10:46 when he says "ctrl click" I think it's changed to alt click
Oh dang lol I’m pinned Just thought I’d say your videos are amazing 👍
Thanks! I pinned this on some other videos but I forgot about this one
So I've binge watched this tutorial a first time, then a second time while trying to reproduce it step by step, then a third time and then back and forth in the video to find where was my error, because my result was not good. Few hours later, I realized I'd missed the "be sure to have the Auto Normalize checked". Then some more time to experiment the options of weight paint. At the end, I've learned a lot. Thank you for this awesome tutorial.
6:08 if anyone has an issue with beveling the teeth, make sure you apply the scale first with ctrl A
I wish I could like this comment a few more times. Thank you.
Loved this tutorial, straight to the point, no annoying bad jokes, no annoying loud songs. Congrats.
No obnoxious graphical transitions...
I'm almost 6 minutes in and for me it's practically a masterclass in non-destructive block modeling. The topology is so incredibly clean that it's a marvel to look at. Kudos!
This is by far the most simple and detailed blender tutorial I’ve ever watched
Around 10 and half minutes he says to CTRL + Click to select the bones, then the screen shows SHIFT + Click. Not sure if it's a MAC thing, but on Mac, I had to CTRL + SHIFT + Click for it to work. If you're having trouble, try that. Great walkthrough and a serious help for the rigging and weight painting especially!
u saved me, thanks >w
for me alt+click works too, hope it helps ya avoid pain on your fingers
this works! thank you so much, i also realized you have to be in bone selection for it to work as well.
- Professional animation quality mouth rig - Easy TO USE (though requires a bit of time to setup) - Simple/minimal character face model I was expecting a flapping lips animation, but was pleasantly surprised when you went all the way. Thanks, great tutorial!
Your videos are what I have been looking for. When I started using blender I was terrified because I couldn’t model characters, navigate, make rigs, etc. I especially was terrified of lip sync but your tutorials are so in-depth and detailed even though the result is simple and stylized. Thank you.
Holy moly what an excellent and in depth tutorial! This clearly took a lot of work to produce. Cheers mate
10:50 if anyone is having an issue with selecting the bones with ctrl, make sure Paint Mask is deselected in the top left corner. It's the little gray square with white square. Was selected by default on my computer! :o)
IF anyone is having issues selecting the bones with CTRL, that's because he hit SHIFT instead and mis-spoke lol You can see the button presses he made in the video don't match
Pure excellence. I can't wait to model along. I feel this will give me both the skill and confidence to set up a good rig. Thank you.
I’ve watched tons of Blender tutorials and Yours are are so good and well explained! Really great work! Your character modelling one specifically was so well articulated.
This is one of the best Blender tutorials I have watched. I am an instant fan of your channel!
Nicely done! Jam packed with a good summery.
holy crap this is the best tutorial on rigging Ive ever seen. and Ive seen a lot. you make it so simple and straight forward. everything is so clear and concise. I think this one video did more to help me in just 30 minutes than the literal hours of content Ive watched from other tutorials did. this is great
This tutorial is pure gold! I always struggled with constraints and drivers, but you explain it kristal clear! Thank you so much for making this! I've learned a lot!!!
you are incredible man! no nonsence talking, very clear and so thorough. I started from scrarch with blender two weeks ago and I'm able to create my own charechters with amazing riggs and it's all thanks to you! thank you so much ❤
That's what I was searching for, from centuries 😭...finally I got it❤️ You deserve all the happiness in the world man❤️
I'm learning 3D modelling and rigging, and I have to say: This is an awesome tutorial! Thank you so much!
Right off the bat the construction of the head is incredible. Such an efficient workflow omg
I can’t thank you enough, watching you work just levelled me up big time 👍
I spent all day with this tutorial. I really enjoyed it and my result was as satisfying as yours. It took time, I am a beginner. Thanks to you, getting better.
Thanks mate, your method of a mouth rig is really good. I especially like the way you sync both the bone movements and shape keys together. I will try this and let's see if I can come up with something good.
Fantastic and information-rich tutorial! You explain everything thoroughly and it makes sense despite your speed in working through it (now to work through it step by step!). Seriously outstanding presentation, Joey -- many thanks and kudos.
Thank you so much! Most tutorials about rigging that I'm finding rely on the rigify addon, so I'm trying to stitch together a handful of others so that I know what I'm doing
listening to an expert mindfully narrate what they're doing can truly be- just as if not more- educational than an over explained beginner tutorial Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
If you had to make separate keyframes for the smile and the frown (I had to because a negative smile looked weird on the animal mouth I was making) Then you can simply edit the driver on the smile and change the Expression to Value*-10. That way Z axis movement will still control the smile and frown, but this will allow the smile to occur when going up and the frown should occur when going down. (Going down = moving the lips bone down on the z axis to clarify)
Your rigging videos are so helpful in getting me to understand this stuff, thank you for your hard work :)
This tutorial is so useful and detailed! Thank you!🔥🔥🔥
What a wonderful and easy to follow tutorial! My first animation had me really struggling with faces but now I've gone back to starting from scratch, following this taught me so much!!
Very cool use of drivers and shape keys. I've never consider that as an option until now.
I keep revisiting these tutorials because they are so helpful, thank you!!
Very well done. Learned some useful tips. Thank you!

A clean well done tutorial. 👍
Just subscribed. I was following Dikko's tutorials for modeling and rigging, but my man didn't explain how he got the teeth to move with the armature since I know the teeth are separate objects. Anyway, I'm super grateful for this straight forward tutorial!
Well done. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much!
Very well explained my friend, thank you so much :D
Another great tutorial from you! Thank you. Big like.
Very helpful. Learned a lot. Thanks!

Yo I got your scribble-gen add on and this looks like fun too, but Im' really excited about the pixel sorting filter I caught a glimpse of, buying it now!
Thank you for the hotkeys!
This tutorial is perfect! you're the best!
Crazy, man. Thanks for sharing!
Exactly what I needed.
Hey Joey. I’ve been going through your tutorials and they are exactly what I’ve been searching for. Thanks so much for the in depth lessons. I’ve been following along with a couple of the character modelling with the skin modifier videos. Just wondering if you could rig a head similarly to this method with the auto rig system that the skin modifier provides?
Thank you for this awesome tutorial.
Thanks for sharing! this is pretty exciting
THANKYOUU!!!! Amazing video, helped me a lot!!
Wow amazing, thank you for this!
Well done!
Wonderful, thank you!
Awesome tutorial, thanks man
great tutorial, your explanation of auto normalize was very helpful 👍
Thanks Joey, I just stumbled on this video after another, inferior tutorial video. It was so engaging I watched it all, even when it wasn't what I was looking for and my sauna turned off while watching. You should be teacher. Or a narrator, you have a good voice. Cheers.
So cute, thanks for sharing
love how you also started whistling while showcasing how the character can do it xD
Amazing tuturial
Thank you! With your help I learned how to do this :D
Thank you so much for this. It really helped.
Thank you for telling me about the normalize tool.
Now this man, this man here has the goods.
I find it easier to use shape keys to animate a mouth. Animating like that ain’t too hard for certain mouth shapes depending on the rig.
excellent tutorial!!!!
Even Dikko doesn't bring it to a such understandable level. And I love Dikko and his work!
