Singleton is located in the heart of the South Downs, approximately 7 miles north of Chichester on the A286. Charlton is less than a mile to the east of Singleton.
We parked between Singleton and Charlton and made our way to the hamlet of Charlton. Further information may be found here - www.westsussex.info/charlton.s.... One of Charlton's claims to fame is that it is the place where the first Womens Institute in England held its inaugural meeting during the First World War.
From here, we took the lane to the top of Charlton Down where we heard and saw numerous skylarks and pheasants, and enjoyed the sights and sounds of various fauna and flora. The views from the top are fabulous, and typical of this area of the South Downs; a joy to behold.
The path across the downs took us back toward Singleton, from which there are further spectacular views across the village and Downs beyond.
Singleton is simply a wonderful collection of historic buildings in architectural styles that are synonymous with this area of West Sussex. Further information about the village maybe found here - wikishire.co.uk/wiki/Singleto... and www.westsussex.info/singleton.....
The C11 St Mary's church, which has undergone many changes over the centuries, forms part of one of the iconic views of the village (06:47). More details of the church are available at sussexparishchurches.org/chur....
All background and natural sounds were recorded during our time filming.

    • Thank you for your kind comments; we are pleased you enjoy the videos. This one has received significantly more views than our other ones so, we hope you do not mind us asking, was there anything that you particularly liked about it? We have repeatedly tried to see how this differs from the others but, aside from the location, we can not identify anything! Did KZhead suggest it? Or, did you just find it after viewing one of our other videos? Sorry for the questions! We would just like to understand how we can improve!

  • Another lovely walk which gave much pleasure. Thank you! The only improvement that might be made is to make clearer the actual route you are walking to get from A to B, as this is not always obvious.

  • That was just perfect - a feast for the eyes- thank you! There is something so special about capturing the scene so early in the day! It was good to see the Church with its doors open. Some of your shots are ‘calendar worthy’ & you feel you want to walk along those lanes & capture it for yourself. Do larks stay here now during Winter? I thought they migrated but I did hear them singing in early February on another channel. And those flowers were magnificent- do you know what they were? - the ones that were glorious red & all the bees were feeding on them. Sorry 2 questions 🤔

    • Thank you, Diana, for your kind comments. You are right, there is something about the early morning light, and at this time of year it has a vast range of colours. We are early birds, and like to capture what fewer people see; not so much effort is required at sunset! Skylarks are resident in England and, thankfully, a warm or sunny morning, is all that is required to get them singing! The population has declined, though locally we are blessed with good numbers; it is so easy to disturb them when they are on the ground as they are well camouflaged. Very frustrating when trying to get the perfect footage! The red flowers look to be some type of aster but not sure of the exact variety.
