July 4, 2012: The Day That Killed The Minnesota Wild

2019 ж. 10 Ақп.

It was supposed to be the start of a golden age for Minnesota hockey. An end to their years of futility after a surprise playoff run almost ten years earlier. Signing the two best free agents on the market had the area dreaming of the Stanley Cup again.
Sadly, reality rarely works out as planned. The two players that were thought to have taken them over the top haven't had the significant impact they desired. The two have helped to bring the Wild back to the playoffs, but nothing further.
Competing, but not a true contender. This is the woe of the Minnesota Wild, a team locked into two terrible contracts for many more years to come. A team that can't supplement their core with talents to take them over the top. A team that is flirting with the irrelevance that they sought to overcome.
This video's a little different than the usual fare. Just figured I'd change things up a bit. Keep it "fresh".
"Fun" fact: This video slot was originally going to be a video about the Philadelphia Flyers. Winning nine of ten games kinda puts those plans on hold. Only fair.

    • I'm a Wings fan so I'm obviously a little biased but I expected them to come to Detroit. Suter could have taken assumed a position in the top defensive pairing with Lindstrom retiring and Parise would have been able to work with Datsyuk and Zetterberg as his centers. It made a lot of sense so I was disappointed when they both went to the Wild. When I saw the contracts though I figured the Wings dodged a bullet. They probably did but would go on to find other ways to fuck things up for the rest of the decade.

The Wild are spending nearly 15 million for two people who aren't on the team. And it's likely gonna get worse because Zach Parise might retire (I loved him as an Islander). • @@michaellipinski8758 all I'm going to say is that last year the jackets inability to defend the counter attack and being too aggressive offensively was the reason that Columbus got just two wins against Washington. That and Washington putting in grubauer. The problem with Columbus has been that and should they switch up to something else I could see them force a game seven and perhaps actually winning the first round series. Another concern though is that torts is too stubborn to change anything and may continue as is.

      @bluejacket9129@bluejacket91295 жыл бұрын
    • @@bluejacket9129 The jackets also didn't get timely saves consistently. it was the same problem they had against Pittsburgh both times. Plus Washington switching to a reinvigorated Holtby gave them a spark. That said, the Jackets were a post away from going up 3-0 and probably winning the series. That single instant changed the entire playoffs. By the way, in case you couldn't tell, I'm a Flyers fan.

  • Honestly, even though those two contracts are looking pretty rough, Suter and Parise have consistently played well and continue to do so. The wild failing is mostly due to them never being bad enough for a lottery pick, and lacking more offence to put them over the top. It was a case of management and owners being too satisfied with themselves when there was still evidently more work to be done. What a shame- coming from a leafs fan

  • This is a little more subdued then your other videos. I kind of like the tone of this one though. I actually think you enjoy the hockey videos the best. It shows! I get the feeling that you can easily sympathize with the thought process of the general managers in this situation. I feel that you can appreciate the risk they took. Unfortunately for the wild, it didn't pan out for them. Terrific professional distance without sounding like a hack. I think you stumbled onto something truly artistic in your voice here. Please keep up the good work. I'm not even a hard hawk hockey fan and even I enjoy this.

    • Issue is: They’re in a minefield of mistakes. They’re gonna have to give up their 1st and possibly 2nd this year or next year for Seattle to take Rask. They’re gonna have to sign these players, and thanks to the $15M into Suter and Parise + Zucc’s contract, they may lose an important piece. They aren’t good enough to get by the likes of Colorado or Vegas

      @sawyertuide7636@sawyertuide76363 жыл бұрын
    • @@sawyertuide7636 First off the Wild have 2 1st round picks this year thanks to the Zucker deal so it wouldnt be too bad to give Seattle a 1st. Second why would they even give up a pick for them to take Rask? The worst that could happen is they take Dumba and his $6M cap hit and im not expecting nearly as many deals with Seattle to protect players because of how badly that backfired for teams that did that with Vegas. If Minnesota can play things right im conifident they can build a legit contending team even with Parises contract

      @JP-qm9up@JP-qm9up3 жыл бұрын
    • @@JP-qm9up Dumba is an important piece on the defense, though, and Suter won’t waive his NMC. 2021 is weak, and you got that JR pick from the Pens. You guys have a decent prospect pool, which you shouldn’t give up any of them cuz we know how that went the last time, and 2022 is a much better draft. I think giving up your 1st 2 picks for SEA to take Rask is your best bet.

      @sawyertuide7636@sawyertuide76363 жыл бұрын
    • @@sawyertuide7636 Theyll probably end up doing something like that, however I think theyd be ok letting Dumba go since they have other dmen such as Spurgeon Suter Brodin and even Addison, and then using that freed up cap space to address other needs. We'll see what they do though
