There are countries that won the lottery of natural resources but only some managed them well, as is the case of Australia, Norway or Canada. One possible reason could be that they have abundant resources for a small population in a country larger than the European continent, as is the case with Australia. However, if they don't diversify, they may fall into a cycle of stagnation, similar to what happened in Argentina, Nauru, and Venezuela.
yes
Which is not going to happen! Why they are targeting skilled migrants then.
I used to be very critical of Canada till I travelled to South America and countries such as Brazil and Argentina, which are supposedly rich too. Never again on all counts. CANADA IS A GREAT COUNTRY AND I CONSIDER MYSELF BLESSED TO BE LIVING HERE
They didn’t have a central bank until 1934.
It helps to have a government who appreciates and exploits the country’s natural resources. Even though Canada has immense reserves of oil, for example, the federal government restricts its exploitation because of its destructive “green agenda”. This forces Canada to import oil instead of drilling for it. As well, the illusion that mass immigration will somehow fix the low birth rates of western countries will be proven to be false and destructive. Many of those countries are finding out right now.
