Tham Erawan is in Baan Pha In Plang, Wang Thong Sub-district. This is the hard rock mount that people call Phu Pha Tham Chang.
The cave is on the hard rock mountain which looks like the crouching elephant from the far distance while looking like its forehead if seeing from the cliff.
Erawan Cave is the large cave with the 600 curve steps from the foothill to the entrance. The huge Buddha at the entrance is stunning if viewed from a distance.
Inside the cave is the large hall that is mentioned in the folk tale “Nang Phom Hom”, with the stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Previously, this cave named “Tham Chang” after the mountain name, Pha Tham Chang.
Phra Kru Palad Pun Paresako pursued people to construct the temple, which later called Wat Tham Chang, at the stairs to the cave.
At the cave roof, there are three star chimneys where the light shines through.
Then, it is the rock in the shape of sitting elephant. The legend says that the elephant died and cursed itself to be the rock. Besides, there are many shapes of rocks such as nang Phom Hom rock, Hed Hin, and Ang Hin.
