Timing Belts are essential to keep a car running when it malfunctions there are dire consequences with consequential damage to the engine, namely bent valves, so it is important to know the state of the Timing Belt and to replace when necessary.

Shared this channel to my friend last year, and he's now servicing his own car. Please lets share the channel. Hope this channel grows much quicker. Thanks Gary
Best video I found for the Duratec engine, cam belt replacement. I only miss the remark that the first cylinder has to be on top, with the first cylinder valves closed.. But an excelent video though !
Thanks for supporting my channel with your visit, I am glad you found value in this video.
love your presentation .. you're by far the best in terms of presenting and showing how things are done ... best....Proudly South african...
Thanks for the support Pholela, it is great to know one's efforts are appreciated. Gary
This is amazing. a drunk driver crashed into my car head on, and i am repairing it on my own. I just learned that the engine mounting attaches to the cam belt cover and not the head... I was soo stressed out because that cast iron part of the cam cover is broken, and I thought it was the cylinder head. This video helped me loads even though I am not doing a cambelt change.
Glad to help Sifiso, thanks for supporting my channel with your visit.

Great video Gary. It's such a pity that the Figo is so limited on space
yes, Michael but believe it or not one does get worse.
good stuff gary, I have '15 1.4 Figo and somehow the crank pulley broke. It's a very hard car to work on. Love your videos. Very informative
Baie dankie vir die video. Die moderne karre raak al moeiliker om aan te werk.
Ja Leon dit is waar, maar iemand moet dit doen, ons kan leer om dit self te doen as die omkoste te veel word.
Thank you. Very much helpfull. Saw all the small important steps prior to doing the job so im prepared now to tackle the project
I am glad you found value in the video, Luan thanks for the support.
Thanks for the video Sir, I always relate Ford ikon 1.4l 2007 with Ford igo. Your videos are very informative, I use them on my vehicle
Glad to help
This helped me a lot. Three different mechanics could not set my Ford Figo timing in position
Great to hear the video helped you out Appolus, thanks for the support.
Thanks a million as I'm on t edge of doing the some thing this VERY informative THANK YOU

Great video. At 10:55 did you remove the screwdriver that locking the flywheel in order to move the crankshaft?
your videos are excellent thank you ...I have used the one of the polo bent valves with great sucess , thank you. just a mention that the polo conrods do not have the KEPIE to align the halves ,,,cost me another sump srvice
Good to know thanks for that information Edward, appreciated.
Thank you for this video if I just found it before we went belts it would have been so much money saved lol we did the timing belt and then we forgot to torque the pulley bolt cost us valves 😭 please make more of these helps so many people
Thanks for supporting my channel Sanel, sorry you forgot to torque up the pulley bolt, but we learn as we progress, I am glad you found the video useful.
Well illustrated
Thanks for making this video 💯
I am glad you liked it Davis, I hope you found it useful.
Hi Gary , i have a ford figo 1.4 Duractec , can you please advise where you bought the cam belt, tensioner, timing kit as well as serpentine belts
Hi Gary, can you tell me what the service interval is for the cambelt?
Do you know what bigger or performs cams you can put in this engine?
Thank you for the informative and helpful video. Get this man a Bells. One question, where can one get the crank pulley bolt at an affordable price? Thanks again
Hi Daniel, thanks for the support, I am glad the video was able to assist you, when one buys a belt and tensioner kit, the crank pulley bolt is usually included, failing that the only place to buy a decent one is the Ford dealerships, all the best ahead, Dasniel.
Thank You So Much.. We Learn Daily
Great stuff glad you liked it, and thanks for supporting my channel with your visit, feel free to visit as often as you like, and even better subscribe if you have not already. Gary
Hi Gary. Excellent video👍 as always . Wanted to find out where do you get the torque settings for the pulley and where did find the locking kit set for the engine.
100 Nm + 90°Wait 10 seconds15°, Diesel Electric, 0217065552, good luck Dharmesh, hope this helps.
Great stuff!
Thanks for the support Douglas, glad you like it.
Great video. What size bolt or drill bit could I use in the block as I haven’t got the correct pin?
10mm
Very good video. One of my future projects. But first I need to change the AC belt and fan belt. Any chance of having a video on that please. Thanks for saving us time and money.
Hi Rikus, thanks for supporting my channel by tuning in, I have done these belts on numerous occasions, but never filmed it, I will do so when the next one comes in, I can tell you there are no adjustments for these belts as they are special stretch belts and not easy to fit, there are a few special tools for it on the market, but very few actually work, so I use patience and ingenuity to fit these belts.
@@vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790 Super, thanks a lot. I can think patience will play a part in that small space. Looking forward to that video. Stay safe.
thanks mate my ford fusion has this engine and i plan on doing this
Great Chris, all the best man.
Another great video thx Gary.. My wife`s Figo has got around 37k to go before the belt change is due..... Not the easist car to work on for sure.... Think I`ll rather pay you a visit when its due hehehe..
Thanks for the ongoing support Nico, you are welcome when the time comes. Gary
Excellent video, Gary. I've done the exact same job using your instructions on my mother's car but perhaps I didn't get the timing spot on. We have an erratic idle. Car idles smoothly for a bit and then starts shaking for a bit. It's also hard to start sometimes. I've replaced the MAP sensor, cam angle speed sensor, coil (tried both the flat and taller one) and plugs. Also checked the PCV valve (rattles nicely) and hose and cleaned the throttle body. The generic diagnostic software I have says there is a random misfire (P0300) and I can see the timing advance jump around when the idle is wonky. Car pulls very well above 1000rpm. Would I be able to bring it to you next week to diagnose and redo the timing if necessary, please?
it sounds like an intake air leak,
What a mission these cars hey. Great video and camera work considering u solo. Is TDC always when the locking tool is in place (assuming the cams have not been tampered with?)
Yes when the locking tool is in place and the engine is turn clockwise.
With the rocam engines very very important to not do any late oil changes, it gets very expensive having to change out the 2 cams, and all those roller followers, because one decided to seize and grind the cam shaft from oval to round. Oil and filter is a cheap insurance policy.
thank you ,,, the words LABOUR INTENSIVE is my cue to try it myself.. can the tool kit be available in gauteng?
yes Edward it should be.
Die is di beste video. Kan jy my help met di torque specs vir di cylinder head op di kar. En vir die twee cam pulleys.
Hi Gary, thanks so much for the video! I have a couple of questions...could you please advise where to buy the timing tool kit you used in the video in CPT at an affordable price? Is the procedure the same for the 1.6 version of this Duratec engine? (Looks identical). Also, out of interest, what was the mileage of this car to have the belt in that condition? Thanks!
Hello Richard, try Diesel Electric on 021 706 5552 for the tool kit, it would be the same for the 1.6 and the mileage on the one in the video was 150k
@@vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790 Thanks for the info Gary!
Hi Gary, love your videos... Are you based in Cape Town and if so, what would a cam belt and tensioner replacement cost? Parts and labor?
I am based in Cape Town Kyle, this job is R5500 including the water pump, cam belt, tensioner and long-life antifreeze.
Do you have the link on how to replace the aircon compressor fan belt ??? Would love that too.
Sorry no, Sifiso, but try google.
Thanks lots of help . were can I purchase locking tools
Diesel Electric 0217065552
Hie brother thnx it's a very informative video my figo just reached 150 wht kindf of service or things should I change but it is still in good condition
No problem
SAMCOR designed that engine to be easy to assemble at the plant, and to make it easy to install on that Rosslyn line, saving time there. they figured out that most would not need the belt changed till out of warranty, so the load of work to get to the parts. For those in warranty they used the time it takes to get the belt changed based on the time it takes to put it in in the first place. At least you do not have to take the front of the vehicle off, or remove inlet and exhaust manifolds..... As usual some of those studs decided to not agree with you on coming undone, so you need to put the stud in first, then get the bolt back in place. At least that 8mm spanner is going to get use again. At least the front seal was not weeping, though probably at 100k the water pump change would be a good idea as well, seeing as you have to just about do the entire job again to get to the bolts for it as well.
Thanks for the insights Sean, always greatly appreciated.
Where can I get the timing tool for this fiesta I have one came in from engine rebuild with a rod knock.
Diesel Electric (0217065552 Mo) is where I sourced mine from.
Very well done video. I really like the way you work and film. One question: how did you loosened the waterpump pulley? Because it seems pretty difficult, because is spinning around freely.. and if I may ask..where are you from? Which country? I like your accent! 😁🤗
you just need to use a screwdriver and wedge it between 2 of the bolts holding the pulley so it stops the pulley turning as you loosen one of the other bolts and then just loosen all bolts in turn. he sounds like he is from either Zimbabwe or South Africa
Very helpful video thank you. However you used the locking pin, which is only meant for doing up the bolt, to time the engine. The timing pin is the thinnest one, 5mm diameter; that is what you set the timing to if you want to be spot on. Also the pulley bolt should be torqued and then angle-tightened through a further 90 degrees as it is a torque to yield bolt. Just buzzing it with a gun is imprecise though probably works but if it doesn't and the pulley slips you wreck the engine.
Watch the video completely again please, I am a 35-year-plus veteran mechanic I know what I am doing because I do it for a living, experience beats theory hands down.
Where can i get the special tool to set or block the cem please tell me the shop?
Give Diesel Electric a try on 021 706 5552
Thank you. Keep it up. Can you please o a water pump change on the figo please
Thanks, Ray Man, with your support by visiting my channel I can really keep going.
Great work Gary, unfortunately I’m in Gauteng I would have paid you a visit for the cam belt. Any other trusted colleagues you have this side that can assist me?
Unfortunately, no Jabulane, wishing you good luck, I hope you find a trustworthy mechanic there.
Thank you thank you
You are very welcome
why you did not change water pump?is it optioanl?so ı mean when we change cam belt do we have to change water pump?
It is recommended to replace the water pump while you are there, but only if it was never replaced before, this one was done a short while before this cam belt job.
Hi can you please supply torque spec for crankshaft bolt. Regards André
You Must replace the bolt (use new bolt) 100nm then 90 degrees wait 10 seconds, then 15 degrees Thank You for supporting my channel with your visit and interaction, I am pleased this video was helpful to you. I got mine from Diesel Electric, try google, Keenan.
Hi Gary, great video very professional. I see you are based in Cape Town. Wish you were closer as I am in Joburg, Randburg. I would have liked it if you could have done my cambelt on my figo. Do you perhaps know anyone here in Joburg who is as meticulous as you that I can go too. Thanks, Des
Hi Des, thanks for supporting my channel with your visit, I, unfortunately, do not know anyone in your neck of the woods I could recommend, sorry about that, I wish you the best of luck in finding someone reliable and knowledgeable. Gary

@@vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790 Ek moet sê u werk deeglik en professional. Ek sal u kontak dankie.
The torqe on the bolt that attach the crank pulley could be 40 - 45 Nm then 90deg
I recommend 100nm then 90 degrees, Leon, it is mentioned at timmer count 19.54 in the video.
Anyone can help me with torque specs for begend and rods for the 1.4 durtec
No torque specs for this motor. The block and crank has to be replaced as a unit, sorry.
I wish everyone can just explain things this simply. Where does one get the kit with the plate and pins?
Hi Jaco, thanks for visiting my channel, try Diesel Electric 0217065552 for the timing kit.
@@vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790 thanks. Will give them a ring
He dont show me the position of the camshaft
Never done one but I reckon if no ones at TDC,the camshafts are in a position that the locking tool fits properly, if not the camshaftlocking tool.wont fit.
Enjin was designed in 3hrs. Then they spend 12 mnths redesigning so I can not work on it.
Hahaha, Johan, you hit the nail on the head, some of these design engineers are unholy, it seems their mission is to punish Mechanics and DIYers equally, thanks for your support and wonderful interaction/feedback. Gary
Ok ok ok ok boss
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Don't get it twisted this is not easy
