Let's Build Boba Fett's Starfighter from MPC models in 1:70 Scale. Screen Accurate Build | Ep 11
Join me today as I learn how to apply the Oilbrusher Starship and Rust Set from Ammo and Mig Jimenez. I have never used streaking oils before to weather up a model and now is the time. Will it turn out good, or will I need to wipe it off and start over?

  • Looks great Jordan. I would recommend using a flat brush for dragging the streaking down. You can also get “saw tooth” flat brushes specifically for streaking. I personally would have done the streaking with the bottom being how it parks, when most of the moisture would affect it causing streaking, not where it spends most of its operational life in the vacuum of space. However I have not looked at photo references so you could be more correct. For a first time streaking you did very well and should be proud. Keep up the great work.

    • Thank you so much Ken! All of those tips are fantastic. And I agree about the positioning of the ship with the streaking. I will be going back over and adding another layer and will focus on making that make some sense. Your continued support is amazing. Thank you!

  • I second what Ken said. It looks like a filthy starship so I would call this success for your first time streaking with oil paints. You have the technique down just need a flat brush to help streak the paint. Also, don't feel that you need to have perfect streaks on the first pass. Layering is a technique where you keep repeating the streaking effect in similar areas until you build up the subtle streaking until you get a grimy look. Layering is THE technique to learn and it does require patience to do but once you get it there is no end to the amount of beautiful and realistic results you can create

    • Thanks Dave! I've been thinking a lot about what you said and it makes complete sense to me. In this application, I tried to take care of it all in one shot. I will be going back in and doing another layer soon. I really appreciate all of the great advice!

    • Thanks Donnie!!! I kept trying to reference the job you did on the Emperor's Shuttle. I need some practice still, but this turned out really well.
