  • You don't really have a Full Range Guy here but looking at your beautiful speakers while listening to this great music... I think i'm a step away of studying for Seas Cabinets and getting the necessary components for a DIY Tube Amp. Soooo nice!

  • Some years ago I had a pair Almarro full-range speakers, each with two identical full-range drivers. Lovely. Prior to that I had Cain&Cain Super Abbys ... loved them. Both were superb with the Almarro A205A, and equally nice with the A318B. Full-range single-driver speakers are special and uncanny.

    • Landon Swift The "speaker" in the video (speaker = housing) has a single driver that covers lows/mids/highs w/o requiring a crossover; the sound can be unrestrained, detailed, refreshing, palpable and very, very life-like, with great presence; while bass will certainly be present and is often satisfying, most full-range drivers won't deliver the bass found in standard box designs; that said, housing design and room acoustics are factors. If you love thumping, this might not be for you. The best audio decisions I ever made were switching to tube amplification and speakers with full-range drivers, though my Cains had the F-R and a super tweeter, my Almarros had twin F-R drivers and my Tektons have the F-R and a separate extended tweeter. Probably going to try some open-baffle speakers next.

  • It sounds so good that it can be used as listening music (like an album)! In this case, point-source makes it even better because it sounds like it's "plugged in" and not through speakers. Separate woofers and tweeters (on You Tube) sounds like speakers, especially when the camera moves. I like lounge music, see my lounge music I made with my Korg. And made a CD and made some point-source speaker demos of my lounge music on my ch, ch, cheers!

  • @TheAuditory Thanks for watching the video. The drivers are 10 inch Bolton(s) which are no more in production. I would like to recommend you a book before starting your diy project which i also purchased and it was really helpful "Build Your Own Valve Amplifier by Rainer Zur Linde". Please do post video of your amplifier project.

  • A full range speaker does not require any type of crossover but some people like to add BSC (Baffle Step Compensation) crossover design for a more linear response. But i like it simple without bsc :-)

  • Thanks for the update - I remember hearing about these being linked to Philips ( Holland ) during the 60's/70's as they used their tooling to produce tubes at this time. Would you happen to know of any sourced where I'd purchase a quad or two?. Thanks again, I'll be sure to add them to my search. Cheers,Oscar

  • I made a quite similar amp like this. One single 12AX7 in the preamp section. I have to say it sounds better than my other KT88 push pull amp. Do you have DC filaments or AC? What about hum?

  • Hi there, Beautiful sound by the way. Would you mind sharing which brand of EL-84's you're using?, as I have an amp that uses them on the way - but don't know much about them other then the ones made by Amperex/Philips/Mullard along with Telefunken/Valvo or Siemens, but seriously like the sound of yours. Do share if you would. Regards,Oscar

  • @olanzip i bought them from a bolton dealer in delhi unfortunately the bolton company stopped their production line a long time back [5-6 years]. I was really lucky coz it was the last set of speakers that shopkeeper had with him. they are high senstivity 93-96db i guess. Bolton was a chennai based speaker manufacturer.

  • @truebassB Truly said its not a full range driver technically cause it does not produce higher freq upto 20k. I was experimenting n that's my first diy speaker amp project and that is why i tried this speaker couse it was in my budget n cheap. Being an amateur i didnt wanted to ruin a fostex driver and i am 21yrs old so i think there is a lot to learn ahead. Seas also manufacture exotic full range drivers , you are studying their designs on fr drivers?

  • You are better-off without BSC on full ranges (unless you know what you are doing). It's really tricky stuff designing your own crossovers and BSC (and mine are a combination of both).Very time consuming, a good ear and determination. The ultimate challenge, a real nightmare! But I enjoy the challenge and after a while you learn, and it takes less time. One key thing is to have a bypass resistor in parallel with BSC chokes and capacitors. This preserves the "straight-through" sound! Big improve!

  • CongratZ for your setup man! Nice sounding 1 way speakers, also well made EL84SE amp! Good thing that you use valve rectifier, it make the sound smooth, also looks like decent size output transformers: nice basses. Any schematic of your build? • And further more, if Trubass is over 17 years of age, he can no longer hear anything over 17k. So that makes 20 to 16.5k his full range. Stop trying to build speakers that reproduce sounds that only your dog can hear. Focus on how linear and distortion free you can get one to behave from 40 Hz. to 8 thousand. That's where music, voices and most instruments are.
