  • Adult elephants have excellent control of their prehensile trunks, so this one was quite capable of simply taking the food from the hand of the woman offering it. Yet it chose instead to twist the end of its trunk and present the flattened underside, allowing the woman to place the food there. Given the intelligent of elephants I am left wondering if it perhaps picked up on not just the woman's intent, but her hesitancy, her nervousness, and so chose to accept the food in a manner designed to be non-threatening

As a result of that, they associate food with vehicles and are now DEMANDING it from every passing vehicle. Every vehicle needs a bunch of bananas or sugarcane for safe and hassle-free passage! They also created myths about gorillas. People, especially civilized people, do not feel nature, do not interact with it, do not correlate, so they have such an opinion. Their unjustified fear, misunderstanding transforms into panic hostility, exaggeration, exaggeration, reluctance and extreme distance. You have to understand nature. The biggest threat is t mothers with calves and young males with testosterone stimulated to aggression. Plus elephants kept in captivity. But people have it that if they don't understand something, they're scared, they're terrified. Just like with spiders. People have much fobies.

One day while this was happening, I watched a Hoopa woman come out of her rattled old truck and threaten to slap the holy crap out of some city boy hells angel wannabe who was revving his stoopid momo thinking that was going to make it better. I was right behind the bikers. He had more sense than I gave him credit for, and stopped it before she pushed him off that bike. Idk if he realized that before he could have gotten up, the whole rest of the line would have jumped onto him. The elk don't push into the vehicles. They just edge out until a vehicle stops in the first lane, one elk stays in front of that vehicle and another one edges into the next lane, until they get compliance from the humans.

The elephant gave me a wet kiss on my face which freaked me out. Decades alter, I would regularly ride an Asian elephant in the opening parade of a circus. I was a performer on the show, 1982-90. Elephants do not belong in circus, I eventually decided. I believe wild animals deserve to live in the wild. I respect elephants enough to know to not approach them, such as this woman did. But, writing such as: "You don't have the intelligence edge." is incorrect. Too much bacon & eggs, perhaps?

The only time I've heard of a captured elephant, that's domesticated, killing a human is if the person mistreats it and if it's in "musth" which means they are extra horny, and, often, the human gets killed because he's inbetween two bull males that are in musth, and the human is not the target of their aggression but just gets caught inbetween them, trying to fight each other. There's also a shocking short story by George Orwell, based on a true story when he was a policeman in I think Burma, where he was asked to put down an elephant in musth that had killed or injured a human, and he had to do it with a pistol, which is needlessly cruel, and he didn't even want to but was expected to since he was the White man in charge of "law and order". • Elephants are beautiful, amazing beings. It's natural that we'd want to gift them with food, and to get so close. But there's a reason we're always told never to feed wild animals. The clips of elephants pushing vehicles demonstrates why.

  • I used to work around elephants. People think they can all be riden on and fed. But they are also huge and can accidentally or intentionally crush someone. They can get very territorial and pissy too. She's really lucky.

    • Accidentally crush someone? Probably no. Even though their bodies are enormous, they have perfect control. If they didn't have such control, their young would die since the little ones mostly live under their bellies and bump into legs often.

    • @tinkerer67 you've never been in a stall with one, or loaded one for transport, or sedated one for a procedure and they start waking up early and try to stand up while swinging their trumps around. And the bond between mother and calf is a whole different thing. She knows where the calf is and will exhibit protecting behavior. Getting bumped can be like getting hit w a tractor depending on their size.

    • not really,.. the elephant has learned people = food. Then like a highwayman robber. It starts to harras people on the street or in cars. Kinda like goverments, when you realy start to think about it, But yeah.. there used to be enough space for all creatures to coexxist.
