Fox Sports’ lead college football analyst Joel Klatt gives his thoughts on Michigan after broadcasting their Spring Game and being around the program over the last week. He discusses the approach new Head Coach Sherrone Moore is taking in the post-Harbaugh era at Michigan. Klatt also points out players that stood out in the Spring Game and discusses the QB battle in Ann Arbor as the Wolverines replace J.J. McCarthy. He also takes a look at the gauntlet that the defending champs will face as they will take on 3 teams that could very well start in the Preseason Top 5 in Oregon, Ohio State and a Texas game on September 7th that will be televised on BIG NOON SATURDAY on FOX.

Olu Oluwatimu was a better center than Nugent- Nugent was a downgrade and it showed early in the season, but he stepped up and helped the team to a natty. Ronnie Bell, at the time, was a better receiver than Roman Wilson, but Wilson continued to develop and came up big in 2023. The 2023 team is the one that won it all. On paper, a lot of these guys look like downgrades from the 2023, but if they rise to the occasion, who knows? I believe in '19 and '20 Don Brown felt the heat and changed his scheme to a lot more zone coverage while still blitzing a whole bunch. And that didn't work either. Michigan's best chance with a Don Brown defense was 2016 when JT was short.

Meanwhile, Orji will practice lots of read option and will get 20-30% of snaps: - red zone / inside the 10 - 3rd and short - as change of pace Jaden Davis redshirts. • I like this take except I still think Orji has a legitimate shot at being the full-time starter if he continues to progress in the offseason. Especially if we can’t get more receivers/pass protection is suspect with a whole new offensive line, Orji’s special athleticism could be more valuable than a polished passer.

      @henrysprague6764@henrysprague676422 күн бұрын
    • @@henrysprague6764 The problem with that, as the last MGoBlog podcast discussed, is that we would have to change the system to optimize Orji (single wing, plenty of rpo's with live reads), and don't really have anyone to back him up in that unicorn role. If we could get s. o. like the Bama qb as no2, things would be different, but going with Orji as the full time starter this year is just too much of a gamble on him not getting injured despite very heavy use in the run game.

The individuals have all been hanging around the same locker room for years now in some way or other. So, while the faces have changed, the individuals haven't much changed and that's the magic there. The kids are going to work their butts off for Moore. They love him. And one thing that last year did in that crucible of suspensions and missing coaches was teach the players they are the team and they carry the program. It's going to be glorious, win or lose.

Yes, it’s a high profile game whose winner will have a leg up over the competition when the 12 teams are selected for the playoffs. • Michigan has a brutal schedule in 2024, they will be challenged and battle hardened by the end of the season. Replacing 10 starters on offense is the glaring task. If they figure it out with game experience but they are possibly going to drop a game somewhere on that schedule , expect that but their defense absolutely needs to carry the team especially early in the season till the offense gets it's identity through games. Any players can look good in practice and drills but let's see how they do when it's live and real. If they make the playoffs that would be a major accomplishment. Just don't know with this team could be 9-4 or only 1 loss or undefeated it's really going to be interesting for us Michigan fans.

Warren was impressive during the spring game but in a real game last year wasn’t that great. Maybe they give Orji, Warren and Tuttle all a chance against Fresno State but will have to have a guy for the Texas game. Their first 5-6 games are at home.

  • But Joel, all of those players and many of those coaches exhibiting that culture are all gone. Add to this the fact that the schedule is much more difficult and there is no way they can reduplicate that success. But even more important is no JJ McCarthy and nothing remotely close(and Jack Tuttle is not HIM). All good opponents will do is stack the box and cover the WRs one -on -one. I doubt UM is better than 8-4 or 9-3 at best. This is not good enough to make the playoffs.

It's a deterioration of traditions, of rivalries and probably of the game itself. Those of us who once loved our local university and their underdog chances NOW just realize that we were un-consulted, and unimportant. Our loyalty to schools and teams who have no loyalty of any kind to US was a last straw for many of us.
