  • The band got the name twenty one pilots when Tyler read an Arthur Miller play in college. The play was about a man who made equipment for warplanes and found out some of the things he made had a defect in them but rather than recall the defective parts he decided it was best to just let them go out and be put in the planes so that he would not lose any money. In the end his defect led to the death of twenty one pilots. SoTyler chose the name as a constant reminder not to cut corners to gain fame and fortune.Absolutely everything they do in shows, lyrics, music, production, and videos and even their websites and social media accounts has a meaningful purpose that is well thought out

    • I wish all TØP fans had this mentality. I went to my first concert of theirs in October as well at a small venue. Almost everyone I talked to in line was really mean to me because i "don't deserve to be here because I've never been to a big show and have only been listening to them for 2 years." They seriously made me think that the entire fan base was awful. Even the person who I went with was saying the same things to me. Saying that "I'm lucky to be here" and "the ticket should have gone to somebody who has been into them longer." It was really upsetting.

  • My mother was murdered when I was 11, which is when I started listening to TØP. It's so crazy that around 6 months after I started they started blowing up, and when I was 14 this song was released and now it has almost 3 billion views (which is probably why you've heard it). I got a the "|-/" logo tattooed on me at 15, two years after my first suicide attempt, and although lots of people hated it, it always represented getting over a tough period in my life and I will always cherish it. I got pregnant later that same year which really brought this song close to me for a few months. It's amazing now seeing Tyler doing so much better and making music with a happier subject matter, even if I don't enjoy it as much. Him going from feeling unlovable to finding a wife, fame, and having two children and actually seeming happy for once is really inspiring and I'm really happy for him.

    • I definitely feel the same about being happy that Tyler is happy! Precisely because TOP has made music in such a diverse range of genres, I think people almost latch on to their sound from one particular album and get waaaaay too critical about the rest of their music. For me, the songs in Vessel will always be the ones that called to my soul and I am not sure that could ever be re-created, even by TOP, because Tyler and Josh are not in that stage of life anymore, which is totally fine!!! Just like your journey, TOP's music narrates a journey which changes, giving hope that even if you are in a dark place, things will change (Because life has a hopeful undertone 🤗). Even if the newer 'happier' songs do not strike the same cord with me, I still think they are amazing because of what came before, showing how far TOP has come.

  • The deep toned intense singing you hear towards the end is Tyler playing a character named ‘Blurryface’ which represents Tyler’s dark thoughts and insecurities, which is also represented through Tyler’s painted black neck and hands. Which is why in the song you’ll hear him sing “Mine name’s Blurryface and I care what you think”

    • @@ReactionTherapyOfficial his neck (throat, vocals) and hands (song writing) is how he fights Blurryface. The album Blurryface is a bit of a concept album about his battles with Blurryface and the vicious circle and winning and losing battles. The following album “Trench” is a continuation of that battle but takes you deeper Into the concept adding a new world Tyler has created that help represent the battles going on and all of the Banditos that are with him trying to leave Dema and get beyond Trench but keep getting captured by their bishops and brought back to Dema.

    • @@ReactionTherapyOfficial There is a journey but I’m not the best to lay it out. But a good place to start is owed to sleep and the vessel album. Ode to sleep is a great video that’s done in a documentary style that follows the band as they progress over a few years. That song also has a lot of deep lyrics and imagery. I think you already covered car radio and migraine which would be around the time you watch “Ode to sleep”.Then you definitely would like to hit “Lane boy” which tells a story of who the band is (genre). By then I’m sure you’ll have many members of the clique sending you where to go next

  • Love your breakdown of the deeper side of Twenty Øne Piløts, lots of people hear their upbeat tunes and the great hooks, yet they don't realise how introspective and thoughtful the lyrics are - and this is a shame. I have suffered from depression and anxiety much of my life and gladly have found lots of refuge in music and certain musicians. Since I turned into my 40s I began to really push my limits and started going to see all the bands I love in concert whenever they toured in my area. Because I have unusual taste in music I have faced my anxiety and fears by go to see many bands on my own... I have had great experience every time, from Nine Inch Nails to these two guys Twenty Øne Piløts - I bought the ticket one hour before they played - I knew very l about them, but they were the second best live concert ever... I'm 49 now and I get to see lots of live music with friends and alone. The only thing that makes me feel totally alive and free. Thanks for your videos, and love to all! 🤗

  • It is so wonderful to see this music, the art and the artists through your eyes! They mean so much to me and are such an important part of my life. Thank you for including them. I think you'd be surprised how much it would mean for many of their fans to see you take to them this way. I hope you watch some interviews with them; they are absolutely delightful, playful and SO intelligent and intentional. Particularly choose the 30-60 minute radio station hosted Q&A's they do with fans (2018-2019), where they talk about "real stuff," not just promotional jazz. Also, any FaceCulture interview with Tyler on KZhead is like a little therapy session in itself. Gosh, I just feel so lucky to be a fan alive to watch them do this crazy 10+ year performance art piece they are crafting. This thing is a rabbit hole with no bottom, as far as the storytelling and conveyance goes. Big themes run deeeep, but still tons of fun just on the surface.

  • Ok this video got me emotional. One of my favorite things in the world was discovering this band so watching you react to this brought back the excitement. I’m 42, I got into them in my early-mid 30s and I can honestly say this music did save my life. It’s the music my generation needed but instead we got the grunge-angst music, almost the product of what happens to people with untreated trauma, anxiety, depression, but this music shows you that you’re ok and you’re going to be ok and to use art as a way of making it through the darkness. I have a 15 year old and he sees what Tyler and Josh are doing and that helps him as well. I could go on forever but one last thing, yes the people in the video are their family. I’ve been very fortunate to be in the pit at these shows but mostly to sit near Tyler’s family at almost every show and they are really nice, Jenna too (for the Jenna fans). I actually fangirl pretty hard for Tyler’s mom, Kelly because she seems really cool. K, bye.

  • Tom and Nick - you guys work ethic is crazy! So many uploads this week, thank you!!! Great reaction - tøp are my fav band and Eminem is my fav artist so I’ve loved the reactions this week!!! A top live show is like nothing you’ve ever experienced before! All age groups (I’m mid 40’s), all kinds of people and it really has a community feel! It’s never ‘us’ and ‘them’ - Tyler and Josh do a lot of work in the crowd, on different stages throughout the venue (where space allows) and really connect with fans. At the end of every show they say, ‘we’re twenty one pilots and so are you’ - and it really does feel like we’re all in it together! I find it difficult to relax, especially during my ‘work life’ where I practice commercial/construction law so can be very ‘straight laced’ and serious a lot of the time, but put me at a tøp show and I’ll be screaming at the top of lungs, laughing, shouting and then crying like a baby! Music gives me a release and is so important to me, it’s helped me through tragedy when I lost my daughter and the resulting anxiety/depression from that, helps me bond with my son and spend one to one time doing something we both love (he’s also a huge top and Em fan) and also helped enormously with the prescription meds addiction I developed when trying to cope with everything. Sorry for the long comment (again!) but wanted you guys to know how great this channel is and how much you’re helping people every single day! It’s so important! @dpx6962@dpx6962 Жыл бұрын
  • The song is about the stress of growing up and realizing how hard being an adult is and missing the easy days as a kid. And yes, those are their actual families. I think this was their first 'big' music video, and they filmed it in the street they grew up on, in their childhood homes and with their siblings and parents in it. It's great. This was the song I first encountered them with, because it was everywhere back then and the music video intruiged me.

  • Great reaction Tom, I’ve already left a comment that was too long and then forgot a couple of recommendations! Lol! You definitely need to check out some live tøp - almost anything from the Fox Theatre is epic, especially: Trees (Fox theatre version), not a lot of lyrics to break down as they are repeated a lot, but the build in the music and energy is next level! Holding on To You - one of my fav tracks, it would be amazing if you could do the official video and the live version (Fox theatre) in one video! I’m probs asking a lot, but the music video has some great imagery around the message of the song and is easier to pick up than it is with the live version. However, the live is just next level brilliance! Goner - defo Fox theatre version for this one, there’s no official video and the album version, while still great doesn’t hit anywhere near as hard as the live does!

I just can't be there any longer than I have to and I don't have anything lined up. It's kind of freeing. I have vacation hours that I will be getting paid out to me, savings and a husband, so I am not worried about it. • Recently I had a blast from the past. I was walking down my road to the bus stop and I smelt the smell of fresh green beans. It may not be significant to you but to me it was. It reminded me of when I was very little and used to pick green beans on my fathers garden at my great grandmothers house. They also took care of it, kind of a family garden. I'm going into high school next year and this song has never been more relatable, I'm growing fast but slow. Idk what's going at all, I need help but no one to go to cause I don't want to worry anyone about me. I know how it feels to worry about the people around you and I don't want people to worry about me.. I don't even know how to express feelings. I always hide how Im sad and angry, idk what to do. I have hobbies, I listen to music to escape things and I'm happy but sad and scared and angry all the same time. What do I do?

You just understand all the passion they have for what they do their music transmit a message of comfort like "it's going to be okay, there's people out there who understand how you're feeling" and they're pretty funny guys too! I would LOVE to see a reaction video of the song *The Last* by *Agust* *D* he's a Korean rapper (he's been called "hands of midas" for the k-media). Other songs I recommend are People, Honsool, 28, Strange, all of them are very good songs, please, I would really, really appreciate it! And my friends would love to see it too! Thank you!

  • Speaking of slowing things down in relation to the amount of stress you have in your life - TØP has another song called Pet Cheetah and some of the lyrics are, "No, I move slow I want to stop time I'll sit here 'til I find the problem No, I move slow I want to stop time I'll sit here 'til I find the problem" And when I'm feeling stressed out, I'll sing that lyric to myself to remind my brain to slow down and focus on just one step at a time.

  • Loved your advice and the positive things you pointed out about the lyrics! The sent of the old building to me is of like elementary school or grandparents house and the comforting feeling of it. They idea of scaling back on responsibilities to relieve stress is such a fine line for some of us. Reminds me of an idea a mentor had shared with me. I love helping others and she pointed out that I over help and it keeps me from helping myself. I was angry she thought my generosity was somehow selfish. She took a sheet of paper and demonstrated how I tear a little off and give it it away until there’s nothing left. Then explained how I had to recoup the parts I give away in order to keep investing in others. I was really blown away at the simplicity of it and reality that I can’t continue helping people without giving some to myself. Your reaction made a difference today. Thank you for being such a cool person! 💜👍🏻
