Of course it is made by Panasonic but the customisation is by Leica. It is a superb little camera but not technically the best available of course, but very capable indeed and gives a high degree of user satisfaction. My GX80 is a ‘better’ camera and cheaper even with a bright prime but certainly with its kit compact zoom. But that is completely missing the point. They are different and Leica do add value, not just by its name but with the packaging and consumer experience. If none of that is important to you as an individual, walk away and buy whatever does suit you. By the way, this camera is no longer in production as far as I know, with either branding, so it will not be easy to find in mid 2023. The sensible alternative is the rather good Ricoh GRIII, which actually looks cheaper but is more expensive. This is even more compact and fits in smaller pockets. Then there’s the Fuji X100 V which has a cult following and a waiting list in many countries [assuming it is still in production].
Hate to break the news, but the dlux-7 is not a Leica camera. I enquired yesterday with an official Leica store as I was also looking at one........they are made by Panasonic along with their c-lux line. Only the M and Q series of that size are genuine Leica. The salesman in the Leica store told me all about it and advised to reconsider if I wanted a real Leica camera. I reconsidered and walked away.
