Facing a variety of man-made threats, North Atlantic right whales were listed under the Endangered Species Act in 1970. Once the right whale to hunt, these giants are now the right whales to save.
I've been on this earth 40 years and today I learned the Right Whale is a thing. Amazing.
Exactly! Watched all those blue planet shows and ocean docs on discovery and not nan one mention this whale 🙆🏽♀️
I think I learn of a new animal or specials every day.. or atleast weekly.. it blows my mind tbh
What ever happened to left whales tho?
Saw one about 20 years ago off Cape John near the old Macdonalds warf in the Seafoam area Northumbrland Straight. Female I think, came in close to my boat. They're just beautiful I cant image anyone hurting one, you can see in thier eyes that they're intelligent.
I dream of seeing one
dude WOW! i seen one at a McDonalds TOO! it was in Hopkinsville Kentucky. He was getting a big mac and fries. He also got two happy meals for his kids in the car. It was and amazing sight and yes very smart. As he had EXACT CHANGE
I'm flabergasted that I've never heard of these whales before and I lived in S. FL. for 45 yrs. and spent tons of time in the Biscayne bay and along the east coast of central FL to the keys. WOW!
Today I saw a good news that a calf has been swimming near the coast of georgia..❤❤
There was a female and her calf off Jupiter Inlet (near Palm Beach) just the other day. Thousands watched them from the shore.
Why is it everytime i learn about a new cool species.....i soon find out they r endangered....
This species isn't endangered like most whales, this species is critically endangered meaning that it's the closest to extinction and with only around a hundred or so breeding females it may indeed go extinct soon.
@Jay Kay Wow... This affects me personally because these whales are right in my back yard. Over 40 died in one year and now the population left is around 360 The population has been in decline for a long time and those bullshit donations are the only reason why they haven't gone extinct yet.
@@WildsDreams45..... thanks for the even more depressing info 😭
@@adeliaforsteri3683 Hey no problem buddy! Just try to see one in the next 5-8 years... After that I don't know. Maybe they can save them like how they saved the Humbacks around Panama but it's a long shot this time.
:'( so called "industrial progress" is killing every species one at a time ⏲️
Put tracking devices on the Right whales. Propeller guard should be on every boat. Two things that will make a difference. I hope to see one in it's natural environment.
Yes ...even a thin teaspoon design would be effective but it's the entanglements and excess orca populations that are wreaking the most havoc on larger ocean mammal species'
Love this video - I’ve really been enjoying the Whale Alert app too (we have a couple of individuals offshore in Virginia right now!)
GOD BLESS ALL OF THE BEAUTIFUL WHALES. GOD BLESS ALL OF THE BEAUTIFUL OCEAN LIFE. 🙏
I pray to God we can protect these species of whales so that they can return to their numbers prior to being hunted so close to extinction 💔
So amazing that there is access to infinite info about animals at our fingertips and yet I’m constantly Learning about a species I didn’t know existed…fuckin majestic
I still haven't seen a whale in my life. I do feel like the Right Whale is gonna be my first if I'm lucky in the Winter.
Over 40 of these died last year so now the population is around 360 so if you see one Before it goes extinct you're really lucky.
You'd be lucky if it's your first
@@deaganachomarunacathasaigh4344 Oh I know.
@@HydreigonJ89They were once Irelands most common and plentiful whale
Right whales are huge!
They can be seen yearly in Ireland
Stunning
Save the North Atlantic Right Whale
Whales also help other ocean animals , their poop is full of nutrients and more!
The word whale came from the Old English word hwael. Can you believe that?
How many will vineyard wind kill?
Feed on microscopic organisms? I thought they ate krill, which are small ( couple of cm's/inches) but certainly not microscopic 😳
Good Harbor Beach at 3:48
Biggest enemy of left shark
ENFORCE
What about left whales though? :P
They got their name from walers who considered them to be the "right" kind of whale to hunt and that's why they went from 15k to just a few hundred. Edit: over 40 died last year so now the population is around 360.
@@WildsDreams45 I believe she was joking.
Joking about species extinction is lame
Where's the east whales
Cetacean equivalent of pandas. 🙄
Except the fact whales are actually ecologically important, while pandas are utterly useless
