Have you seen impressive smile transformations and wondered how teeth move with aligners? In this episode on the science of teeth straightening, our CEO and co-founder Dr. Aalok Y. Shukla explains how aligners work using the same basic concept of consistent pressure that was used to straighten teeth in Ancient Egypt! All forms of modern braces use these targeted forces for tooth movement in orthodontics.
So how do invisible aligners work and what’s behind tooth movement theory? Think of it like frames in a cartoon animation: each aligner is like a frame, moving your teeth by 0.2mm. Over a course of several months, your teeth are moved in small increments to achieve a final position. So, each aligner represents the new position your teeth will be in, preparing them for the following aligner and teeth movement.
Using our A&B aligner system, the more flexible A-aligners help stimulate movement and the stronger B-aligners secure the new position. This enables more comfortable, systematic tooth movement mechanics. Of course, every smile transformation is first digitally planned and then applied, so keep watching to see the process in 3D simulation vs reality!

  • Doctor i don't have any gap in teeth. But my teeth is forward leaning. From side-on it doesn't look good. I want to push it back with aligner. Will it help? Or will i have to give up 1-2 teeth to get the job done?

  • Wow, that man's lower jaw is enviable 3:12 (when my tongue lays flat, it covers my entire lower teeth). Would be nice to see the effects on someone with a super narrow palate/jaw.

    • Teeth are subject to constant forces in the mouth so whether you had braces or not they will be exposed to move over time unless you wear a retainer. Head over to our website / blog to learn all about retention :)

  • Also, if the teeth, cheeks, and tongue move the teeth, why not harness their power instead of using Invisalign? (Orthotropics)

    @RS54321@RS54321 Жыл бұрын
    • Because the forces generated due to our own muscles are not constant and can't be directed in a certain direction on the teeth.
