What was believed to be a tight, close series, the Avalanche have walked all over the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets have no answers and are letting the Ads do literally anything they want. This falls squarely on the shoulders of Rick Bowness and his staff.

  • To some extent you have to give the Jets a slight break and acknowledge that the Avs just look razor sharp, looking like a threat to possibly repeat . Im sure the Jets couldve handled VAN or Nashville, but the Avs look world class again

Now, I’m probably delusional, but I’m hoping for the best for tomorrow night since it is home ice and I’m really rooting for the boys to come back and win this series. Now I completely blame Rick because he continuously believes on something that never works and probably something that would never work, but the boys need to show up too. The core 'stars' on this team have not stepped up and lose nearly every battle, can't make breakout passes, and can't stay out of the penalty box, and just can't make plays. That's on the players, has nothing to do with systems. Some guys rise the the occasion of the playoffs and some do not. You can't adjust for lack of heart and determination.

  • I 1000% agree. Last year there was no pushback. This year no strategy. The Av's have looked dominant since the start even in game #1 I felt the Jets were lucky the clock ran out on the Av's. To me at no time has the Jets looked like they had the Av's figured out. You can't say all year the PP and PK lose you games and not do anything and then the team takes 4 minors not 8 and lets 2 PP goals in to lose and blame the team for taking penalties. All year the coaching staff played not to lose. It's great to be defensively sound but we have numerous offensive weapons, big bodies, there is barely a less than 20 goal scorer in our forward group (if Perfetti was playing) and yet the Jets were 15th in the league in offense. Honestly, to me, the Jets look like they can't play because the coach wants the game to be a specific way. Why not go balls to the wall with Colorado at least they won then. I think that the team is so focused on not making mistakes that they make mistakes and it costs them. Every line seems to be paralyzed by thought, not reaction. They are not reacting and letting their skill take over.

You can have structure and play the right way, but at the end of the day you have to want it more than your opponent. The Jets don't want it more, and that comes down to individual players stepping up. The regular season means nothing in the NHL.

    • I get the frustration but this is why I think your comment is silly. Bones offensively neutered them and made them a defensive team which was good over the long run but not in the playoffs. We have numerous offensive weapons on the team yet they were #15 in scoring and #22 on the PP. The Jets are built for depth offensively not defensively. How many 20+ goal scorers do they have? Connor, Scheifele, Vilardi, Ehlers, Monohan, Toffoli, Perfetti, Nino, then Appleton, Lowry, Namesnikov, Iafallo, Barron, as the next tier and yet they're middle of the pack in the NHL?? The Jets had 1 player in the top 50 in scoring and 1 more in the top 75 in the NHL. 2 more in the top 100 (3 if you count Monohan) for a total of 5 in the top 100 for an offensively built team. The team always says they don't want to run and gun but why not, they won. Teach offensive players 1 defensive thing but teach them to score more. There is zero reason the Jets should not be top 3-5 in scoring in the NHL. For the entire year the coach has said the PK and PP have lost games for them yet seems to be surprised that 4 minor penalties lose them games. The Jets have been dominated from Game #1 that's a coaching issue. At no point have the Jets looked like they have the Av's figured out and that's a coaching issue. The Avs coaching clearly looked at the losses this year and came up with a game plan. The only reason the Jets won Game #1 was because Gorgiev was terrible. If the Jets had something to look at to say this is what beats the Avs then they'd have a template but they don't that's on the coach. But after Game 2 or 3 could have said let's go back to doijng what we did in Game #1 because that's the game we won. Just let Helle be better which he was last night. The Jets wanted it in Game #1 even if the Av's were hot on their heels but I bet you anything Coach drilled a bunch of improvements into them after Game #1, about not playng that way that we have seen hasn't worked. The mentality of the coaching staff should be to race with them, not try to stop them. To say we have 12 forwards who can score and they have less so go and score and when you can try to defend but race up ice, not overthink it. This "push back" idea is BS, the Coach should have taught them to push and get the other team to push back. In game # 1 the Avs had to push back and lost. All season the Jets took it to them and when they took it to them they were more successful than not. I have not seen a mentality of taking it to the Av's this series. The Coach should have trusted the team to be able to beat the Avs straight up but he didn't. He wanted them to stem their offense. That's a losing strategy. To beat the Avs you have to attack, attack, attack forget if you make mistakes, let Helle deal with that, but instead they talk about containing Mckinnion, or Makar. The coaches should have trusted that they learned something defensively but pushed the mentality of attacking the Av's not containment. That to me is the issue both this year and last year. The team with Dallas, Vega, Edmonton, Avs should be we can outscore them and we are the best defensive team and have the best goalie when THEY push back. You have to eat these teams at their own game. The Jets are better offensively but the coaches to me don't trust them offensively. They need to shove that puck down their throats, that's how they win. Instead, they're afraid of Colorado's offense. The coach is afraid of Col offense. Just look at his comments about 4 minor penalties. Ehlers is useless to me because he's constantly told "defense, defense, safe plays, etc." I bet you Mcdavid, or Mckinnion aren't told to make safe plays. They're there to burn the other team and only smart Centers like Scheifele get Ehlers. To me, this year it's absolutely a coaching issue.

  • Not really a fair assessment. Some coaching decisions have been bad but it was coaching that got them here. The team seems to be playing regular season hockey rather than playoff hockey. They get the puck and they wait until they are engaged by the Avalanche before they get their feet moving. They also are not moving fast enough to pressure the Avalanche and the Avalanche are using speed to disrupt the Jets system. The Jets were beat by the Vegas Golden Knights twice in the playoffs (2018 and 2023) because they did not step up to the tempo required. It's all a bit odd because when the Jets were successful during the regular season it was because they were skating fast and maximizing their chances based on Bones' system which in my mind emulated some of the things that made the Knights successful. The Jets were doing so well at disrupting other teams because they were often outnumbering the opposition and creating situations where they had a 3 on 2 on zone entries, or they had such a strong back check that they would have 4 on 3 situations if the other team was even successful at navigating the neutral zone and entering the Jets zone then they would transition back quickly to offense by using the weak side D to jump up in the play rather than the strong side winger (who was usually on the wall chipping the puck up and out). They were using cycling and switch plays so often in the O zone that other teams kept making mistakes on defensive coverage and retrieving the puck off the wall or from behind the net almost always with a second man in support faster than other teams so they were able to maintain possession. Watching that team play was really fun....right now, they are not moving fast enough to make these plays happen. These types of plays are all tactical and clearly have Bones' finger prints all over them.

Certainly the special teams coaching needs to improve but the problem with the Jets, in my opinion, is the lack of character on the roster. Bowness is yet another successful respected coach who couldn't figure put how to get his team to care. I see zero fire not one player spitting fire and challenging his mates to be better. So they won't be better. Agree Bowness will mot return mutual parting of the ways and I am sure he will take the high road. Hope Berube is available. Just to see the reaction from guys like 55, 81 & 27

  • I'm a jets fan. The players get paid bug bucks to be good. In the playoffs they are just coasting. No effort. One bad pass after another. Right now I would pay then about 25K a year. Thats all most of them are worth. I hope they have a little pride for the next game and at least try. But i'm not holding my breath. And the Avs look good because of what they are playing. This is all on the Jets...again.

  • 91 needs to play in a top 6 spot. He's not effective in a bottom 6 checking roll. Too small for that. Maybe 13 take 22 spot and 91 slots in on the 1st line.

  • Maybe we just don't have the horses. I mean, really - Sheife's line looks WEAK. Their defence is having their way , we can't penetrate. Our game, which is to get great goaltending early, and the opportunize as needed, just can't get going. Helle is shelled and intimidated - the biggest reason which I agree with your assessment. There was NO way they should have put Helle in for game 4. Terrible!

  • Since when does a system that gets you to 4th best record in the entire league also equal the reason the team is absolutely terrible? It doesnt. A team being absolutely terrible is what happens when you abandon your system

  • I agree coaching has something to do with it considering there's been three straight games with exactly the same outcome. Barely any adjustments in play, and why the & #!@ are we not playing Miller! I've come to the conclusion that Hellebuyck is not a playoff goaltender. I can't remember a game or a series in the past number of years that he has stolen from the opposite team. As much as he says he is mentally good and can play I believe he has a certain level of cognitive dissonance that is costing the team. Still played too many games during the regular season especially with number 39 waiting in the wings, not taking of advantage of 39 whatsoever and we're most likely not going to have him next year. Have absolutely wasted the chance with this very good team that absolutely will not look the same next year.

  • No doubt Bones has been thoroughly out coached. Colorado is a powerhouse but Seattle beat them last year. The Kraken weren't exactly an elite team, so the Jets could be much more competitive if the proper line up were put out there.

  • During the 1.0 era of the Jets, Selanne scores 76 goals in a season. Next year, Housley gets moved. All of a sudden, “Selanne sucks. Selanne gas no speed. Selanne is a bust.” NO. THE DEFENCE can’t get the puck up to the forwards in a reasonable fashion. THAT was your problem, and IS your problem now.

    @KyleJon@KyleJon16 күн бұрын
  • In defense of the Jets, the Avs are double shifting MacKinnon and the Jets have absolutely no answer to him. They back off to respect his speed and everything crumbles from there. Only a few handful of teams can contain him and the Avs know it and exploit that. In terms of our coaching, I'm sure Bones is not wanting the Avs to enter our zone cleanly with speed every single possession, but is that coaching or players? Hard to say.

    @frogsplasher@frogsplasher16 күн бұрын
  • Jets were overconfident because of the regular season. After the Avs won the presidents trophy and lost in the second round MacKinnon said the regular season doesn’t matter. Avs are a team that only cares about playoffs and throws the regular season out the window.

  • As a lifelong Jets fan I hope Helly says enough is enough and packs his bags and leaves! He is getting virtually no help and is expected to win these games by himself. On top of that Brossoit wil be a starting goalie somewhere else next year. Without them the Jets would be lucky to get 80 points in a season!!

    • I'm going to re-post my comment here. Curious as to your thoughts. I get the frustration. I am a die-hard Jets fan and have been for decades. Here's what I see, Bones offensively neutered them and made them a defensive team which was good over the long run but not in the playoffs. With teams like Dallas, Vegas, Edmonton, and Avs, we can outscore them and we are the best defensive team and have the best goalie when THEY push back. You have to beat these teams at their own game. It's great that the Jets got some good structure and defense this year, but they are an offensive team and they need to have a coach that gives them lots of plays to score. Have every line scoring. Instead, what I saw was to take offensive players and turn them into a defensive team. You don't sacrifice your strengths to improve your weaknesses. The coaching staff needed to say we have 9/12 offensive players and get them to improve +1-2 defensively but improve their offense +10. They have 3 Morrisey, Pionk, Schmidt, offensively gifted Dmen 2 defensive Demelo and Dillion, and 2 young guns. make it work. I was frustrated not to see Miller at all and lose the guys on waivers this year just to see what they could do. To me, the coaching staff whoever it is doesn't maximize the lineup. It's not far off but some moves cause me to scratch my head. Col isn't a big team so why not have Perfetti and Miller in from Game #1 or 2? Now it's elimination and they're probably try it.

  • I'll support this team & be a fan no matter what happens. I really want our team to tank next season/increase our chances/give whatever we can (except Vilardi & Rutger) to get Michael Misa in the 2025 draft. He's a generational talent that will put butts in the seats & win us championships for 10 - 15 years down the line. I'd be willing to sacrifice 1 season if it means being a dynasty for 10 - 15 years. Get a real coach & personal for Misa too like Joe McDonell from the Dallas Stars to be our GM & Marc Savard as our coach.

  • Sorry man, but you're way off base. The coaching is stellar, but our core has never been able to step up. His system works, but the Jets aren't playing it. Period. If we exit in the first round, Kyle Connor and Nik Ehlers have to go. Great regular season players who can eat bottom 10 teams alive to pad their stats, but have never performed in meaningful games. If that doesn't change this series, they need to go. Schmidt and Pionk also need to go.
