting and facial expressions. So it just didn't look natural. But in Miles Morales, they planned for Jordan to be the face actor for a while, so everything matched up better.
and then Insomniacs SM2 managed to fck that up... its like Insomniac actually has a whole A-team, B-team, XYZ-team on different aspects of their games for Spider-Man... and they're just getting influenced by Sony and Marvel to change things which ruin the experience... i definitely believe that Insomniac was either incompetent or were crunched with their development of SM2 considering the SHEER amount of bugs that is shown in the disc unpatched version of the game aka 1.00 version of the game aka the actual finalised version of the game that is UNCUT in a way

Bubniack's face just looks so much more genuine than Jordan's. The eyes are more expressive and the hair looks much more natural (and believably messy since he's supposed to be in and out of the mask frequently). Jordan's face model looks a bit more stand-off-ish, like his smile is a facade, and I really think it comes down to the eyes and his always fresh-looking cut. It also looks like a straight up BABY face in this cutscene, wow!
Wow, that's absolutely correct. The baby face thing is pretty accurate. It's not a bad face. But 100% looks young-ish. A little bit Asian as well maybe, with the eyelid. And people did find OG to be a solid mix of Tobey, Andrew and Tom's looks (even if it's a real person's face). New one feels like it only has some features like Tom Holland (less so than the older one even) and none from the other two.
He def feels like that face belongs to Flash or Harry, not Peter. Peter needs to feel like hes open to being everyones friend, this guy looks like hes ready to roll his eyes at everyone he talks to

Even though i like the current face and how it's used in Spider-Man 2, I still miss the first face. Not only because I felt that it was a better peter design imo, but also because it just animates and emotes better than the current one.
The original face is infinitely better and my personal headcanon for how Insomniac Spidey looks. He’s my favorite interpretation of the character and the face used originally is so much more fitting.
i cant play the new game. I tried. I just dont connect with 15 year old spiderman talking like he's 26. he never feels like a real person the way PS4 spiderman did. and if i dont connect i can't enjoy the game.

Just pausing it in the beginning so you get the side profile, you notice right away that the hair styles really make a difference. The look and texture from the new face looks off from the rest of the people around him, while the cut makes him look boyish, but the way it sits on the head is completely off. The old hair is slightly back, closer to the ear and blends in better around the neck with the suit, while looking like hair, with more texture and less shaggy feel so as to reduce the light corrections. Funny enough on the PS4 version, the hair on the new face hits back, just as the old hair did, compared to the PS5 version.

The older face is not something I imagined in my head Peter Parker could look like, but is way better than the weird, emotionless face they got on Peter after... Through the story of the first game I grew to love that character and that character had a face. And now it's just... it breaks the immersion... Just pick one and stick with it, Insomniac, don't switch halfway through. It's like in Splinter Cell Blacklist when they couldn't hire Michael Ironside for the voice of Sam Fisher. A little part of me dies every time game devs do shit like this.

New model feels like having have face muscles paralysis, for some reason. You can see that original actor did a great job living through every phrase and word. He knew exactly what he felt. New model is like always taken by a surprise. it lacks emotions and face dynamics. It makes me think about uncanny valley effect - like he never means what he says. Like he is pretending to be someone else and in a minute make a scary face and turn out to be a green goblin or something alike. And God- I was unable to differentiate New Peter from Harry, when I looked a playthrough on KZhead. It is very depressing.
As someone who hasn't played neither version of the game, I must say I much prefer the original look over the remastered one
I know insomniac mentioned that the new face is “here to stay” but I am hoping at some point that maybe they would change their minds and allow us to change the faces in the options menu for each game. If the modding community can do this, then obviously insomniac could do the same thing. We don’t know the future, it might happen.

A big factor in preference is the fact that we felt the emotions through story and gameplay with the first face. Even after beating the second game I still remember the first playthrough of the original, so the new face is distracting to me. It doesn't feel like an older Peter, which is exactly what I liked about the first game. That said, the first game didn't had enough puddles so it sucked

My first time playing Spiderman was with the new face, and in Miles Morales also with the new face, never had seen the old original face until recently so I don't have what some would call the "nostalgia goggles", and I think the old face is way better than the face of the Peter I played with, the og face actually looks like a Peter Parker in his mid 20's, it gave me the "spiderman feel" that the one I played with never gave me unless he had the mask on.
I’ve never even played any of these games and even I prefer the original face.
I will forever say that the first face looks better. I don't care about the bad arguments like "He looks unrealistic." What does that mean they both have real actors. Or arguments like emotions when Spider-Man 1 was obviously made for his face. My point is that no matter what the new one looks like, I can't buy the fact that he was Spider-Man for several years. The old face just looks older. In Spider-Man 2 the new face looks better than in Spider-Man 1 Remasterd but I'm sure the old face would still have been better because he just looks older and I can believe he's been through a lot. Nevertheless, it doesn't matter anyway because we rarely see his face anyway. Although I would rather see the old face. Before anyone come up with "get over it". Everyone has their opinion and that's a good thing.
The new face model still looks too young in my opinion. I never really noticed how old Peter was supposed to be in the first game however i always imagined him to be in his late twentys or around somewhat thirty. Atleast i was always under the impression that he was a little bit older since the game implied that he was around as spider-man for a while and that he and MJ had a longer lasting relationship in "the past". Don´t know where and when this was supposed to be now that he looks this young. Also it kind of took away the impression of this veteran already experienced spider-man now that he looks this young.

A great way to look at it was, before the success of the original they had carte blanche to do whatever. After it became a success and legit contender for a new SM series, sony got involved and we are where we are now.
God I miss the old face, what I loved is that he was sort of a call back to original comics Peter and kinda also looks like the Peter from the 90s animated series which I loved as a kid.
Even after playing SM1 Remastered and Miles Morales to get used to the current version of Peter’s face it still amazes me what they did with PS4 version of him, he actually looks like an experienced and tired Peter Parker who has gone through a lot in life and keeps giving his best even in the worst moments

Old face actually made me feel like I was playing as an experienced Spiderman, years into his journey. New face is overgrown 14 year old.
The new face is a graphical upgrade, but as an actual design, the old face is loads better. Its a unique design that’s perfect for an experienced & slightly worn down Peter.
Jordan was probably the most expressive in this scene. But, even in a MOD, the winner is Bubniak.

Love em both, they grew on me. I heard Insomniac really changed the face due to Mocap issues with the old face not matching Yuri's, cuz Yuri also did mocap for the first game. And they chose the new face cuz he looks alot more like Yuri in Facial Structure. But hey, that's what I heard

There’s something comforting about the old face model. Like, they’re mature enough to handle business no questions asked.
