I'll never forget how fitting it was when I heard this on the radio in late October 1994 as I was driving around suburban Omaha delivering pizza on an overcast evening during rush hour with autumn in full swing and spooky decor on some houses. This was one of my favorite songs when i was really young, like 8-10 years old. I remember listening to it on the radio while my dad was driving. When i was 12 i lost my dad to cancer and after that i completely forgot about this song. One day, around a year ago, i randomly heard it on a sidemen video and i almost freaked out. I managed to find the name, since i never actually knew how it was called, and i burst into tears because i instantly remembered those times when my dad was driving and this song was playing on the radio. Back when my life was pretty much perfect and my dad was still here with me. Now i'm 21, it's been almost 9 god damn years since i lost him, but songs like this help bring back many good memories.

@ianbarrett60333 жыл бұрын
Well, let me help those who will try it... (It's amazing to see two difficult greek origin words in a song like this!!! ). Metaphorically (in greek is "μεταφορικά") means you don't say it literally, you don't say what it is exactly. Allegorically is something similar ( in greek "αλληγορικά") and it means you say something happening but using another story, such as Esopus myths.

This is a great song and video to listen to and watch around Halloween. I'll never forget how fitting it was when I heard this on the radio in late October 1994 as I was driving around suburban Omaha delivering pizza on an overcast evening during rush hour with autumn in full swing and spooky decor on some houses. It's hard to believe that was almost 30 years ago--the perfection of that moment was so profound that I always get a warm, happy feeling in my gut when I think about it, especially now that we're knocking on Halloween in 2023.
I love personal stories like this. Thanks for sharing, made me smile today 😊

Definitely a Halloween song👍👍
I always got a Halloween vibe from this song, thought it was just me!
Sounds much older than it is, but in the best way possible. Gritty, dirty guitar style, and retro vocals. The use of it in Lucifer was brilliant.
This, exactly this. I have never seen a song fitting a scene so perfectly.
Im 21 too. Also, life be like that sometimes.
I'm 21 too. I heard this from a Charlie's Angles movie.
Thanks for sharing that memory!

Now 29 years old. Sounding fresh in 2024.
I haven't heard this song in over 25 years. Damn, what a nostalgia trip.
welcome back
So long? Did you live in a cave? 😳
@@Leo-qe3gl Lol, no. This video & song were played all the time circa 1995-1996 on local TV stations. Then it stopped & I totally forgot the song until I heard it again in January 2023.
@@Djordje_Jovanovic 🙂👍. I love this song too.
Nostalgia is a powerful emotion ❤
Im 39, point being that I have never never never once tired of hearing this CLASSIC! God bless edwyn!
Anyone who can include 'metaphorically' and 'allegorically' in their lyrics with both words actually making sense, is a hero in my book :-)
@@VICKY1961K Of course there would be Greek commenters in a song that is played like once per day in Greek radio for 20+ years
Just but one clue as to the intelligence and ability being performed here. If you ever caught the MTV vid from when this track was released, you will see Edwin displaying his fingers showing his dedication to getting the sound just right.
Grammar police here-hi, hello😁 It would have been correct if you said "metaphorically" and "allegorically", or even "metaphor" and "allegory"....But you sir, are mixing forms of the words unequally with eachother, and this drives me crazy when people do this! I mean, Children read things on the internet! Consider what we are all teaching them! We should all be ashamed at our grammatical laziness. Please, everyone think of the children! Obviously, I'm being hyperbolic(another lesson for the kids😉) but it does drive me a little nuts, though. Ok. My rant is done. I'll eff off now. I did like the actual substance of your comment though, for the record😊

Facts
If you metaphysically reincarnated David Bowie and Elvis's voice for a song you'd have Edwyn Collins..... This is without a doubt one of the greatest tunes of any generation! I can't believe he never blew up after this hit...... I also love the video and and especially the two nods in the video when he says... And I never had a girl like you before... It make the song Very personal and believable.
Bowie and Presley are right on for the deep shaky sound he has, except that Edwin is less stylized than either one. A very natural, raw, sexy delivery. Tres masculin,
He couldn't do the work needed to make himself better known after the stroke.
Yes a long time ago i thought this song was sung by Bowie
I did as well assumed it was David Bowie when it played in background of movie Charlie's Angels Full Throttle. Cheers
This song has paid his mortgage and then some, he's done very well! We'll be listening to this in 50 years time still.
I only heard this for the first time around May 7, 2024. I like it a lot!
I dont know where i first heard this song, but suddenly it was in my head and i had to find out who sings. Now im here, still without a clue
A crazy cool song that will never go out of style. If James Dean were a song, this would be it.
_Love_ that man's body of work.
This song is timeless, even after almost 30 years.
omg for me that's seriously yesterday, lol
If I had to decide which 100 songs i would take with me to a deserted island, this would definitely be one of them.
Loved it the first time I heard it play it often
Oh hell yes, naked bonfire dancing
This song needs a big comeback, it's iconic. Best use for it was in the movie Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.
thank you was trying to figure what movie it was from was it the song for Demi Moore?
That's one of the best guitar riffs of all time. Period.
Guitar tunes can be synchronized with two or more strings that delivers a music to human minds whereby it can leave a lasting soothing affect so enjoyable that can be as if you just met a long time trustworthy friend.

A crazy cool song that will never go out of fashion. If James Dean was a song, this would be it.
The porn star?
@@miamiheatbaby87 No, James Dean was a charismatic actor who died in 1956 at age 24, several decades before I was even born. But his amazing movies will live forever: Rebel Without a Cause Giant East of Eden Among Dean's many acting innovations, he invented the technique of provocatively ad libbing in order to make his fellow actors become enraged in real life, thus resulting in very realistic interactions.
James Dean was more boyish than this. This is an earthy sexual man. Both great, just different.
Perfect description
you probably mean the James Dean, the Drift King right?
The best song ever ❤️
So many people think this was Bowie. I'm always glad to turn them on to this one hit wonder.
Edwin Collins isn't exactly a one hit wonder. Probably seems that way to most people under 40 though.
Congratulations Edwyn Collins, you sir have made one of the greatest songs ever, a song that will transcend time itself. We will hear this song in movies for the rest of eternity.
Was this his only super hit? Is he still active?

My wife was watching a movie called Goodnight Mommy and this came on in a scene with the woman dancing to this and I felt like I was 8 or 9 years old back in the 80’s. The vibe had me look it up via Shazam and here I am! What nice jam. Definitely timeless

Música que lembra aquelas noites alucinantes que atravessávamos quando éramos jovens, hoje em 2024 estou com 50 anos, só agradeço por essas pérolas da juventude!
This song played at my sister’s funeral, it will be forever etched in my mind because she liked it and her friend painted me a picture of her with the lyrics on the side, i will turn them into a tattoo one day
Sorry if this sounds insensitive, but it sounds like she had a kick-arse funeral.
Sorry for your loss ❤️ she must've been pretty awesome to have such a send off.
I'd like to see the picture that was painted 🎨
@John Deer your a nobody mate, dont tell people what to do
@John Deer dont be so sensible kid, i will elaborate... No one has the right or the wisdom to tell other human " you shall not do that", we are all nobodies in terms of ultimate truth... if he feels like tattoing or whatever is his thing. And chill mate, no need to waste energy (and comment on my videos like a creep) on what strangers say about you, you are just showing you are triggered.
