⚠️ (SPOILER WARNING) ⚠️ Hope Matpat can see this! I’m honestly surprised that he didn’t go into the biggest plot hole, that the dreamstone is still out there, but I guess he didn’t want to spoil the end of the movie. 😂 When Max Lord reversed his wish to fuse with the stone, it must have reappeared in his office right?? Meaning this whole thing could start all over again with some other crazy person. That’s how Wonder Woman really failed the world, she didn’t even fix what was the main threat of the movie. 🤣
Honestly, it's debatable as to whether that's actually what happened. We never see the stone again and the world doesn't just revert back to the way things were before all the wishes had been made. It continues to go on with the effects of the stone still having an overall part that was played on/in the world. If things continue to go on with the stones effects remaining tangible (the wall and nukes needing to literally destroy themselves rather than just fading into nothingness) then it's potentially possible that by rescinding his wish, and with the stone having dissolved to dust previously, that Max's wish reversal actually permanently destroyed the stone.

I was a fighter jet mechanic for years, and that scene where they stole the jet was infuriating. An aircraft at a museum not only would be drained of fuel, but it would also be drained of gallons of engine oil, gallons of hydraulic fluid used to power the flight controls and landing gear, and these planes also require regular servicing of gasses such as nitrogen and oxygen. Plus, a lot of them can't even start up on their own. You first need to connect a car-sized electrical power generator to them, and then disconnect it later. There's a lot more to fighter jets than just turning the key and hitting the gas.
Former helicopter mechanic here. I know many helicopters in museums also have many systems removed as well. (engines, fuel tanks, hydraulic reservoirs) Is it the same for fixed-wing museum aircraft as well?
I don't know why, but my eyes skipped "mechanic" like three times in reading this comment. And I was kind of confused how one can *be* a fighter jet, let alone how someone *stops* being one.

Well, we could say that since we don't know how invisibility works in the case of that plane, it is explainable by "magic". The plane is invisible, which means that somehow, visible light is neither absorbed, not reflected off of its surface. If it can do that on the visible spectrum, who's to say it can't do that on the radio spectrum as well?

Theory: either Daina or Maxwell Lord wished for all the wishes to be cancelled or something like that. There's no way every single human being decided to cancel their wishes based on the speech Daina gave some would be too selfish to do that and some simply had not selfish reasons some would simply wish things like curing their own disease or disability or erasing that particular disease or disability from the world. No way something as cheap as "you shouldn't cheat kids" would work on these people. So either she or Lord cheated and erased the effects of the stone
Remember when Diana went to that shamans shop and found out what that stone was she found out it's true purpose was to create chaos! So even if someone wished for a disease or disability to be cured something there would be some kind of consequence!
When it comes to the jet there is a simple explanation, Diana said she had been trying to learn how her father hid the Island, an island that isn't on maps, that doesn't show on radar, and what not. And she used the same technique to hide the jet, hence why radar dosent show it.
I like how MatPat doesn’t even point out the fact that Steve and Diana still have to return back to the US in the same jet with no fuel and the fact that cameras could easily identify the two individuals who stole a military jet, so they would immediately be wanted all across the country

I know some people think these kinds of videos are silly. “It’s just a movie” they say. But unfortunately we consume so many movies that the truth of how things work can become distorted. It’s a good reality check to be reminded that “movie magic” is just that: magic.

You forget, she made the jet invisible, now this would have been done by bending light around it. This of course would also mean air would bend around it and reduce drag to magical lows, thus drastically increasing fuel efficiency :)

13:03 Small problem here, radio waves, like visible light waves, are EM waves, which makes them fundamentally the same thing just with different wavelengths, which means that if diana's magic cloaks the plane from all EM waves, they are also invisible to radars. But they forgot about the transponder so they're still dead.
Matpat, the research you’ve done on this is amazing, the fuel amounts and distances able to be traveled, along with the radar and stuff, but I have one word that solves it all. Magic. Maybe Wonder Woman did more than just make the jet invisible?? Maybe she gave it extra power to travel to Egypt and maybe the invisibility somehow stops it from reflecting radio waves? It’s a bunch of unexplained power like you said, so maybe that’s the real solution to it all? 😂 Also I’m surprised you didn’t talk about how the dreamstone is still out there, thought that’s what you were gonna talk about when I saw the title. That's still an issue since she said she still trying to learn how to turn something invisible, so it-s highly unlikely she would have mastered keeping the jet in flight the entire rest of the trip
About the radar: The point is that THERE IS A PHYSICAL EFFECT, so the jet is reflecting radio waves. Even if we assume that the jet does not receive them, there are still fluctuations (due to the deformation of the clouds) that allow the jet's location to be detected (because yes, the radio waves react to the change in density in the air caused by the jet at full speed going through it).
This movie failed us when they stole the plot of Encino Man for Steve's return.

Reminds me of Transformers ROTF where there was a massive desert airplane graveyard behind the Smithsonian Air and Space museum.
I was thinking about this exact thing when I was watching. I thought Wonder Woman's stupidity will backfire later on.

All movies has scientific plotholes and it's unavoidable. They don't need to hire someone to make a movie's science perfect because it's never gonna happen. The imperfection of the science in the movies is part of the stories. Besides, most people don't actually care. The story, cgi effect, action scenes, and the acting is more important.

Wonder Woman's invisibility conferring power pretty clearly works to subvert modern detection technology, since it's the same power that's kept Themiscyra hidden *this entire time*. Even discounting that on camera, and therefore canonically, the plane vanished from radar. This video was absolutely good enough without delving into whether the plane would be detectable or not.
It'd be funny if Matpat's hypotheses were actually acknowledged in a sequel and it's actually someone else's hand that saved the world or whatever, and WW was somehow covering up her repeated failures. That would make me laugh.

Probably not because at the end of the day, who cares? If every movie had it's transportation nitpicked like this, almost every movie would probably have a "plot hole" because at the end of the day what matters is the characters getting to their destination, not the specific details of how they got there. The only exception would be if the movie was literally about transportation.

As far as I know, the fact that the jet got on the radar while on the runway in the first place is wrong because transponders don't turn on automatically. In a usual commercial flight there is a whole interaction between the pilot and ATC in which ATC provides the pilots with a sqwk code. The pilots then plug the sqwk code into the transponder and turn it on. So I doubt that Steve would have done that if he was trying to steal a plan, now you may ask if thats the case why is it hard to steal planes then? because planes in the real world arent invisible and commercial planes can be tracked by eyesight long enough for fighter jets to get in the air and surround it and fighter jets dont get stollen because of lots and lots of ground security(and ofc that goes for commercial planes too, just not as much as that for jets) at the end of the day they are military aircrafts afterall you can imagine the amount of security they have.

I have to push back a little on the idea that WW invisibility powers wouldn't work on radar. Radar uses radio waves, a form of electromagnetic radiation. However, visible light is also a form of electromagnetic radiation, and if her powers make the plane transparent to visible light, it's entirely possible it makes it transparent to radio waves. For example, glass is an object that is (mostly) transparent to visible light and radio waves.

But by it being invisible doesn't it mean that the radiation from the radar will pass through the plane?

Hey Mat Pat, I've been a sub for years and love your content and I don't usually like to nit pick but i wanted to point out that technically radar used radio yes which is technically a kind of light. For example infra red is not visible to the human eye but we can use it to see heat through materials like glass and even walls (some researchers were able to use a wifi based heat map of a area to locate a peraon through a wall) so since we don't know the full nature of wonder womans invisibility ability it is possible that it covers more then just the visible spectrum of light and allows sygnal like radar ro pass through. TLDR; Invisible plane could be invisible to radar and most other forms of detection available in that era. Thank you for reading my Ted talk. 😂
