Mario Kart 8 Deluxe booster course pass wave 3 introduced custom item mode allowing for a ridiculous blue shell only game mode. I've been putting this idea off for quite a while but with wave 5 rolling around... it was finally time.

  • challenge idea: you should try a regular mario kart grand prix with CPUs, but you have to get any one of the CPUs to score a perfect 60 - could do it in mk8, but i think mkwii random custom tracks might be more interesting

    • Believe it or not, MK8DX actually has a mechanic in it where it will auto-pick a racer to mimic your skill level. Meaning if you're in 1st, they're likely in 2nd and unless you accidentally cross the line, it's much easier

    • Still better than red shells in DS, which would go around your held items and turn around and hit you from the front if you somehow get them to pass you.

  • I did my best to count the Blue Shell Dodges here from I-frames, and I counted at least 47 visible ones. The most in one I-frame window was 6.

    • @@ghostbaconhair i like the calmer side too, but there was a lot of times when he was being emotive in the videos but him always being stuck in the corner took away from the comedic impact. One thing i really find funny in this video is when he was repeatedly going back and forth for the coins, and the camera just slowly zooming in on his face. It was still calm but just added that nice little comedic effect that made me laugh a bit

    • Further on the point I made about the older videos, i dont think he should cut the races down. But even though its mario kart, there isnt always action going on, personally i feel like his videos leaning more onto his sometimes chaotic personality just adds a tasteful touch to what we have been getting for so many videos

  • When I was much younger, like 6th grade, me and my brothers would play Mario kart 64, a lot. If we would play battle on Block Fort we made a rule to immediately fire any green shell we would have. They would seemingly never break creating Green Shell Hell. You have created Blue Shell Hell. 👍

  • the trick is ride in second place with 2 blue shells and on the last lap when your close enough to blue shell 1st place before they cross just blue sheel them or pass them either one

  • Someone has done a video on if you can outrun Blue Shells, and yes, it is indeed possible, but you have to be on 200cc to be able to outrun Blue Shells, because you're just barely fast enough to outrun a horde of blue shells to never get hit by them, so long as you don't crash or bump into anything that would slow your speed down. Eventually at some point the Blue Shells will just simply give up trying to get you because you're going too fast and there's a time limit to how long the Blue Shell can exist, so more or less it's just waiting out that time limit, I don't remember what the time limit of Blue Shell is, but I think it's around 15-30 seconds at max speed, as to what happens to Blue Shells if they can't reach their target I think it just despawns immediately.

  • Blue Shell Showdown on Wii was more fun to watch. There's just more depth in terms of what racers can do, because its mostly a rebalance (heh) of all the items in the game, and other small but thoughtful touches

  • I love blue shell mode. Personally I add mushrooms and blue shells (Allows dodging of some) Over anything though I like 200cc+mushroom/star for a sudo-250cc
