Russians Fleeing Putin’s War Reach the US-Mexico Border

Since the start of Putin's invasion in Ukraine, thousands of Russian men and families have fled, the majority escaping Russia’s military draft. Many are making their way to Mexico where they spend weeks on end waiting to enter the United States and claim asylum.

    • @@ThePhantom712 you'd have to apply for a biometric passport first. then get to the border. have funds to stay afloat abroad for quite some time. all of it costs money & takes time and not everyone can afford it. in september, all plane & train ticket prices skyrocketed because most were sold out (idk about now). people had to travel by car for thousands of kms and stay in traffic for days before the opportunity to actually cross the border. so yeah, only the privileged and desperate ones could leave the country.

    • Sorry, but replacing one Imperialist military for another isn't anything to be proud of. We human beings of planet earth should stop fighting for any Imperialist force, and only fight for the liberation of the citizens of earth to free themselves from Imperialists and their yoke. Look at the pain and misery the US military has unleashed since its inception. It's not anything to be proud of any more than being part of the Russian Federation military apparatus.

I mean what is America or being an American anyway , it's just the biggest company in the world , and the management can be replaced .

This is Russian propaganda from within Ukrainian borders. If someone is unhappy with their way of life in Ukraine & want to join the Russian Federation (where they have no toilets, no plumbing, barely any money, communism, etc.) then they should move across the border to Russia & not support a bloody war. • We undertook this journey as a family a year ago. Now, more than ever, my family and I understand the feelings of these people. It's indescribable; it's a nightmare. It's difficult to convey the path one must now take to get from Russia to the USA. In terms of stress, it's comparable only to the death of a loved one. My wife and I, both medical professionals, lost everything: good jobs, a business, our standing. We had to leave everything behind for the sake of saving our child's life and our own. Since 2014, we haven't supported the current regime in Russia,but the opposition itself is weak and fragmented in this country. Before the war, remnants of the opposition were simply exterminated, and expressing one's opinion was dangerous. Now, you can end up in prison for several years for a drawing or a poster with a couple of words. I don't believe that anything will change in Russia, even when the bloodthirsty monster Putin dies. There won't be democracy in this country for a very long time, and it will never be safe here. I'm glad that everyone who can and wants to is fleeing. Usually, these people are capable, hardworking, and intelligent.They are incredibly resilient psychologically because going through this path now is already a feat. Russia doesn't need these people; let them contribute to civilized countries like the USA. Good luck to them!"

They can’t go back to their homes and families because they’ll more than likely be tossed into a prison and then be force fed into the meat grinder right after. As far as history is concerned, plenty of immigrants and sons of immigrants have fought for our country. In the Vietnam War, there were many in Special Forces that were of Eastern European descent. Look at what the Haitians are doing in Tijuana. They are setting up their Little Haiti's with prosperous small businesses, helping out the local economy, heck there's even Asian communities in Mexicali and by Monterrey. Not just that, but it would be a rich cultural hodgepodge of various nationalities just in Mexico. Little Haiti's, Chinatowns and Koreatowns next to Russian Orthodox churches in Mexico, not only would it be a economic and human capital enrichment, but a cultural one as well. A lot of migrants wait here until they´re cleared to enter the USA but many others choose to start a new life here! Yes, we have our issues with insecurtiy mainly due to cartels supplying the huge demand of drugs from the USA but if your´re not involved with ilicit activities it´s rare you will get harmed in any way while being here.

English is more easy for a Russian to speak (due to cultural influence and the effects of the Cold War) as well as there being a much larger Russian community already established in the US, giving them economic opportunities and a buffer in getting used to a different culture and speaking a different language. The same is much less prevalent in Mexico, but even then the number of Russian migrants to Mexico has increased significantly too. • The amount of approving and rejoicing comments of ordinary Russians under videos of the atrocities done to civilians in Ukraine were no less a shock for Ukrainians than the war itself. We have somehow got used to the war, but the realization of who we have been living next to all this time, without even knowing it, is still terrifying.

    @truthbud@truthbud Жыл бұрын
    • It's terrifying for everyone. The delusional fantasizers in this comment section, as well as who made this ridiculous fluff video, completely ignore the reality of these "ordinary" people. They tell themselves they are being kind-hearted, but the very opposite is true. Their naïve and cowardly delusion only further enables the incredible barbarity inflicted by Ruzzia onto the world.

    • Technically speaking, the law allowing a draft is still in effect... BUT that is only for US citizens and when it is absolutely necessary. What happened in the Vietnam War is why the US moved away from the draft and focused instead of being a volunteer-only military...

      @theotherohlourdespadua1131@theotherohlourdespadua1131 Жыл бұрын
    • The U.S. military moved away from a conscription force after Vietnam because of the various issues that come from it. That's why it's a highly professional, all volunteer force nowadays. The U.S. government will never institute a draft for a war like Vietnam again because doing so is literally politcal suicide. The only time a draft could be initiated is if the Russo-Ukrainian war escalates further, or if China invades Taiwan, both of which are events that I think will cause an increase in volunteer numbers, so the draft may not be fully necessary.
