Strongly agree with your approach with the bat's alignment to spine and forearm. Judge's alignment or connection (whatever you want to call it) at launch and at contact maintains those angles better than anyone. I still haven't felt that unloading of the leg from the tilt but I'm open to the idea.

The tilt is the "opposites attract" counteracting the "swinging down". This method allows the hitter to feel a ground up swing. Lack of lower half is the biggest flaw of young hitters that I see as a coach. Happy holidays, baseball family.

The "tilt" is the core extension that you see in all Power-C moves. (clean and press, snatch, javelin, discus) Contraction of the posterior chain with the slight distention of the anterior core is the prime driver (along with triple extension of the lower half) of the most powerful movements the human body is capable of making. I' m new to these videos, so not drinking the Kool-Aid quite yet, but makes more sense then most.

This is very interesting, and I like the logic and the demonstration. I'm struggling with the hand/wrist movement after contact, I'll call it "release". When I practice the motion in this video, my bottom hand seems to have the face (not palm) pointed straight up, and it is difficult to roll the wrists over to finish the follow through. At some point, the face of my bottom hand needs to be facing forward, not up, doesn't it? I feel like I am missing something the end of the swing with the hands. Thank you!
@SuperLabmaster Жыл бұрын
Yeah man, you're right! You'll end up palm up palm down, this is just a feel to get you to understand when and how to launch the bat. Just put all your effort into turning the barrel rearwards as quick as you can and let the rest happen normally

Do you think this can/does work for a slowpitch softball swing?
@basilray Жыл бұрын
Watched the video. Agree with a lot especially getting the bat in the hitting zone. What I don’t understand or see is the weight shift from the backside to a balanced position with a strong front side. I watched, judge, Harper, Trout, and old Mantle video and they definitely do not lunge but do shift somewhat forward then rotate. Their back foot is turned and almost off the ground and have a firm straight leg
@coachprinci Жыл бұрын
That front leg actually becomes a brake for the forward momentum by pushing into the ground which that helps the front hip rotate backwards so the back hip rotates forwards. That's why those players & many other greats like Hank Aaron, Ted Williams, and Babe Ruth all ended with their back foot closer to the pitcher at the end of their swings. This coach either doesn't understand this, or intentionally leaves that out to validate his point. And to say it's something they "are athletic enough to get away with it" is at best misinformed.

What helped him, was the inside elbow to the hip, which once he did that, he can snap it and it's less work. I missed that for a long while as it wasn't quite right. Now? He's hitting WAY more balls. I mean this guy worked with Judge, and if that's not good enough for anyone, I don't know what is. @01:06 is a good example, see that elbow on the hip? That.

Excellent! The proof is in the pudding. It works with our players. 100%… I said it before and I’ll say it again clinics are a waste of time IF they don’t have some one to help them when they go home and struggle with what was taught at the clinic. I still played college ball and did pretty well but I still play in my 40s and am now hitting it better than I did when I was young. I just have to mentally lock into this method before each pitch or I default back to the muscle memory from bad coaching. The other week, I did this swing and was trying to check it but his am oppo double in the gap because I left the barrel in the zone and it still had power.

@GingerG546 Жыл бұрын
Think of dipping the shoulder as a result of your power move... it is not dipping but a powerful tilting of the torso. Ted Williams does it as well. He sets up front shoulder down back shoulder up...(haven't heard this from Richard in a while) why? So you can generate that strong tilt that CAUSES your back shoulder to drop. Williams back shoulder is lower than the front almost immediately... this tilt motion is much stronger AND QUICKER than a twist or simple rotation. Try it yourself!!!
@jwdiho Жыл бұрын
Problem is this tilt alone DOES NOT fully describe the rest of the swing. Front leg block and ground forces absolutely complete the picture.... thats why Richard's videos and Ted williams look so contradictory.... but they do share some key points.

If you grip the bat with your door knocking knuckles(like Aaron Judge) and cocked wrists, you get on plane just as quick with a hammering motion without supinating your wrist unnaturally.
@rms5654 Жыл бұрын
Exactly. In addition, this guy's method causes the front side to fly open- which pulls the hitter's off-plane and significantly reduces vision. Yes, this technique generates a ton of power, but it also makes hitters extremely easy to strike out. Hitters of the previous generation knew how to generate quickness and power without sacrificing as much contact, and they were much better overall hitters than what we're seeing today.

The "Whip" is actually the bat dragging. In no way shape or form should the barrel be wrapped around your neck as he demonstrates. Look carefully at a full speed swing, he swings up through the ball. Of course it works for Judge, he's a freak of nature with herculean srength, he can get away with it. The avg kid cannot perform this consistently and cover the whole strike. It's almost impossible to hit a ball up in the zone with your hands starting low, and with the "tilt" of the bat the entire outer 1/2 of the plate is exposed creating easy flaired foul balls and pop ups. Any decent pitcher can expose this on a consistent basis.

Mr. Richard, I am on a travel team and they are teaching the swing down and I am trying to do your snap and they are trying to tell me no, I don’t listen though because it’s so powerful, off the tee I took down the whole entire net with the snap and I am a 12 year old, I don’t listen beca I know this works and that u teach major leaguers and not only that but they are successful, so glad I found this channel
Rich isnt the first to explain this philosophy but he explains it better and gives drills to teacher movement better than ive seen in my 40 years. Guys have been doing this forever but Rich has a way to help normal person understand
Strongly agree with your approach with the bat's alignment to spine and forearm. Judge's alignment or connection (whatever you want to call it) at launch and at contact maintains those angles better than anyone. I still haven't felt that unloading of the leg from the tilt but I'm open to the idea.
Working with my 7 year old who doesnt like to listen to Dad lol ,these videos have been a big help. I played ball since I was a youngster and my father taught me almost the exact same method to hitting as you are teaching so I know it works and since my son sees and hears it from you and your videos he is finally listening,so thanks and keep the lessons coming
The tilt is the "opposites attract" counteracting the "swinging down". This method allows the hitter to feel a ground up swing. Lack of lower half is the biggest flaw of young hitters that I see as a coach. Happy holidays, baseball family.
I love that there is a logo on the wall @2:09 and on he just follows that motion perfectly. Thanks for the video
Wow, Richard. Thank you.
Wow. The way he explained how I’m a pusher. Hopefully this helps fix my swing cause I always felt like I needed a tweak mechanically just had no idea. This is Aaron Judge’s swing wow.
Thanks for the time Rich, hope to do another interview again!
This is a great video! Thank you!
I LOVE YOU TEACHERMAN
This would have fixed my swing back when I was playing. Great video.
Very good teacher Man!!!
Where was this goldmine when I was in high school 😂 amazing content though keep it up
The boxer uppercut is exactly how I described that move when I started giving lessons over 10 years ago. Tell me how it's wrong internet, I'll wait.
Great explanations, Coach! Question regarding the body tilt in getting the high, middle, and low pitches: would you recommend starting at the low body tilt position and then coming up to get the middle and high pitches? To me, it's always been easier to go up than drop down, and it's one less thing to think about. Just my thought, but YOU are the pro! Thanks, Coach!
Elite techniques.... I never received this kind of teaching in high school baseball. Awesome content and video.
Especially now that I’m older playing softball I’ve noticed I’ve always hit the ball further with my original baseball swing doing this. Turning the barrel instead of forcing the wrist snap in front of me
Richard, Need to get my daughter hitting like this!Ultimately would like to visit you, but in the mean time, is there anyone you can recommend in the NJ area that you trust to teach your methods. Thank you!
This has had a profound impact on my slow pitch senior batting....unbelievable tactic that's easily trained (just with the videos here). I'll be pulling the trigger for the full course soon. This is a game changer for senior softball/baseball gang. When I train off tee there isn't the fatigue I experienced with the "old" pusher swing. Its OK to be critical - just try the techniques for 2 weeks - you will be shocked and amazed.
Do you feel the same with a Slowpitch Softball swing? Would you use the same mechanics since you need to generate more power since the ball is coming much slower?
The uppercut analogy helps
WOW!! I wish knew this when I was in College --- damn!!!! So good
Good videos but I wish there was a progression of drills showing how you teach the swing from the ground up.
That's the biggest problem with this method. It's not scalable.
There is, it’s on his website. Good deal for $300 you get lifetime access
@@noel4ya oh thanks I really appreciate that
He has those videos up. Look up his high level swing pattern videos and it's broken down in a series of 14 videos I think. Not as informative as buying the program but does help make alot of sense.
What is your summer traveling schedule? Will you be coming to Oregon?
Awesome! Do you have any commentary on your techniques for fastpitch Softball? Same? different? Adjustments?
Same. My daughter plays and smashes the ball. She turns 11 this month. One of the smallest girls but hits it as far as our biggest girl
How do you stretch your back without out overloading ur front shoulder
Rich, would the concept of the barrel turn/swivel work the same in skowpitch softball?
This is very interesting, and I like the logic and the demonstration. I'm struggling with the hand/wrist movement after contact, I'll call it "release". When I practice the motion in this video, my bottom hand seems to have the face (not palm) pointed straight up, and it is difficult to roll the wrists over to finish the follow through. At some point, the face of my bottom hand needs to be facing forward, not up, doesn't it? I feel like I am missing something the end of the swing with the hands. Thank you!
Yeah man, you're right! You'll end up palm up palm down, this is just a feel to get you to understand when and how to launch the bat. Just put all your effort into turning the barrel rearwards as quick as you can and let the rest happen normally
The big leaguers place the weight on their front leg. The front leg drives the front hip back creating rotation and bat acceleration through the ball.
Dude this would have changed my life as a kid lol
Do you think this can/does work for a slowpitch softball swing?
Watched the video. Agree with a lot especially getting the bat in the hitting zone. What I don’t understand or see is the weight shift from the backside to a balanced position with a strong front side. I watched, judge, Harper, Trout, and old Mantle video and they definitely do not lunge but do shift somewhat forward then rotate. Their back foot is turned and almost off the ground and have a firm straight leg
@@carlingram8316 thanks.
Do you tilt yourself or is the tilt a result of something
Does this swing path technique work for slow pitch 6 to 12 foot arch softball? I went to a hitting clinic at is was all about rotation and an axe style swing.
So I followed judge in the post season his hitting was not good. Is this high level swing technique good for high level pitching? In slow motion it really looks like his bat head is below most pitches and he is trying to catch up with the pitches to time it perfect.
How do you cover the outside of the plate with this technique?
VERY INTERESTING
This is basically teaching swinging for power vs. swinging for range and control
My son is in 12U I started teaching this to him late last year. It takes a while to really understand this. That.
Mount Mercy in Cedar Rapids, IA?
Would a variation of this swing work in golf?
Why do you use that flat bat?
The tilt is the reverse c in golf...its the spine angle .... absolute must
Hello @TeachermanHitting how do I teach this to a younger hitter? My daughter tends to drop her entire back half when trying to turn the barrel causing her to get under the ball
Excellent! The proof is in the pudding. It works with our players. 100%… I said it before and I’ll say it again clinics are a waste of time IF they don’t have some one to help them when they go home and struggle with what was taught at the clinic. Unfortunately players need that 1 on 1 for several lessons until they’re good enough to maintain it on their own.
Where are you located teacherman? I want to have some lessons… 🙏🙏
Hello sir, I have a question about aiming. Should the knob of the bat go to the ball or should my hands go to the ball? Or does anyone here have any advice? Thank you.
Can these principles be applied to the tennis serve?
My daughter play 10u usssa travel softball. She uses this hitting method. She is 4'6" and one of the smallest girls on our team. She is our 4 hitter and hits the ball as far as our biggest girls.
What sucks is that some of us in the 80s and 90s had so much garbage pushed on us that it's almost impossible to unlearn and do it right.
Hey Teach, look up David Weck (especially his video on rotational power and coil), I think you will appreciate his understanding of body mechanics.
Richard, My daughter’s coach is a Tony Gwynn guy. When he sees my daughter, or any of the other girls, supinate their hands and turn the barrel in an effort to duplicate your mechanics, he has a bit of a conniption fit! So, my daughter reverts back to her push swing . I really want her to commit but it is very difficult when her travel and high school coaches are proponents of Punch and Judy hitting. Any suggestions? Thank you
Talk to your daughters coaches about her using a different technique and ask them to support her in it by not disrupting it. Perhaps they can’t coach her in the technique but they can sure not interfere (don’t say that last part that way to them, hehe).
Hey Teach, this was a great quick summary of your hitting technique. QUESTION: Do you advocate a specific bat grip for the swing you teach? Door knocking knuckles aligned, etc?
Question - How does this compare to someone like Ted Williams swing? Has anyone been able to compare Ted Williams to Judge? The thing i have a hard time here is the just dipping the shoulder. Teaching this to younger players is my concern. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you
Why are you trying to avoid dropping your back shoulder?
@@TeachermanHitting because most people say it not good but, I would like to understand Aaron judge swing because I’m 6,2 at 14 and it think it would work for me
Think of dipping the shoulder as a result of your power move... it is not dipping but a powerful tilting of the torso.
Problem is this tilt alone DOES NOT fully describe the rest of the swing. Front leg block and ground forces absolutely complete the picture.... thats why Richard's videos and Ted williams look so contradictory.... but they do share some key points.
kzhead.info/sun/g5qnqMqpcGdvkp8/bejne.html Watch this swing by Williams. It's a VERY similar initial bat movement. downward supination with power trunk tilt!! This looks exactly like the swing Richard is trying to teach!
What about the release? Where is the video for release?
Can I get a clarification, I get staying back and not lunging forward, but when I look at Judge and others they do a have a firm front side which indicates to be in balance. In other words we don’t just spin round on the back leg. Am I wrong.
Low and inside?
What do you mean by launch? Its not the releasing the hands right?
Can you go over the follow through
That is how Berry bonds swings his bat.. imo he has the best batting swing
If you grip the bat with your door knocking knuckles(like Aaron Judge) and cocked wrists, you get on plane just as quick with a hammering motion without supinating your wrist unnaturally.
I believe in your technique. It looks though like you are pulling your head though. Cardinal sin of course. Scares me to teach this bc I don’t want to teach a technique that leads to pulling your head. Any thoughts on that?
He's in his 60's, so I'm sure the neck is a little stiff. Watch when he talks about hitting pitches at different heights, head is on the ball.
🐐
E gusto mucho me gustaría q alguien lo traducir en español xfa gracias
At what point do you extend the arms
If timed correctly in Rich system you want to make contact with bent arms but you can extend if your early and need to. In perfect situation the extension would be your follow through in Rich's system. Hope this helps took long time for me to adjust my timing but when you do it's magic!
Where was this man when I was playing baseball??? Stupid coaches had me trying to push swing and messed my swing all up
The tilt only looks weird because he looks straight up sometimes rather than keeping his head down towards the ball.
Wonder if sheff was on to something in the 80’s and 90’s
I think a big pointer that he doesn’t mention is pelvic tilt.
Would love to see you hit in BP to show your teaching in action
Look his video up teacherman 110 he hiiting line drive all day at 67
Why the flat bat? What's up with that?
If you wanna see how to hit a baseball, watch old film of Henry Aaron or Mickey Mantle, or Stan Musial or Ted Williams. They hit off much better pitching in their days.
Sir, I love baseball but I wasn’t blessed with the hitting talent. I’m going to get in a cage and practice this and maybe even play some old man baseball again. Thank you.
🤯 Me realizing hitting has to progress to catch up to 95-100 mph fastballs from every big league pitcher now. I’m going to start training my 9yo these techniques and see where this goes. I had an inside out drag and snap swing that worked really well in HS but I started shifting my weight onto my front leg in college and tanked my game. Hopefully this is going to help my son not be like dad 😅
It's a school for necromancy . Hogwarts but with dark magic. My poor elbow can't do that
But we don’t exactly see this technique in the actual swing. Are you exaggerating the movement for effect? Just trying to better understand, thanks.
It's not exactly what you see but in the ballpark... fact is he lacks the kinesiology background to fully describe what is happening. Just my opinion...
43 years too late for me :( but the fundamental mechanics are sound and strangely enough, unify the baseball swing with the tennis forehand with the golf swing. Coil, whip the barrel back and around, contact, then release.
Why are you hips open? Why not swing through level and use legs for elevation.
Good slow pitch softball mechanics, not so much for hitting a high fastball.
Good video there you go haters
Now watch Aaron judges swing in slow motion. He doesn’t do the snap the barrel down thing. His swing path is just like everyone else in the mlb
All these comments and nobody asks about the bat, grr....
Hello, with all due respect, could you give the videos a subtitle in Spanish to understand better, please and thank you
You have the ability to adjust the subtitle language in your KZhead settings. Watch the video linked below: kzhead.info/sun/jdKoqNmseKivlIE/bejne.htmlsi=VryAiQ3DJAlWb5fe
