  • The reason BYD is not in the US yet is not because the lack of infracture. BYD is reluctant because its success in the US may end up getting the "Huawei" treatment and being sanctioned to oblivion due to "national security" concern.

    • No if BYD was being sold in the US it would be much more expensive since the reason it’s so cheap in China is from subsidiaries that don’t apply to foreign made vehicles. The US doesn’t have these subsidies and the US also have different regulations that would need to be met on a state by state basis which is more complex then producing vehicles in China

If you don't call it "subsidies," you obviously have a different definition of subsidies than anyone else. 3. the US has different regulations on vehicle emissions in different states. • In 2022, China's automobile production and sales accounted for one-third of the world's. In the past many years, Ford and General Motors of the United States sold more cars in China than in the United States. In fact, the China automobile market saved these American automobile companies that had filed for bankruptcy protection and were on the verge of bankruptcy. China has the whole industrial chain in various industrial fields, so US can't compete with China at all, so it can only take unfair government subsidies to crowd out other countries' products. On the contrary, the current policy of China government is that EV sales made in China or all other countries will not receive any government subsidies.

    • LOL.. No. China doesn't believe in free competition. China literally banned South Korean EV battery makers like from making/selling EV batteries back 2015 when LG Chem first opened their first battery factory in 2015. Most folks outside China doesn't believe it's a mere coincidence that Hyundai's EVs are not selling in China pure due to "free competition." But no worries, Biden is copying China's successful anticompetitive, discriminatory EV/battery policies to promote America manufacturing!

      @tooltalk@tooltalk Жыл бұрын
    • @@tooltalk Nonsense. LG Chem battery was and is still in use in China but the amount is insignificant. There are plenty of studies now on how China protected their market in egregiously anticompetitve, discriminatory ways -- which btw became the model for Biden's new domestic battery manufacturing policy. No Chinese battery companies can compete without blatant protection or exclusive subsidies (which is illegal under their WTO pledges made in 2001). This is fairly well known -- LG Chem lost most of their orders in China after their MIC batteries were to be excluded from subsidies shortly after they opened Nanjing factory in Oct 2015 and later China cut all subsidies for EVs equipped their batteries. LG was forced to sell their factory and make unnecessary changes to their plan while other South Korean companies were refused licenses to do business at all, unless ... According to China's protectionism threatening LG Chem, Samsung SDI, 2016-08-03 17:06, Korea Times: "China is said to have pressured the Koreans to open up their core technologies to Chinese domestic EV companies in return for approving the Korean companies, which complicates the matter, said a report by Bernstein Research. Mercator Institute for China Studies, Oct 24, 2018 "Changes in the regulatory scheme also drained demand for batteries from LG Chem. The Korean company was put in a predicament that allegedly led to the sale of the company’s Nanjing battery plant - including the rights to use its manufacturing technology - to Chinese auto manufacturer Geely in April last year." No worries though, these South Korean companies that were unfairly discriminated from China are now well now -- is expected to take as much as 75% of global battery market share outside China, or as much as 90% in the US in 3-4 years.

In fact chips used in automobiles don't really require cutting edge fabs at 10nm or smaller for instance -- most are still at much older 28+nm. And no we are nowhere close o achiving autonomous driving -- not in 5 or 10 years. The only thing worth talking about the state of China's EV industry is how China became dominant in battery manufacturing in most egregiously anti-competitive and disciminatory manner: when LG chem opened their first Chinese battery factory in Nanjing in Oct 2015, China's battery industry was young and tiny. China quickly greeted foreign competitor by taking away their battery subsidies by changing their regulation; then took away later all EV buyer subsidies for EV equipped with their batteries, even if they were made in China. They were refused to licenses to do business unless in exchange of their superior NMC battery tech. "China's protectionism threatening LG Chem, Samsung SDI," 2016-08-03, Korea Times: "... China is said to have pressured the Koreans to open up their core technologies to Chinese domestic EV companies in return for approving the Korean companies, which complicates the matter, said a report by Bernstein Research. ..." Mercator Institute for China Studies, Oct 24, 2018 "... Changes in the regulatory scheme also drained demand for batteries from LG Chem. The Korean company was put in a predicament that allegedly led to the sale of the company’s Nanjing battery plant - including the rights to use its manufacturing technology - to Chinese auto manufacturer Geely in April last year."

    • We'll see just how low Tesla can go pricing wise in China. Their sales inside China has essentially been flat for 6 straight quarters dating back to 2021-Q4, and the only reason they maintained their sales levels are price cuts in late Q3 or 2022 and early Jan of 2023. Those 2 quick cuts one after another already added up to 18% cut on their Chinese pricing, and the mother of all price wars in the Chinese auto industry is still going on. They just might have to cut prices at least one or two more times again in the rest of 2023 just to keep their current sales numbers stable.

Huawei has the Hongmeng vehicle-machine system, which is perfectly compatible with my Huawei phone, and has excellent experience. Huawei also has the Hud, massage chair, seat heating, and the most important of all, the Huawei ADS2.0 smart driving system. The smart driving performance in China is far better than that of Tesla.
