In this video, I help Coach Amanda control this monster axel she has. We work on slowing the rhythm down and getting her left side in front for a solid and consistent landing position.
Amanda returned to the ice at age 35 after a 13-year break and 2 kids. Upon her return, she’s been working with Coach Jamie to redefine her skating.

  • Wow, Amanda’s axel really is enormous! Thank you for these greatly informative videos! I saw your earlier video on Instagram about looking in the direction of the jump, and I applied that advise to my waltz jumps, and now I’m learning my axel.

  • Love how you explain the technical aspects of skating so clearly! Lots of coaches that start young have trouble explaining things in detail for adult skaters and boy do we need those technical instructions. Thanks a lot!

  • Can't fix everything in one day is my motto. My coach will correct one thing and I can consistently do that thing but if she add another thing to correct. It's game over, I forgot about the first thing.

  • I've never heard of this Ina Bauer moment! thank you! Can you make an axel tutorial video with some uncommon tips? I was watching a video from inSkate and he said to jump inside the circle you create with your right back outside edge, what do you think about that? I've never heard of it before but I've been struggling with the axel for three years (ish) now and I'm desperate, so I may give it a shot.

  • Fantastic video! Keep them coming! I haven’t gotten my axel yet but I have that same issue with a wobble on the landing trace on most of my singles (waltz and toe ok). They are very big jumps with a lot of air and I’ve never really been able to fix the landings. Does what you’re describing here translate to the other jumps in the same way?

    • WIth axel being the only jump that takes off forward, big jumpers will find that the free hip has made such a big motion that when you land it can create the wobble. I don't see any issue with the wobble as long as it doesn't affect the overall carriage and presentation of the landing.

  • I'm still working on my edges before I get to jumps, I think if I rush into jumps I might form bad habits. What do you think Jamie 😅😅😅
