  • yeah, another difference is that in the book, Kate was socialising with Penelope quite a bit and it was so cute because they bonded over "not being the most wanted girls". Unfortunately, this connection is not developed in the show and a part of a cute conversation between them about Penelope's dress was borrowed for the interaction between Penelope and Edwina.

    • I think that connection was made with Eloise instead.

    • Anthony saved Penelope's night by dancing with her. Kate sees that and that's when she realizes the rake is probably not as bad as Lady Whistledown's description. Later in her book, Penelope reminisces that scene and that Kate told her "that was the time he made me fell for him". Well, I guess we won't see this reference in season 4.

  • Daphne/Simon being forced to marry creates tension because Simon doesn’t WANT to marry her. “Forcing” Kate and Anthony to marry would have absolutely killed all tension because they desperately want each other (plus, not gonna lie, “sucking the venom out on a wound that just so happens to be on her bosom” is just a little bit too contrived to be enjoyable). I know a lot of people hated that the reworked Kanthony love story kiiiind of turned them into villains for screwing over Edwina, but I actually enjoyed it for how realistic it was. Not all characters can be perfect. I enjoyed a love story we rooted for despite its flaws, despite also loving Edwina.

      @rizkamirlina1248@rizkamirlina12482 жыл бұрын
    • So true. They have eight episodes of one hour long and they don't dive into Kate's trauma? I felt a little bit disappointed. I'm not saying that they should have replicated literally the library scene (though I know fans were demanding it); but I think it would have suited Kate's character to show some of her weaknesses. It could also have helped to explain her obsession with settling her sister. She behaves with Edwina as a second mother because, as an orphan, she grew up too early. And she loves her so dearly because she does not have an extended family. And family or the lack of it is a recurring topic in most Bridgerton books. Many of the Bridgerton siblings end up marrying men or women without family or with very reduced or wicked ones. They welcome them into their lively, big and caring Bridgerton family. And I think that's beautiful.

  • They keep mentioning a love triangle, but I felt like there was more an appearance of one than an actual conflict. Edwina didn't seem to have real feelings for Anthony in the show, it was more like she was in love with the idea of being charmed by a handsome viscount. I get why they wanted to differentiate between season 1 and season 2 plots, but I feel like it kind of cheapened Anthony and Kate's characters. In the show, Anthony is flirting with and even proposing to someone he knows he doesn't are for despite having feelings for her sister. Then, Kate is listening to her sister talk about her feelings for Anthony, and literally minutes after Edwina realizes their feelings at the wedding, Kate's like, "well, she knows now, so we might as well go for it" with no thought to her sister's feelings. I also hate how bratty they make Edwina after the botched wedding, who gets over herself in about 10 minutes after Kate recovers. In the book, Edwina never even pretended to have feelings for Anthony, she simply knew her obligation to marry well so mom/sister would be taken care of. And she was actually relieved when Kate and Anthony had to marry because 1) she wasn't an idiot and saw the chemistry between them, and 2) she was now free to pursue who she really wanted- an academic with no fortune.

    @wanderer7956@wanderer79562 жыл бұрын
    • ahhh i was saying thisss!!! ik the goal was to make Edwina less of a prop but imo she became more of one here? they villainized the main characters too :// also it wasn't a typical love triangle bc there was no appeal to it that a typical one might occasionally grant... this one was just not useful and made Edwina seem ignorant where she could have been more aware.

      @diya5960@diya59602 жыл бұрын
    • I agree with you when you say that the Kate and Anthony in the book would never ever betray Edwina in that way. And I think the worst to blame is Kate, as Anthony is a newcomer. The love she feels for her sister in the book would never allow her to lie, not only once, but twice. First, not admitting her true feelings for her sister's fiancée; second, not telling her about the dowry. But, after all, I understand why the showrunners decided to change the plot. Not only for not repeating the same "forced-to-marry" twist, but also because it spiced things up. And we have to bear in mind that the show modernizes de books in many ways. It happens with the clothes, with feelings, with manners... So, why not? We would never read about an Eloise mingling with a commoner as she does with Theo. No matter how open-minded she might be. So, with a modern view, it does not feel so wrong that Anthony and Kate behaved the way they did. After all, they never even kiss until after the wedding is called off. And the tension between them is the best feature of the whole season. So, overall, I am quite content.

      @xayideenguivuck390@xayideenguivuck3902 жыл бұрын
    • I absolutely agree! I think that make Kate so much like a brat, headstrong but ultimately stupid woman (not telling her mother about the dowry/ not tellin her sister about the dowry/ continue cross path with Anthony) and Anthony a douche (purposing to Edwina but keep saying things to Kate). Most of the time when Kate wants to do Sth, she fails (direction to the house, shooting), which just make her complaints whiny. Edwina just sounds like a straight A student who got an A- and rant about how she won’t get into college half of the time. I really dislike the main characters and like the books a lot more. In the book, Kate is actually very sensible, cautious, and independent.How Anthony came to realize he needs to allow love in his life also make more sense. I get why the show runner pursuit this tract, but I think sisterly love without competition of a man is really just more refreshing than love triangle that’s been played out over and over again on TV.

    • Well this was exactly why I didn’t like this season as much. Personally I hate it when films or series stray away from the og story in the books. Usually it’s a “cheaper” story too…. (And I haven’t even read the books) I personally disliked also that they “brown washed” the characters. It’s not likely for that era to have that many interracial marriages and most people not even mentioning it. There’s too many modern twists for me to really say this show is excellent. Would’ve preferred to have it more true to time. Instead of just basicly transforming it to a weird out of this World Series where none of it could’ve actually happened. The whole part where he actually had a wedding with edwina and then still proceeded to have intimacy with Kate and propose only after would’ve never even happened either…. Verry shameful actions

In the book, you get to see the couple grow together and work through really traumatic experiences they have both shared and eventually fall in love. This season sacrificed a lot of character development for side plots that felt like time we could have spent with the leads. If you compare last season and how much time the show focused on Daphne and Simon, I think we got way less time with the leads this season. There was a funny scene with Newton that got cut, but I could go on and on about changes to the book. The writers for this season pretty much threw the book out the window after episode 3. I really wish we got more payoff for the slow burn we watched, so we could have had at least 2 episodes with the couple being happy together.

I think Kate and Anthony are great together in the show but the love triangle was highly irritating, especially when Kate and Anthony started sneaking around while Anthony and Edwina were ENGAGED.

  • I think that the scenes in the show were not enough but, they were amazing. The book focused purely on Kanthony however, the show was distracted by a lot of sub-plot. I think both of them were amazing on their own merit but, the show leaves me hungry for more. Moreover, the love triangle was in essence, not a triangle. Kate and Anthony were always drawn together, but Edwina was not chosen but, something akin to being hired by Anthony. The speech he gave her was also partly fueled by the passionate display he saw from Kate proclaiming he must marry her sister, that feelings would pass and were not of much import. On the other side, Kate was swimming in denial and she truly thought Edwina loved Anthony and, was ready to sacrifice her happiness. The last point, I think is of the utmost importance - Edwina did not know the Viscount at all. What she knew was a facade he put on to woo her. The only time Anthony was genuine when Edwina was concerned was in the poetry gathering

Edwina is more than a side character, Anthony and Kate actually choose each other freely, there is historical reference to India at a time when the British were still colonizing the place so they did interact a lot albeit with very imbalanced power dynamics much of the time due to colonialism, and it left a lot of room for further development of their love and connection for future seasons as well. If we had to lose Simon (still crying over that one) at least we will get to see Anthony and Kate together in the future

Forcefully married after the scene of the bi at she feels like that he is just marrying out of publication that he would never marry me he does not feel passion for me when he is trying to be intimate with that is so low when I read that so good in the book that they both marriage other because they both at that time love each other it so beautiful. Or, is this something which waa a Netflix addition? Why would Violette name the child she is pregnant with, while her husband dies in her arms, after the flower that had the bee on it which killed him??!! Why would she have named the baby Hyacinth based on the trauma of her husband dying in her arms? Or, is it possible Violette did not realize the bee was on the flower and saw it lying next to her husband after her died and named her daughter after it as a last memory. I would have loved the season more. What I didn't and have a lot of questions on is. Are they going straight into Penelope and Collins season or book and skipping Benedict's for season 3. Cause if they do that, that would be so bad. The book does a seven year time jump. After Benedict's book, if they skip his book are they still going to do the time jump and if they do. That would change dramatically the rest of the siblings story. And if they don't, it would still change so much for the rest of the siblings. • This is the rare occasion when the show is actually fuller and riper than the book. Of course, there was no time to explore every detail about the main characters, but it still feels somewhat more sophisticated. The book is great for the dialogues and for exploring Kate and Anthony psychologically, sex scenes as well, but suddenly there’s a feeling that the author had no more time or no more place to write. So, it was all quickly shut down. Anthony’s biggest fear of falling in love is resolved within a few seconds, just like that, very simple. Doesn’t work like that. The carriage accident is a bit pathetic too. I prefer the horse accident. Good thing about the book: Anthony is a charmer, true womanizer, but we do not see much of it in the show, only him being obsessed with his duties. Anyway, a lot more tension in the show rather that in the book. Thanks to creative crew for having written such a good scenario.

  • Just an FYI: The word "viscount" pronounced "vai-kownt." The "s" is silent. Same with viscountess.

  • Kate in the books was annoying at times especially when she said the word rake like 100 times in one chapter. He's a rake, you're a rake, every man is a rake rake. Talking to Colin you're a rake like your brother. Like damn we get it she was worried about her sister but how many times in one book could she say the word rake. That got annoying along with most of books when all the men are like I have to make it good for her. By the time I got to the final book before the couple have sex, I am like I know you have to make it good for her.
