  • My first iOS device was an iPod Touch 2nd gen that I got for christmas 2008. Upgraded to a 4th gen a couple years later and then got a iPhone 4S in 2012. Now I'm using a 12 Pro and getting the 15 Pro soon. It's been wild to watch iOS and the hardware evolve from the first versions to what it is today. I was an iOS early adopter and I'll ride this OS until the end.

    @arjan1995@arjan1995 Жыл бұрын
    • The 5th gen I am 100% sure he used coolbooter. The 1st and 2nd gen can easily be downgraded to any version of iOS by using an old windows xp/vista/7 paired with an old version of itunes because back then signing and unsigning ios wasn’t a thing just yet. About the third gen you can only downgrade it to 4.1 using the method described above for anything else you will need blobs

  • Its such a shame Apple is changing. They killed the iPod Touch which was a big nostalgic charm to Apple users. Apple Devices today don't have the charm as they used to.

    @CoolGuest_HD@CoolGuest_HD Жыл бұрын
    • They kind of had to kill the IPod Touch :/ It’s a legendary device in its status, but in its use it’s a niche. My younger siblings wouldn’t stay too interested in a smaller screen like that, since they’re more accustomed to an iPad or a phone with a bigger screen. And if I were to use it nowadays it would probably be for jogging outside since it’s so much lighter in the pocket than having a 12 Pro Max per se, that’s also considering that I downloaded what I wanted to listen to wether it be music or a podcast. So yeah, it’s just so niche that it doesn’t make sense to have, unless for nostalgia or as a collector.

    • Listen, i know a lot of people are nostalgic for the ipod touch, but right after the ipod touch was discontinued i talked about it with an apple store employee and they said they hadn't even managed to sell one in years. It was more expensive that a cheap Android phone while having a smaller display, and let's be honest even if you're buying it for a kid, the 1000mah battery will be very limiting compared to the 4000-5000mah batteries on cheap phones (which cost half as much). The ipod touch needed to either significantly evolve or die, and sadly there wasn't really a place for it in apple's lineup

    • Yes I understand! But t started not getting that popular! So if they just kept making new ones it would somehow get boring and they do have a chance of getting bankrupt! They do have a chance too rise up with an iPod touch or iPod but it could take awhile and by the time they get there, they might be bankrupt! And people would move to android! It’s a dangerous game! Especially for more than $1 million company! It’s basically just juggle! Have an amazing day! ❤❤❤❤

I actually got a iPod Touch 7 (256gb) just for a music player when I‘m out and about and don‘t want to be disturbed. It‘s so small and light weight … I love it. I also use it a lot when traveling out of the country (where I don‘t want to use roaming … so I really don‘t need a phone) I have all my music and photos … plus Messages and Facetime. You’re right … it did kinda suck that they used a really outdated processor in it though … I think that hurt sales. I also noticed that my iPod 7 has really kept it‘s resale value … kinda crazy!

  • Ohh man…I was in high school when my mind was blown away by the iPod touch. It was around 2008 and that’s the last time a tech device made me drop my jaw in shock of what was in my hand. Sure, the iPhone was out already….but I didn’t even have a phone and most people I knew didn’t have a phone. One of my friends got iPod touch in freshman year and he let me borrow it for a day and I couldn’t believe what this thing could do. I could buy/download songs/games directly from the device without connecting it to my computer. At the time it was faster to browse the internet on the iPod touch than on my home computer. Eventually, I got my own iPod touch which I believe was the 3rd gen. To this day, I have yet to feel that feeling of shock again. I’ll never forget this device. I retired my iPod touch when I got iPhone 5S.

Then a few years later after the battery gave out, in 2010 I used my last paycheck from my first job to purchase the 4th Gen 8 GB Touch (Black). I used that pretty much primarily for music, gaming and Internet until losing it in Spring 2019! In the fall of that year I really missed my music so I took the Apple plunge with Iphone 7 (32 gb Black)! Fast forward to Spring 2022 and I upgraded to Iphone 13 ProMax.

After purchasing an iPod in 2005 I was and thought you had to have an Apple labtop in order to work it so bought PowerBook 4 . I’m a little sad they’re the ending the line for the reasons you mentioned. I don’t know why I just like having a device dedicated to music and audio books. Where I can’t be disturbed or be temtpted to get online with one click of a button getting off airplane mode and check one message and then totally disrupt my quiet time I was having. Also maybe I s the conspiratorial side of my. Which is probably just my own silliness. That with the iPod only and my phone left at home. I feel like I can’t be tracked. Lol or something. Just curious. You seem to be pretty knowledgeable. As far as the hardware in the iPod touch. Do you think they would last longer than or less long than an iPhone. It taking care of. I’ve heard people talking about the hardware in the iPhone 13 giving the ability to last for years or something like that. Even though again the conspiracy side comes out of me and sometimes I think Apple plants bugs in the phones so they self destruct or something. Anyways getting off topic . Thanks for the video man

I always thought it was cool that they found a use for the iPod touch since it didn't need a celular plan since it was always on a WiFi network. Since apple doesn't make the iPod touch anymore, they probably have to spend more money on iphones and will have to toss the scanner cases since it would not fit.

I am a bit nostalgic towards them, but it was a good call to cut them as a iPhone is better in every way and looking back I could have got a iPhone 5s way back then instead of my iPod for a similar price and would be a much better device

  • What you didn't call out was that when they finally did release the app store on the iPod Touch 1st Gen it required a "paid for app store" software update. You couldn't get the app store unless you basically paid for the $20USD software update. Basically paid DLC to expand the capability.

  • If I knew how to heavily mod a device, I would make the iPod touch 1 have a bigger battery and have 2TB of storage and a 256GB iPod touch 7 have the iPod touch 5 cameraless design chassis and a bigger battery

    @LuisAngelSantos@LuisAngelSantos Жыл бұрын
    • Why is the battery so small anyway? Like, I get it’s a small device, but the first iPhone from 2007, which is smaller, mind you, has a bigger and better battery, no excuses.

      @Dr-Random@Dr-Random9 ай бұрын
    • cause higher capacity batteries were really exspensive and they were probably using the smaller ones to make the ipod cheaper, that and the iphone is a phone so its used more hence more battery needed

  • Wow! It was nice to see a comparison between products. thank you I have a question, can I move the home screen icons by touch & drag on the touch 1st generation? And I wonder if release during drag will return to original icon position. I wonder if the same technology as the 2nd generation of touch was applied in the 1st generation.

My last Apple device was the iPod touch 5th gen (with camera) and I basically used it to game and stream music. Yes I was a child. I thought my next device would be an iPhone but the iPhone 7 made me lose interest entriely, especially when looking at what Samsung was doing, which is my go-to today.

  • Written July 25, 2022 My iPod touch 5 is still working fine 10 year from its debut in 2012, Aside from it only being slow 2-4 seconds when opening apps, going to Safari or watching KZhead, it works fine Can’t really download Netflix or any streaming apps as it’s 10 years old but the Ps2 games I downloaded yesterday, which is 9 out of 12 for even future ps2 games like 2016s Jade Empire and Bully, says this iPod was really powerful in gaming.. probably more so than the actual ps2 console The old quote reins true: you don’t know what you got until you lost it. Oh and the iPod touch 7 can run iOS 16.

    • @@HammMannit’s like the iPod is *the* definition of “hero-to-zero”. It started off with smooth sailing, but it didn’t take long before it hit a sandbar and was swept into the Niagara Falls of obscurity, where it may forever remain. It’s quite sad that it only took slightly over 20 years to go from what seemed unstoppable, to what seems unrevivable. It’s like it can’t be resuscitated anymore, it’s just completely dead. I would wager that the iPod touch will continue to be very popular for old iOS and jailbreaking for the foreseeable future. The iPod touch is like the best friend of the jailbreaking community. It’s like it was made to be jailbroken, it’s almost not even funny. The iPod was an absolute icon in jailbreaking and just the tech industry in general. But we don’t think that way now. Just 10 years ago, the first generation iPad Air was launched, with its brand new design with the brand new modern design of iOS 7. We thought that was *so cool.* We still used iPods, back when the nano and shuffle were still being manufactured and released. Here we are, 10 years after the fact, and the iPod is completely dead and the iPad Air has been declared obsolete, along with the Thunderbolt Display, meaning Apple stopped selling them over 7 years ago, in 2016, and they are no longer eligible for repairs, e.g. screen/battery replacement, broken physical buttons, like the home button. You can likely still repair these items elsewhere, but not at an Apple Store. It’s honestly amazing to just go back 10 years ago, back when we thought iOS 7 was cool, and the iPhone 4 got it, and compare what was top-of-the-line a decade ago to the trendiest of trendy today. We advanced so much in such a small timeframe, like in the early days of iPhone, where each year saw a significant upgrade over the last one, consecutively, year over year, consistently, without fail. But now, over 16 years later, we don’t really get all that excited over a new iPhone. Why? Because we expect it at this point. We know it’s gonna come out, and we sometimes can even accurately predict when, like, down to the day of launch. We have seriously made significant progress, and we’ll see where this all-new wallet-disintegrating piece of technology called the Vision Pro will take us in the next 10 years. In 2033, we’ll be looking at 2023 like we do 2011 now. I call it wallet-disintegrating because one, just one, not like 5 of them, costs $3,500. The iPhone 89 pro max plus air pro mini pro max will probably cost twice as much when that launches in the year 2096/2097.

But the iPod touch stayed with me. I even remember I would take my iPhone with me, but my iPod touch would stay hooked into my living room stereo so when I would get home, I could just press play and enjoy my music. And yes I did jailbreak that sucker.
