I've been so tempted by this stuff. My kid is getting into sculpting lately and I think this would be so useful for learning and practicing with. You sold me on in it. I think either Santa or myself might be bringing it this year...
I've tried it as a newbie, and it is great. I am trying to figure out how to make a mold
@@Jynnifer Robert Tolone has some absolutely excellent videos on mold making, i would suggest checking them out
Monster Clay has been a game changer for me in sculpting figures for my cuckoo clocks. I'm able to sculpt a size in which I can attain detail, then I scan and 3D print any size I want. For the Bald Eagle cuckoo for my Old Glory Cuckoo Clock I could never have carved an eagle head like that at such a tiny size. I came to You Tube to look for tips on smoothing the clay as I'm working on a family for a Stuckey's Cuckoo Clock. Your tips helped me tremendously. I'm so grateful for your video!
Hi! Tell me please do you have some problems with transportation to the scanner? Is the sculpture not damaged?
You could also try digitally scanning the finished sculpture and doing a clean up in a 3D program. People provide those types of services. Then you wouldn't be damaging your original.
2:13 that one is stunning, what a beautiful form
Thank you!
More Monster Clay tutorials. Thanks.
I think is one of the best purchases I ever made. Thanks, medium works perfectly ❤ Hugs from Ireland
Yahooo! It’s the best!
I’ve been using Monster Clay for years and LOVE it. That said, I use a hot box I made with a lamp to warm the clay instead of using a microwave or oven. Because I believe they make it like a soup if you get distracted. I also use a alcohol lamp for my tools to smooth the clay out for amazing details. All in all, Monster Clay rocks!
Great tips!
Hey I've been thinking about buying, the one question I got is how does it dry? Will it always be that little bit soft or does it harden?
I'm so sorry for not responding earlier, as I've been traveling oversees and am not online a lot when I travel. But, Monster clay never dries, because it's a oil-based elastic clay, similar to wax. But there are 3 different grades of hardness, Soft, Medium and Hard.@@skygameslife2579
very informative video. thanks for the wisdom.
Appreciate your tips especially about the 3 ways to smooth it. Very helpful! Thank you!
Your are fantastic. I wish I had your talent. I love clay molding. Is like bringing dreams alive. Tks for all your information in your videos. Keep them coming.❤
Really helpful Video thanks 🙏🏽
Thank you for the wonderful list of very useful links, uncommon these days.

extremely helpful vid, thank you 😊
You're welcome!
Very insightful! Thank you

Just came across your video, nice info. I used monster clay just once and didn't know much about it at all, so it still sitting there. Now I can do a something ha. Thank you
You are most welcome!
I been using Monster clay medium for a few years now. I make Michael Myers masks and other Horror types. I like that i can reuse it after i take it out of my mold. Saves money .
FIVE STARS,,, thannnnnnnk you,,,, EXCELLENT :)
xem bạn làm rất tuỵệt vời ,hay lắm ,
Have you ever tried mixing the hard and medium, or brown and gray, to see what color and consistency comes out of it? I've done that with super sculpey and sometimes get some useful blends for certain types of projects.
My man, I don't have OCD but after reading your question my OCD was triggered
I got some monster clay today.
I would like to get a static dinosaur model and cast it to make a stop motion figure…I can get the armature but am clueless about the casting process, my expertise so far is in static model kits (tanks, planes, ships etc) any advice please?
All you have to do is put it under a lightbulb and reflector and it will stay soft. Not microwave needed!
Super informative thank you! Seeing this I wonder why the soft or even medium version exist, right? I mean if you can soften it for molding, don’t you want your shape to hold as much as possible once you’re done shaping? And then if you want to make any modifications you just soften it up again with heat. So it seems like getting the hard version is a no-brainer. Or am I missing something?
Yeah I’m not sure, I had the same question. The soft is very soft. Maybe for people with weaker hands? I’m sure there is a use somewhere.
I have only used air dry clay and am about to use the Hard grey monster clay. Can you explain how it works if you sculpt over a few days and want to change something that is already cooled on the sculpture (like if you wanted your horses leg to be bent more) could you just use a blow dryer to warm it a little and then rebend the sculpt or would the surface just get soft and the leg be stuck in the position it was? (or maybe even snap off)
That’s exactly what you would do yes! A hair dryer is just enough heat to soften it nicely. A torch or a heat gun would make things really gooey. It’s wonderful stuff that way, that it’s able to be modified.
Saya dari Indonesia. Dimana saya bisa membeli monster clay dan bagaimana caranya. 🙏🏿
I've heard of monster clay but never tried it. Thanks for the tips Darynn. 🙂👍
Hi... i think that you should by old dentist tools on a fleamarket. They are sturdy and made for this type of action. I am personally not a big fan of these alluminum tools. By the way.... nice Vid.
Can you change the colors somehow before it's finished. I kinda hate If you can see that it's painted at the end
Supposedly you can paint it. It is a bit fragile though.
Tell me, please, if I will sculpt from “hard”, how strong is the finished figure? I need to transport it for scanning. Is it really possible to do this? Maybe I need to cool it down a lot or put something cold next to it and take it in a refrigerator bag by taxi to the scanner? I am afraid that the details will be destroyed 👀
I use Medium, and it stays firm, but definitely melts quickly in the heat. It’s easy to knick & dent. The Hard would be better. You would want to package the sculpture in a manner that allows nothing to touch it.
@@DeeJayBeStudiosthank you so much ❤
Does it harden?
it "hardens" as needed for mold making but does not harden in the way air-dry clay would. it's meant to be used over again so it retains flexibility. when heated it's stretchy and firms up when cold
Does it harden though?
It hardens enough to handle when cool, but can be reheated to use again furthermore.
@DeeJayBeStudios but I can't necessarily make a permanent sculpture correct?
Im wondering the same thing. Whats the point of clay that never hardens? What if u wanted to sculpt something to spray paint and put up in your room. Would u not be able to do that with this clay? Or should i just use air dry clay instead?
@@angiet9801 from what I’ve gathered from other videos, it doesn’t harden permanently, but enough that one could make a silicone mold - though that is very pricy
CIY
You should be using a dedicated microwave oven . Using the same oven as you cook your food in is not recommend as residue is left in oven and contaminats food .
I have a dedicated microwave for this clay now, but Monster Clay is non toxic & considered Food Grade.
Is the packaging some sort of commentary on Star Trek characters? Its called Monster Clay, and the character that is largest on the packaging is Spock. It can't be a copyright thing or anything, because vampires or werewolves aren't trademarked properties. They just hate Spock. Highly illogical.
That’s a question for Monster Makers
that music was extremely frustrating and annoying
Sorry.
Thank you for a wonderful, informative video. Unfortunately it is spoiled by a dreadful soundtrack which overwhelms your voice. What a shame!
I’m sorry you feel so passionately about that, try to ignore it! I do try to limit the audio I use in my future videos.
1:50 you're not making sense here.
