I was a student hitchhiking in the south of England and I heard this as a lift drove along a sun-dappled, tree-lined avenue. I am now 68 years of age and recovering from surgery for cancer having taught delinquent lads. I was privileged to be one lad’s best man at his wedding as he made a success of his life. Unfortunately I stood at the graveside of one lad who was out of reach and took 8 bullets to the chest. I have been privileged to have been a member of the finest profession on the planet and this tune still provides the wonderful soundtrack to my life. Thank you, Curtis

The real ones like me (and I'm 27) had uncles and aunts who constantly played timeless records from Curtis Mayfield, Barry White, Lisa Stansfield, Neneh Cherry, Aretha, Etta James and so many more. I've literally known about Mr. Mayfield since I was 7 years old, since on our road trips from Florida to my house in Jersey, all my uncle would play is those timeless old school records. Curtis, Barry, Etta (she's also one of my favorites), and so many more. I was raised right, since all I listen to is music from the '40s all the way to the '90s (I was born in '96). They do NOT make talent like Mr. Mayfield and his contemporaries anymore - take notes, young people!

My mother used to play this song to me a lot when I was young. I never understood the meaning back then. Until I found out why my own upbringing had been so rough. She was physically and mentally abused by her parents in the most brutal of ways, as were her siblings. Now here I am 2 years after she died and the lyrics finally make sense. I didn't have it that bad....she tried to move me up..in her way.

The first secondes of this track are historical. A kind of " a Big Bang' The start of real Energie and Light! Amazing! A musical highlight!

“If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.

I Am The Universe
Kerry Law hahahahaha
My mother used to play this song to me a lot when I was young. I never understood the meaning back then. Until I found out why my own upbringing had been so rough. She was physically and mentally abused by her parents in the most brutal of ways, as were her siblings. Now here I am 2 years after she died and the lyrics finally make sense. I didn't have it that bad....she tried to move me up..in her way.
Brilliant absolutely brilliant
After watching a movie lift this song came at the end and it surprised me ❤❤

Amazing band
Who were the backing musicians on this tune?
Master Henry Gibson on congas, Donald Simmons on drums, the great Phil Upchurch on guitar with Curtis. don't know about the bass guitar..a very simple repetitive 'feel' line
“Move on up”!! Nows my time, this is one of my songs! ❤
This song is pure serotonin like forget my Zoloft lmfaooo
A great pick me up during the 2020 covid-19 outbreak. Remember your dream is your only scheme so keep on pushing!
Exactly, try Jackson 5 too.

There’s nothing quite like listening to this song specifically during the current pandemic. Great pick up and rather comforting I find.
All dreams are on hold...
Jersey Jack you know any great songs like thus
Pound for pound the greatest song of all-time IMO. I’m not a soul fan particularly - but you just have to recognise the sheer greatness of this record
I can't agree more man.
Agreed, mega mega serious vibe that transcends everything else 👌👌👌
I remember this song straight out of the box A real classy rhythm. The dance that went with it was awesome too. Oh and don't forget the LADIES.....
This song is just so beautiful! It seems I´ve listened it all of my life even before I knew who I am
Man my alarm woke me up to this song on Spotify, and what a way to wakeup!!! So positive. The songs of the 70s are just very uplifting. I needed to hear that to get my ass up out of bed!
Does your alarm choose songs ? Very lucky to have this song come up ! It just drives it's energy straight in to your body :D
How do you place alarms on spotify :(
@@funkywarrior3906 I had an android and it had the option of Spotify as an alarm. Now I have an iPhone and it doesn’t have that option 😭
@@Pazaluz yes it would shuffle the songs so I never knew which one was going to come up!
Who on this planet could possibly dislike this!?!?!?!?!?!? This is one of the best songs of all time!!!!
Probably some poor slob who prefers to stay down rather than move UP!
There will always be millions that don't But there will always be millions that do And for those who do is all that matters Keep listening 🙂
This is the best mix ever!! My twin is out there lol!!
Love this song! Brings back good times
I was 18 in 1970. Music and dance during this era will last long after I'm gone. Curtis and Marvin, 2 of the greatest.
those horns just give me life!!!!!! thank you Mr. Mayfield
I like the break at 4:00 when it sounds like the song will end. Nah, let's jam for another 4:48. Curtis was the sh*t.
Amazing. J'adore toujours très apprécié
Pure joy….
Is there a song as good as this one to literally brighten up the soul? If there is I haven't found it.
Jake Morrison Mr Blue Sky by ELO works pretty Well :D

Touch the Sky- Kanye West
ollie gray don't quite know how to dislike this comment enough...

If your body doesn't move with this song, then you still got a lot to learn about soul music.

Me to 🖤🤍
50 years ago, still relevant, and loved anew by this generation!
Real music knows how to groove, how to be in it, how to uplift and jam out. How to spread love. All of it wrapped into one brilliant song. On the list of all-time bests.
Hello Kristen
Totes!
I volunteered to take on the hardest account, the one everyone said was hell, I worked hard to make a good first impression, but they gave me nothing, for days, I thought I had failed, I almost quit, and just as I was about to retreat to save my career, my boss told me they loved me. This song popped into my head after the realization. Have faith in yourselves brothers, if you know it, go be it.
I've been searching this song for more than 6 years, finally found it ohh yessss um so happy 🎉🎉🎉🎉😅😊
I discovered this track thanks to “Touch the sky” by Kanye West, and I’m not ashamed of it. This track is truly a gem
So that's where it came from! Super familiar
Two legendary tracks from Chicago legends.
Kayne West should never be mentioned in the same sentence . As Curtis Mayfield
@@thetruthk5138 get that chip off your shoulder and acknowledge Kanye's genius
@@alfredoe9955 A genius stop it my side's are aching I know you don't mean it
I found this song during a very dark time in my life. this song encourages moving forward, not lingering on the past. please, please, please, share this one. its an absolute banger too. people need to hear this sometimes, and I took this song to heart.
