Shane is a really cool guy. I reached out because I wanted to understand his bat and how his mind worked. I ended up valuing the friendship over anything else. Check out his video and consider subscribing to him here: kzhead.info/sun/g9moZrqfmpSuo6s/bejne.html
Sir you are my idol
Oh you're now just discovering him even though I tweeted at you about him lol
Why not combine both techniques.... Lol. seems its already planned for :D
I've been subscribed since I stumbled on his Particle filter video for his plasma cutter. One of those things you just know when you see it. Instant subscribe in my books!
What about adding a couple more ports for charges that vent straight out of the back of the bat to counter the initial impact deceleration?
This was a blast 💥in every meaning of the word! Daydreaming about hitting a supersonic pitch with it...

That is the most epic engineer quote ever: "when you can't afford them, you gotta build them"
How to end up on a list somewhere
You’re not kidding!
Best quote I've heard from a KZheadr this month! Btw. Happy to hit the 500 like.
This applies in the sciences as well. When I was in university I met a post doc who built his own hplc system out of spare parts off ebay.
"I like being the dumbest guy in the room, and I feel like that right now." - Destin Sandlin, (aerospace engineer and actual rocket scientist)
Because: “when you can’t afford one you build your own.” This about his cnc. With ingenuity like this it’s only a matter of time before a problem comes up that requires him to learn rocket science and then he probably would build himself a rocket

That’s why he moved to the new design is because the original one did XD
As we learned from Tom Stantons trebuchet, a heavier projectile might eat up more of that energy left behind. It might also squeeze a bit more range out of it
Check out Shane's videos. He makes it really clear that it took A LOT of work to not break :D
Shane is an absolute genius. The way he reacts to the velocity calculation being spot on is so funny.
I kind of like how aggressively humble Shane is. It almost feels like he's insulting you for complimenting him.
Finds out his velocity calculation was almost spot on ".....cool..." LMAO totally not surprised hes thinking "well yeah...math bro.."

Sean is like the perfect ideal of an engineer- just absolutely devoid of charisma in the most charming way possible, and brilliant beyond comprehension. 10/10
Destin: "He's smarter than me" Shane: "No. Depends on the topic" -that's a very wise answer. No matter how smart you are or how much you know, there's someone who knows more about something than you do. Or, the person your talking to knows more about a particular topic than you do. @@cuthbertallgood7781 that’s a good point, I sort of took that to be his personality but didn’t consider that he’s not necessarily used to being an on camera personality yet.

My heart is so full of joy that SmarterEveryDay has recognized Shane and his channel Stuff Made Here! Shane is a genius and deserves to be up there with Destin and Mark. Let’s get him there!!

It’s like you want each component to hit max velocity at the same time. Elasticity adds delay. So one way syncing can be accomplished by matching elasticity. This is always how I’ve thought about projectile biomechanics. For any swing or throw, you want your shoulders, upper arms, forearms, and wrists to all hit max velocity right at the point of contact (assuming adequate control). It’s like a whip. This is also ideally at the point of full extension, which is why a clean follow-through is important.
This is a really intuitive and relatable way to explain this. Good job. :)

You can probably design special porting to slow the extension of the piston rods by shifting any residual propellant charge from behind the piston to the front of the piston. You would need to have a piston coupled to the rods that is of a greater diameter than the rods. I understand that some aircraft flight controls have hydraulic dampeners which use tapered components within the control cylinders which effectively slow the flow of oil by acting as a metering valves which come into play as the cylinders near the end of their stroke. It seems that this could be of help in controlling the deceleration of this device.
