    • Oh yes...The Wave--but watch it with the sound way down and with subtitles

      @user-sn9ig9vl5p@user-sn9ig9vl5p20 күн бұрын
  • For those who don't mind subtitles, Norway's "The Wave" from 2015 is worth checking out. Kristian, an arrogant but gifted geologist, is tasked with monitoring the steep and geologically unstable coastal canyons of the fjords--where a tsunami set off by a landslide can rampage for miles before reaching the open sea. With such conditions, you'd think nobody would build along the cliffs where the only routes of escape are narrow switchback roads. So of course, where does Kristian's estranged wife work? In a cliff-side hotel... I didn't go in expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. The plot gets off to a slow start, a common issue in the genre, but once it picks up moment the tension barely lets off until the very end. While it doesn't break any new ground or wander too far from the common genre tropes, it remains fairly grounded in the unique challenges of the setting and each character's fight for survival. Solid performances and special FX overall make for a decent flick.

  • If unbelievable, inaccurate disaster movies are a guilty pleasure for you (much like they are for me) then I urge you to watch the Scorpion TV Series. Each episode is like a 45 minute disaster movie, they try to root it in science but they take a lot of creative liberties and do away with science from time to time. Either way, if you like disaster movies, you'll probably like Scorpion!

  • I would never classify Only The Brave as a disaster flick. It demeans the film's importance an emotional impact. Forest fires themselves can be considered disasters, but the film never focuses on them, nor does it depict the Hotshots as "superheroes". It's a powerful film with an ending among the most gut wrenching in film history. To call it a disaster film lessens it.

    • Do catch it! I loved the movie. And watch out for the exhibit on the evolution of life - methinks Fat Boy Slim used the idea for his music video Right Here, Right Now

  • I thought The Core movie was good. I like how that hacker turned from a trouble maker to a boy who prevented evil people from turning the core into a weapon and used his talent to make sure everyone knows the heroic sacrifices the heroes made.
