I think the fact Aang was literally responsible for the entire world, as well as an entire culture is important to consider before we toss around judgment. He wasn't bad to his other kids. He just lived for a purpose, and like many people of purpose was often distracted from all else
Considering that he was not only the last airbender (at least until Tenzin was born) and also the avatar, it's safe to say he had a massive responsibility to bear in his lifetime, so it's understandable that he would feel pressured to prioritize those duties even if it was at the cost of his family life. The fact that people think he wasn't good to his kids as a father shows that they don't understand how big of a responsibility Aang had, given the circumstances in which he had to live through during his lifetime
It's literally just bad writing. Aang is all about more the merrier and loves sharing his culture, he literally had a group of air acolytes who he shared air nomad culture with, so why would he turn around and npt share it with his own children? It's simply bad writing. In the rift comic, we see how much aang loves sharing his culture, to the point he was quite mad at toph for refusing to take part. And yes, people change but in anags case no. The fact aang had acolytes eveb when he was older proves that no, he didn't change and still lives sharing his culture. Furthermore, aang being a bad father would make katara a bad mother because she let her husband neglect her other kids. Which also would make very little sense. Especially when you consider how katara felt when her dad left, you'd know she never let her children go through that aswell. But since it wasn't actually confirmed, and we only got bumi and kyas perspective, we don't known if it's actually true. Bumi and kya are old, fr all we know they could've been bluffing. But yeah, there's no justifying it, it's simply horrible writing and doenst go with aangs charecter at all.
@@bunniesrunup you reasoning about Katara being a bad mom makes no sense. She's a bad mom cause she can't corral the strongest and busiest person alive to spend time with his kids? All she could do was step up and try to be mom and dad, having to do that doesn't make you a bad parent. She could have also sulked around at the fact that her husband was rarely around,or just retreated all together but she didn't and ALL her kids love and respect her.
According to 2/3 of his kids he wasn't there for them. He was a neglectful parent and while he had reasons to be it doesn't change the fact that he was. Also, Tenzin obviously proved the man had enough time to spend with his kids but only the one he favored. That's not good parenting.
@@ajrod2005 what? Did u even read what I said? Saying aang aas busy is a shit excuse because he was still bake to make them for tenzin lmao. What makes kataang a beautiful ship is that they always keep eachither in check. There'd no way katara would sit around and let her husband neglect her kids. It's that simple. Aang being busy, again, makes no sense, as he always managed to spend time with tenzin.
7:24 lmao I love how Zuko joked about how he used to track Aang down to capture him when they were kids. He said “I’ll track you down one way or another, my friend.”
Lol
The shame is we might never see Aang again in the story due to what korra did😞 I really hope they retcon what korra did cause having those past lives is what really made the avatar so powerful.
Ikr
It is my ONLY issue with LoK tbh. I found it a fine show otherwise, never understood the hate except for the hate on that part. Don't get me wrong I understand why they did it, but, it's still a writing decision I don't like and felt they didn't need to make it.
what did korra do? bc i’m pretty sure Una-Vaatu broke the connection ….
@@blackwingaf You said it, Korra did NOTHING wrong there.
what did korra do
The final moments he shared with his family will literally never fail to make me cry. I know the cycle continues endlessly, but knowing that we won’t get another ‘Avatar Aang’ really hurts me 😭💔 I don’t think any avatar will ever be like him, one of a kind truly.
The new series should fulfill that wish. I doubt they'll do a scene for scene remake, so he's basically another Aang
@@hollywoodguy70 and I’m 10000% here for it 🥹
We're getting a movie set a few years after the events of tla
@@kelvinb16 I know, and I’ll be one of the first viewers lol ☺️

They honestly should’ve made a series where all of the Last Airbender characters were in their early adults years
I think they are working on a movie
@@rebel2191yh
Funny you mention that... They're working on that exact thing, it's supposed to release as an animated movie!
@@notisac3149 they better not make it cheesy the same way as legend of Korra, I honestly didn’t like it cause she was trying to prove she’s some sort of “badass” when it just made it cringy
@zachnoe4503 korra was not a cheesy show lol
I wish they had continued angs story instead of skipping to kora. Even if it was done in broad strokes.
Exactly
I don't like korra Only loving avtar Aang
Man, I would love a story about Gyatso and how he dealt with losing Aang. I'm sure he felt like a father figure to him, and losing him without ever knowing what happened was devastating.
it would be depressing af. especially cause all the air benders get wiped out a bit later
The problem with the notion that Aang is a bad father goes back to who he is: The Avatar. It's not that Aang was intentionally neglectful. He wanted to be there for all his children. But as Avatar Yangchen stated "but the Avatar can never do that. Your sole duty is TO the world." Aang had to put everything in his life second to his duty as the Avatar and bring balance to a world left in shambles after a century of war. This includes restoring the Air Nomad culture that was all but lost during the genocide.
well yes, that can explain the favoritism to tenzin- a new master to teach the next avatar. But at the same time, he was trying to keep his culture and bloodline in tact. Who knows if either of the non benders will have airbending kids down the line. Tenzin was as sure of a bet as possible, in terms of both teaching airbending, making more benders, and contining to share, and recreate his culture and home.
Aang's dedication to maintaining balance in the world is definitely a factor in his struggle for maintaining balance in his family, but I think his upbringing is an overlooked factor as well. Aang was raised not by his parents, but by the monks as a community; he did not have a model of parenting in a nuclear family and may have struggled with his role as a father. While he had Gyatso for companionship and social support, it's still not the same as having a dedicated father. Their relationship was largely based around mentorship of Air Nomad culture and airbending -- which clearly played heavily in his relationship with Tenzin and may have felt more natural to him regarding how to nurture. I'm really curious about Aang's reaction to the birth of his children, especially with Tenzin being the youngest. No doubt he had to feel some disappointment (in addition to deep affection) when he and Katara had a non-bender and waterbender first, given his desire to revive the Air Nomads. Perhaps all that anticipation, finally realized with Tenzin, also added to his lopsided attention for Tenzin.
I love how monks are peaceful warriors that don't harm others, but monk giatsu was surrounded by a thousand bones. Meaning bro murdered so man fire nation fighters before he went out. Air bending is probably the most op element
In theory, an airbender could create a vacuum, eliminating breathable oxygen from the lungs of firebenders, and making it so that their fire won’t burn properly.
@RiceCube Tech imagine getting punched in the arm by an air bender and that cause all the blood cells in that specific area of your body to explode because the cells are carrying oxygen. Or picture getting punched in the chest and your lungs explode
@@RiceCubeTech Or simply blow waves of air at fire to unignite it
@@Bate.v19 or just having the air in your lungs expand violently from a guy standing 20 ft away with just one motion.
It does make me wonder what happened there though; the other air temples were cleared of bodies and bones, and generally a victorious army will make the effort to bury their own dead with honours, not leave them to rot on the ground.
0:33 , wow, nice fanart to see Sokka's spirit to carry up Aang.
actually aang died before sokka but i like the fanart too.
Oha yine türk buldum
This art makes no sense. Aang died first. We know this cause at some point Sokka met Korra
Aang died first, reason :in legend of korra season 3 tonraq says to korra , "when you were a kid the red lotus came to attack, at that time katara, chief sokka and some important characters fought against red lotus"
@@90sprinceofcrime67 how sokka met korra
Great video. Pity about the Sokka pictures. We canonically know Sokka outlived Aang, as Tenzin describes Chief Sokka being one of the architects responsible for Zaheer's defeat.
Aang had to save the world in his teens, and probably saved it more than once after ATLA. He create a nation, sustain that nation from attacks, teach MASTERY of AIRBENDING to his son, find and take care of flying bison, and on top of all that be a father to two kids as well as be a caring loving husband. Also somehow he still kept friendship with the Avatar Group. That's insane for any human to even try to accomplish.
The fact that seeing sang say goodbye to his family made me tear up a bit can’t wait to see the earth style avatar
How the Korra series used Aang made my blood boil. One of my only issues with the series. Aang should have been a guide and mentor for Korra like Roku had done for him. It would have been the perfect progression for his character. Instead he’s basically “killed” off at the end of Season 2 after barely interacting with Korra at all outside of sending her flashback visions and teaching her energy bending in Season 1, and speaking to her once in Season 2.
It's one of my MANY issues with the series. I don't like the fact that the cowards brought back Zuko and Toph as fan service after it's all but confirmed in the FIRST EPISODE that Katara is the sole living member of the original gang BUT by playing some word games they retconned that, maybe after I've made enough of a stink about it, they'll retcon Sokka to have always been alive and kicking using the logic that Katara was talking about a younger half-brother because it's just as honest! Damn it I hate Legend of Korra.
yeah, but that would have probably felt too rehashed. They probably wanted to keep their story beats new and fresh. not that they did a great job... COUGH COUGH LIGHT SPIRIT
@@abrahamedelstein4806 they never said Toph and Zuko were dead tho, Katara said her brother and many of her friends were gone. She’s lived a long life, let’s not act like in her 90 something years of life that she’s never made any friends besides Toph and Zuko. There was no word game, unless someone comes out and says otherwise assume they are alive
If Aang live to 166 years, I think Katara would have to be a little older that in her 90s.
@NateSupreme why? Ignore the 100 years, he was only 66, Katara is only 2 years older, Korra is 17 making Katara 85, the time timeskips should sit her right at 90
This makes me wanna read the comics on aang after he beat the fire lord wow there's more to his avatar journey I swear he did the most
You should read both the A: TLA and LOK comics. They're great.
@@Wright805are the comics online? If so, can you send the link please?
Due to the poison Korra is most likely going to die “young” for an avatar. I imagine it’s gonna be an excuse as to why she dies early for the next avatar series
I dont think shell die early tho. Shell proably die in her 80s
Bruh lmao they’re not going to make her die the same way as Aang
@@ElementMucho Wdym, it wasn't the same, Aang died because his body survived waaay too long in the iceburg draining his lifeforce, Korra got attacked by poison that should have killed her and even after she got rid of it, it has still left a mark on her, because of that she could die young because of the poison that was circulating inside of her that might of damaged her lifeforce enough.
Kyoshi and Aang were exceptions. In 10000 years, we know that there has been nearly 200 Avatars (according to unofficial sources, Aang should be number 170,174,178,182,186, or 190, because Air is the second element in the cycle it would follow 4x+2 with x representing the number of completed cycles). Kuruk is the youngest recorded death in his mid-thirties, Kyoshi is by far the oldest at 210. If you account for Aang and Kyoshi by removing 376 years from 10000 and divide by 180 (for simplicity, Korra and Wan are counted together as Korra fills in the gap in Wans life before his harmonic convergence) you'd get an average of approximately 66 years, which makes sense if you look at the life of an important being constantly getting into fights. Assassination, overestimating their own talent, underestimating their opponent, extreme natural disaster (Roku), or dying in combat due to age. Kyoshi learned how to extend her life, and Aang died at 66 biologically because of his century on ice. They are stand outs and unrealistic in the grand scheme of things, especially when you look at the Water avatars we know of, Kuruk and Korra, and the absolute struggle they had constantly (in Kuruk's case, after he lost his bride to Koh and stopped messing around). We know from the setting of the next Avatar show that Korra likely hits 80. It's supposed to jump from the roaring twenties to near modern-day technologically. With bending serving as reason for non benders to accelerate the industrial advancement, it could be slightly quicker than in reality.
@@jecrex8349 To be fair, you're most likely correct, ngl.
I would’ve preferred if Aang passed in his own bed with his friends and family around him. Sokka: See ya in the next life, bro. Toph: bye, Twinkle Toes. *hides tear* Zuko: I’ll find you again, buddy. Aang: *turned to Katara* Thanks for Penguin sledding with me. Katara too sad to speak. Later, Tenzin woefully realizes: I’m the last Airbender.

You really got nothing to do other than obsess this show... Which i can respect
Bro shut up kid
He had is in the first half, not gonna lie
Seriously... what an amazing universe that was created... I love this show so much.
What's incredible is that he was already a master before the events of the series. He is also very much a kid, with goofiness and immaturity, so it's easy to forget that even before he knew he was the Avatar, he was still an absolute prodigy who got a taste of what it's like to be a regular human who is exceptional. Must have been a cool childhood, to experience that without the weight of the world resting on him.
This show was so epic. I owned every season on dvd. Recently started Korra with my wife and neither of us enjoyed it nearly as much as TLA
Me too
i tried korra many times but never finished it, ATLA just hit different man watchin it over and over since a kid
For anyone who thinks Korra’s connection to the past avatars severation is permenant, read this: If you don’t know, there’s a running theory or plot line that every avatar has been cursed to fix the previous avatars mistakes. S’Zeto a fire avatar ignored the Earth, Water, and Air nations and solely focused on bettering the Fire Nation specifically, leaving Yangchen, the air avatar after him to spend all her time focusing on international problems to fix what S’Zeto started, but neglecting the spiritual duties of the avatar. Which caused the avatar after Yangchen, Avatar Kuruk to spend his life fixing the spiritual problems but neglecting the physical world which led to infighting and civil wars in the earth kingdom. Which Kyoshi the earth avatar after Kuruk had to fix, but by focusing on that she neglected international problems and let wars start, which Roku had to fix blahblahblah and then he started the 100 year war which Aang had to fix and he neglected air nation blahblahblah then Korra had to fix that in LOK. Point being, if this eternal trend holds up, this next earth avatar should fix Korra’s biggest mistake, letting the ties between her past lives be severed.
I hope so
The avatar show has so much potential

Great video aang is one of my favorites characters
Damn I cried 😭
Aang creates air acolytes but he doesn't teach his daughter and non bender son about it? Why did they make Aang like this it completely ruins his character because I'm sure he would have been thrilled to teach ALL of his children air culture and even airbending forms.
I know his character did a 180 all of a sudden it's just weird for his character
He tried, but they weren't interested; so Aang focused more on Tenzin
Teaching Tenzin was more important, who do u think will teach future avatar air bending after aang's gone?
The other kids didn't seem into it, so I guess aang didn't wanna force them into it
They weren’t interested in it
Man, would I love a story driven open/semi open world game based on Aang
Bro those old days is unforgivable!
This is the earliest video I got! Yay!!
Congrats on 1 million views, TheAvatarist🎉🥳
Anng and the other avatars are not gone the connection is only gone
Yea its kind of true, tho the connection is why aang kept returning in the legend of korra. without connection, they wont return in the series
From Aang’s point of view he only lived 66 years because he was in the ice for 100 years when he was 12 and didn’t know it
Thank you for this video
The way Aang dies further confirms a gripe i have with terminology in the show, the Avatar is NOT a being that re-incarnates... rather the Mantle of Avatar is passed from generation to generation. it makes much more sense to describe it this way.
The art is amazing 🎨
I cannot imagine 100 years of guilt from the Avatar encasing yourself an iceberg and then there is a war killing your friends and your teachers adios mios I wondered through the long years anag just finally found peace 🤞

I really like that you put licht und schatten on this
I have watched this cartoon series back in college (may sound weird) ever since it has taught me a lot about how to live my life. Watching this video, although knowing everything has to come an end, it literally brought years to my eyes. I just love this series! (Watched only the first 3 seasons, didn't want to ruin the impression it gave me over the years)
We still need to know about roku and aangs parents who were they who raised them
Everyone knows this he didn’t have parents he was raised by the monks
Why are you keeping asking dumb questions? If you know the Show, you know the details.
He didn't ask a dumb question in my opinion, he asked a legitimate question, although we know and understand that monks raised and after he was born, we don't know much about Roku's parents, we only know about Roku's best friend Sozin, Roku's wife ta min Roku's daughter rina and Roku's granddaughter ursa, but nothing about his parents, who I think we're fire nation nobles close to Firelord Sozin's parents
Pulls on the heart strings for sure.
Dude you are the best. It is safe and 100 works
Imaging that you are the last airbender in entire whole world, try to "create" new airbender but no, non-bender and waterbender come out, that would be really painful. Tenzin maybe is the most important thing in his life. Kya and Bumi, even Katara maybe should understand how important Tenzin is, so Aang treated him differently. Call him is a bad father would be a little harsh for him.
@youngmaster if you’re watching this one it did say what earlier told you about air nomad Tattoo rituals, which was “ the only way an air nomad gets their tattoos is either they gain the title of air bending master or when they Turn 16 years old “ so this video just noted that the one earlier Quote was true about air bending culture, so I told you this was right an while back….if you remember what I said on that commentary…( see part age 6-12 in the video) because in series 2 the ceremony is call “the anointing ceremony “
Which only concludes that if any air nomads who had survived the attacks of the air temples as an earlier video theorized they would have had to be ones under 16 years old, to have been the ancestors of the ones whose powers of air bending were repressed or not passed down to their descendants who couldn’t use air bending until after harmonic convergence in series 2 canon lore ( see season 3 ) because I mentioned all of this in the video from this webpage on KZhead with (the Ty-lee air nomad theory video ) made by this video’s web creator an while back ….
you earned a sub❤
Amazing job 😂
in the books Kyoshi was taught by her friend (Whom I forgot their name) the way they had achieve immortality
so hear me out. a 15-20 episode series of just episodes each having a avatar in their prime just doing something cool/ training/ or a mission.
Avatar the last air bender was the most melancholic kids series ever. One of a kind. Makes my heart sad to hear that Aang was one of a kind.
This was one of the few shows that I loved as a child.
#14th comment! I love your vids! They’re so educational in the Avatar Realm!
I would like to point out that logically speaking and died at the age of 178 because he was 12 when he went in the ice and he lived for another 66 years so that would make him 178
We know the exact timestamp for Aang's death because Korra was born at the exact same time. Aang had one heck of a life for an Avatar and was truly one of the best Avatars to ever exist. He united the world after the war ended. Korra just helped to mop up what problems were left afterwards and reversing the separation the Avatar Juan did between the spirit world and the human world was a questionable decision, but something only the Avatar can really do.
4:47 Aang and Zuko are such good friends and holding hands! I know how that can be seen and I get that people either ship them or see themselves in that and I also think this is a brotherhood for them.
I hate that Aang wasn't great to his other kids. I feel like that's not true to Aang's character. Ik having so much responsibility can be very tough and it becomes easy to neglect things, but Aang was so wise and seemed to have genuine care for everyone, that it doesn't seem like he'd neglect his non-airbender kids. While it does make sense that Aang would be so focused on rebuilding the Air Nomads and Tenzin would prob be his favorite child, I still refuse to believe Aang would neglect his other children to the point where they'd feel so much hurt even years after his passing. TLOK seemed to tackle many social issues and I imagine that this kind of parenting is one of those, but it felt unfair to Aang's character imo. Then again maybe it just shows us that not everything and everyone is perfect, but it still hurts me to see how Aang's children feel about their relationship with him.
Aang’s duty as the avatar comes first. I wonder if this sort of thing has happened before with a nation nearly going extinct and it being up to the avatar to restore it.
Aang should have taken more than one wife realistically
Huh? Aang wasn't 55-59 in "clearing the air". Aang was 31 when Tenzin was born, who is, what, maybe fifteen at the time of this comic? This would make him 46 here.
Great job😂
It’s a shame that we keep thinking Korra will live a long life but she died at 39, like 14 years after the show ended
0:33 but didn't sokka help fight off the red lotus when they tried to kidnap Korra? So shouldn't he be alive?
Yeah, this pic is inaccurate.
For everyone still hating on LoK for "killing off the previous Avatars". It did no such thing. Remember how the Spirit World works, as shown in LoK. In order to contact a spirit, you must FIND that spirit. Vaatu only broke the connection that allowed the Avatar to contact their previous lives largely at will. All other knowledge of them exists. The spirits of the previous Avatars still exist. One of the tasks Korra may undertake is finding and reestablishing those connections. Perhaps she passes this task along, through the remnants of Team Korra, to Genji or whomever the canon Earth incarnation is. Perhaps this is a new ability that makes the Avatar even stronger. In the same way that Aang brought Energy Bending into the Avatar repertoire, so too may Korra bring "Spirit Connection", allowing the Avatar to form connections with the spirits they deem important. Once those connections are formed, successive Avatars can call upon these connections to learn from the spirit again and again. Imagine how powerful the Avatar could become if they always had a connection to Uncle Iroh.
That could be really good story line …. In order to make connections with the previous avatars the new earth Avatar meets the spirits of previous avatars and in order to make connections they all tell him their life story (which would be really cool cause that way we will get to see all the avatars)😭😭
why do i wanna cry now
How is this not a TV show? I’m gonna watch all the episodes before I go to bed.
Finally closure on how Aang passed away R.I.P
I really like legend of korra but I don't like how they treated the original characters. making kya and bumi feel neglected by aang really sucks even though it's realistic since he had so many responsibilities. making toph a bad mom also felt weird to me, but I guess it's just because I was attached to these characters and hate seeing them mess up so bad. I'm just happy zuko and katara weren't ever said to be bad parents and I genuinely hope that doesn't happen in future comics or upcoming movie
Aang deserved better. too many responsibilities was pushed to him. and he had to deal with all of them. to me his life is considered to be a tragedy. filled with flickers of joy.
One of the best avatars in our generation
Did the other avatars like Kyoshi not live longer? She died at 230 y/o without the ice ball coma.
She lived that long cause a earth technique
Dudeee why did you change the thumbnail?!💀😩
bro that shot of aang saying bye to appa really messed me up

Sokka saying to his brother take my hand and aang accepts🖐
I think DiMartino and Konietzko should do a short movie based on the last moments of Aang's time connecting to Korra's last moments leading up to the start of the next avatar in the cycle. Would give us a proper send off and see how it will give a clue to the next avatar who's life's work would be dedicated to mending the broken to the past Avatars. Not talking about a complete retcon here, but I think it would be a near impossible ordeal for the next generation to overcome whatever new evils that shall arise. Maybe the creators are working on something like that idk lol
Roku: “You’re Avatar state drained your life energy to keep you alive.” Kyoshi at 230 yrs old: “Pathetic…”
This was sad,All due to Korra’s actions we may NEVER see the avatar Aang again, we might see the next avatar after Korra restore the power of connecting with past avatars. We always will remember Aang Katara, and their entire legacy, from airbender to avatar
I would teach the kids all the steps about our culture
Are we not going to address how pissed aang would be finding out they made a statue of him?
5:07 hurting air bison, what a great avatar
It is how they write the line and each of their story line.
Technically, if you think on it. Avatar Aang lived 212 years. Aang was frozen with his baison at age of 12 for 100 years till he awoken by two of his friends. Then he spent the last 100 years developing and growing.
No he was only alive for another 54 years before he died
The next earth avatar's journey may be to restore the connections Korra Lost and because if it's not restored he can't be empowered by their power and energy and won't be powerful as his predecessors automatically. Because one power of Korra's won't be strong since he's not mastered the 4 elements
Aang actually had the shortest lifespan if you don’t count the 100 years he was frozen.
The fact that people can't understand that an imperfect parent does not equal a bad parent is concerning. Having Aang be an imperfect father only expands his character. It shows that with all the power and wisdom he gained, he's still human. He struggled balancing all of his worldly duties, his family, the United Republic, and trying to preserve the Air Nomad culture. The latter being something that probably only increased in urgency for him in his final years.
He lived a long life even though he died before everyone else
Except Sokka's
Well the end make make me tearbend, actually :,[
