    • Same here! When I was still in kindergarten, I didn't have many friends or knew people with dogs. But one of my few friends had a Bernese Mountain dog named Ronnie I think. Ronnie was the most calm, kind and lovable bear of a dog I've ever met. And since then, I still hope I can have a dog too one day. They just make me feel happy and less alone :)

Two of them, the Entlebucher and the Appenzeller they are very Swiss. Pretty to look at from afar, but they are quite nippy when you get too close and they can get aggressive with old age, if not properly socialized.

The sites all warn to leave them alone too long they are easily bored and you need to give them something to do. Work dogs are usually smart dogs - anticipating obedience was the term used, so they can to a degree "think" for themselves and ahead while being eager to please their hoomans. people in the comment section seem to conflate the well natured patience of the large dog during the grooming should not be conflated with being dumb. They age fast and do not live long (around 7 - 8 years on averge) so it is possible the the dog is a senior, him stitting down towards the end would indicate that. or he has the hip problems that are typical for such lage dogs. Obviously those dogs have to be smart (and patient), with lifestock and around cattle, goats, sheep in the mountains. Nice or at least tolerant towards all lifestock and children.

      @xyzsame4081@xyzsame40812 жыл бұрын
    • @@aprilluber your dogs have a famos ancestor / relative in the family of the large Swiss Mountain dogs. Barry the rescue dog, he had a good nose. He was born 1800, he saved 40 people in the High Alpine region and is still a Swiss national treasure. His body was conserved and is exhibited in the Museum of Natural History of Bern. The moutain pass (St. Bernhard) between the Swiss Rhone Valley and the Aosta Valley (Italy) was a major route (for hikers) - pilgrims, and trade - during medieval times - and an important route in Europe for thousands of year before that. But it was a risky route, in the High Alpine region even in summer snow storms and avalanches can surpise people. But even getting lost in wet wetter can kill people. During the 11th, century monks (St. Augustin) built an inn, likely one motivation was to make the route safer for pilgrims that were headed for Rome, and they later bred large, strong, smart and patient dogs. In 2005 they moved that breeding station (the inn still exists and is open for tours and patrons), but the dogs are still in the mountains in summer, at least for a time. Likely to be shown off to tourists ;) The dogs helped pave the way though snow, and were able to guide monks and people, and also to find hikers that lost their way, were exhausted or had gotten buried by an avalanche. During season (maybe even year round, if they stayed there in winter they needed lost of supplies, and fuel to survive) monks were in the inn. They took care of the patrons, but also monitored the area around the pass. Every day during summer teams of one monk and one dog were looking for lost or exhausted hikers. They reported 2000 rescues within 200 years. That includes soldiers, that used that route during the Napoleonic Wars.

My boy sat on the feet of a county sheriff , and the sheriff politely said" Your dog is sitting on me" I didn't tell the sheriff what a honor that was that he felt so comfortable with the sheriff. When Endo pasted... he walked off into the woods and we never saw (nor found) him again. We may have lost the garden of Eden, but out Lord has given us these great companions. Most of the time just laying around, sometimes goes for a walk but overall a wondefull and loving dog. Bigger dogs have always issues with joints so at some stage suplements and vitamins are needed. I definitely recommend this breed.

    • yeah, big dogs in general dont live that long, but having a mix with that breed in it will increase its lifespan. Big dogs often have Problems with their bones because they have to carry all their own weight. Specific health issures are there sometimes too. My mother has a berner-goldie mix and hes huge. 65 kilo of water loving fluff. No matter what you tell him, he is a actually a horse. Less majestic, more drooling. And wet. Always. He grew too fast so he had problems with his joints, we often had to visit his physiotherapist after he playet too rough...

    • My girl was 8 weeks old when I adopted her as a rescue. It was fun trying to guess what breeds she might be. It wasn't until she was about four years old that a friend told me she was almost certainly a Bernese Mountain dog, a breed i had never heard of. It turns out that she is a pure breed, and now I love the breed.

  • I like the fact that he is so comfortable throughout the whole process. He's panting and relaxing the entire time. He is enjoying being pampered. What a cutie 😊

    @luceromorales1773@luceromorales17732 жыл бұрын
    • No to ruin your fun, but panting is the opposite of relaxed. When a dog is panting while standing still it means they're stressed. He's very well behaved and tolerant, but he isn't relaxed, and no wonder, if it's his first time being groomed!

  • I would literally not care if she recorded herself saying the same thing over and over and over again and used it for all her videos. I came here to see dogs (and the occasional disgruntled cat) get groomed and I am 110% satisfied with her content.
