Knife-Forging SEAL Nomad Shane Hiatt Part One | Mike Ritland Podcast Episode 163
It takes all sorts to make the world, but only a select few are chosen to lead. Just ask Shane Hiatt - he's a former Point Man for SEAL Team 3, where he met and served together with our very own Mike Ritland. Since then they've been good friends for over 25 years, with Shane swinging by to visit whenever he's in town. He's a modern nomad, living out of his truck for over 15 years (a self-described 'van-lifer' before it was cool) and he owns SH9, an elite knife company that ships products all over the world. He's even been on the podcast before, way back on Episode 50 with Clint Emerson.
Since then, Shane's been traveling, crafting knives and spinning yarns all over the country. But there's a lot more to his past that wasn't revealed last time he was on Mike Drop - that's why he's sitting down with Mike again to share a collective look back at where they've come from early in their careers, and the men they'd eventually grow to become.

Shane is awesome.. Big personality.
I listen, as an older veteran, and I listen to podcast from Rob Oneil to Shawn Ryan to Ryan fugit,; and I think that they are all great! But I think that Mike is the best. Not only is a warrior for our country, but he is a great interviewer. He is smart, and his one liners are as funny as fuck. He's straight forward and honest and says it like it is. Every guest is interesting and I wish that I had known about this podcast long before now. Mike, thank you for your service and educating people with your podcast. To me, you are a legend.
I have to say that I think that CAG is the tip of the sphere, but maybe I'm bias. You are awesome Mike, keep it up. If the shit hits the fan, I would be blessed to follow you and your guest. All are absolute warriors. I love all of our veterans, and let's face it, all of you spec. Operation forces guys are the best of the best. Love you guys
Dude, literally every SOF guy that gets interviewed says they were only average. They are all either being humble/lying or there are some seriously scary monsters out there...
God Bless The Mike Drop Podcast God Bless America
Beautiful Comment. Well said.
So fun watching friends who love and respect each other.
My exact takeaway 😊
You guys need some friends 😂
If this continues to pattern then Clint will be the next guest LOL
I cant tell you how many times I watched that one episode with Mike, Shane, and Clint. Laughing for hours!
Too right! 😅
Shane is a great story teller. part two i was on the floor laughing over the email to global
I'm a mechanical engineer. I finished with a 3.3 gpa. Calc B is known for being a bitch, it kicks a lot of people out of engineering programs early. I had to take it twice. Semper Fi
It washed me out…now I just instruct PE’s. Lol
I was enlisted Marine fortunate enough to get a slot to Annapolis. I thought I was the shit, cocky Marine corporal, until that 1st semester kicked me square in ballsack. Failed chem, calc, physics. Did 3 years of summer school. My advisor was like “yeah, so you need to pick a group 3 major like history, English, poli sci”. My company mate buddy wanted to be a seal. He was a stud. He was also mechE major. He’d come back from exam and be like “the high grade was a 33”. It was ridiculous really.
So glad Shane is back. Guy is such a treat for a long drive to work. Just chewing the fat like a normal day
Their chemistry is top tier
"Psycho Baldy"! Great guy and super talented knife maker!
Mikedrop always delivers. Thank you both & the team dog food has really helped my pit bull mix stop scratching. Thank you Mike.
LMAO, One of the better shows you've done. Nothing, like good friends fckn with each other. Thanks for the laughs.. ;-)
@mikeritland.. Have something you might be interested in Mike. How does one get your private contact? And Yes it involves the dog and the industry in this regard.. Take you all of 10 min of your time.. Or do I have to get my people to talk to your people and work my way up the food chain? ;-( LMK. THANKS.. 🎉
Thx for the content, Mike. Just picked up my Boerboel puppy this morning and have already started training her with your methods. Keep up the good work, sir!
Wow! I just looked up that breed online. You were going to have an absolute blast raising that young puppy. what a beautiful animal. I wish you nothing but the best and many many beautiful years with your new best friend.
@@xprettylightsx3781thx. It will be a handful but I want to do it the right way
Haven't even started watching yet but I already know I'ma enjoy this episode.

F*** ya dude..so stoked to see y’all back together on a pod.
Good show. All the best
Shane has great sense of humor. I can see why you were running buddies.
Dude reads Wheel of Time, how awesome!!
@1:02:00 wow!!! Alan B Shepard wrote your letter of recommendation?!?!?! He was the First American in space, and landed on the moon with Apollo 14!!!! That’s so wild he got you in!!!!!
These two are funny as shit!
Excellent video brothers. Hooyah 👍🏻 💯 💪 🇱🇷
Only two minutes in and already know this is gonna be a damn good one!

Great show
oh shit here we go
The jumper cable story is as good of a story as has ever been told.
lol @ the intro
We had that same leg press machine in my HS. Always thought it was sketch.
Amazing Shane separated at 16.5 years. Fits his personality but absolutely insane.
I remember, shane we both rented rooms in a house in VA beach and he stayed across the hall from me. He had a pet python that would break loose, and the owner of the house was always worried about his cat. It would happen when Shane was out on a military exercise and I was new to team 8. So the owner and I will go looking for the snake and we would find it in the closet or some unexpected place.
Would Shane rub one out in the living room, or in the kitchen?
I’ve worked in a prison here in California for 23 years and I love the way Mike Jokes with, his guests V for vagina😂😂😂
Fort Chaffee is my front yard!
Listening to the abuse this man and his siblings went through breaks my heart. As a father of 3, it’s hard to fathom how a man could abuse a child, mentally or physically.
Add a picture of Shane in that hat on part 2.
Fuckin pastor Mike and Shane!! Semper fi gents!!
Interesting that Mike knows about Rio Rancho. Had to laught about UHauls in Albuquerque. So many families make the news that were passing through Albuquerque and woke in their motel off the freeway to find all their shit had been stolen. Happens so often.
It's not a trailer, it's called a static home in the UK lmao
Lol all my closest near deaths are self inflicted
😎 ah yeah hi. The following, those freestyle cutting hair (offline 😀 like me too) isn't it dangerous there? So here is the solution: Those seeming older ones are not allowed to pretend to catch fire. Okay we can make fire on our own and fireplaces for others okay? So I do. 😎🤠
Lived outta his truck since 2008. Hasn't been laid since 2012. Coincidence? 🤔
Why do humans exist? Hahahaha Tù Ché Mike!!!!
Dead pool isn’t marvel is he. I thought he was dc comics
I stand corrected he is marvel
Lol he said he hasnt got laid since 2012... 13 years Jesus
Math.
This dude is equivalent to a wet blanket
His Mother doesn’t sound very smart AT ALL! He said she was great……..really? Just dumb?
Mike your intro makes no sense and is cringy.
GREAT SHOW MAN FUNNY DUDE
I dont get how navy seals could do that job and not be religious or believe in god
My Dog is a colorful Homosexual. It left for the Gay Bar 8-days ago and has not returned. It even has a "Grindr" account. Soo Gay it cant even walk straight.... Queer as a 3-Dollar bill Mike.... 🌈🐶
Imagine if you will, an alien Seal Team exists somewhere in the universe 👽🐸🦭
Great show
