  • Guys, It's nothing Infront of 'Dhimbam Ghat'. Dhimba- in Kannada 'diNNe'. Dhimbam Ghat is most difficult Ghat in South India. It has 27 hair pin bends, to go down 800fts within a road stretch of 13kms. It is situated between Chamarajanagar (Karnataka) & Sathyamangalam (Tamil Nadu), it completely lies in Tamil Nadu state jurisdiction. It's part of NH-209 (Bengaluru-Chamarajanagar-Coimbatore-Dindigul). It passes through Sathyamangalam forest area. Karnataka plateau is around 700-750fts above when compared to Tamil Nadu plains altitude. That means, we roll down from Karnataka towards Tamil Nadu. In fact this is the area from where the name 'Karnataka' got derived, in proto-Dravidian language (old Kannada & old Tamil) 'Kar~NaaDu' means 'well defined plateau' or 'sudden plateau' (kaDidada naaDu in modern Kannada). Later the as the time passed and same word reached different geography, and people started to pronounce it with different accent, after around 2500Yrs now it has become to synonyms- Kannada Nadu & Karnataka. 1.[ Kar~NaaDu = KaNaaDu (r became silent)= KaNaDu (a reduced to one)= KaNNaDu (stress at N) = (KaNNaDa , KaNNaDa~naDu)]. 2. [Kar~NaaDu = Kar~NaaTa = Kar~NaTa= Kar~Nata+Ka = Karnataka]. Here, ancient Greek Travellers might have added 'Ka' at the end, there are historical evidences as far as Greeks visit to Karnataka. Greeks derived the words Arctic, Antarctica, America, some Greeks called India as Indica, so, my opinion KarnaTa -> KarnaTa(ka) by Greeks?!. Now I'm coming to present. Bike riders can make one day plan from Mysuru (Mysuru-65km-Chamarajanagar-70km-Sathyamangalam), from Bengaluru side one day ride not enjoyable as it needs at least two days for to & fro. To study & feel this crucial region (along with biking), take a ride! You can check for 'Dhimbam Ghat' in KZhead!!

    • Rathan D dude dhimbham ghat for all typ of heavy vehicles, agumbe ghat for only short chassis vehicles. And also for travelling udupi to shivamogga this is not the only route. There 4 alternate route unlike dhimbham ghat which is the only way to travel from MYSORE to ERODE.
