This is the ULTIMATE GUIDE to learning Space Engineers and is the second of a series of videos covering how to play Space Engineers in survival. A lot of the tutorials for this game are too long, old or both so I decided I was going to make a tutorial that gets straight to the point and tells you exactly everything you know!
This video features a fast paced run through of building rover in Space Engineers with timestamps below to help you navigate quickly through. If you have any questions or think I've left anything out of the video, leave a comment and I will can help you or I will use your feedback in the next video.

Space Engineers is a voxel-based sandbox game set in space and on planets, developed and published by Czech independent developer Keen Software House. In 2013, the initial developmental release of the game joined the Steam early access program. During the following years of active development, Space Engineers sold over one million units. In total as of 2019 the game has sold over 3.5 million copies In May 2015, for approximately a year and a half, the game's source code was officially available and maintained by KSH to assist the modding community. On December 15, 2016, the game entered Beta and was later officially released on February 28, 2019.
The game is a sandbox game about engineering, construction, exploration and survival in space and on planets. Players build space ships, space stations, planetary outposts of various sizes and uses, pilot ships and travel through space to explore planets and gather resources to survive.

Title: Building Your First Rover - ULTIMATE Beginners Guide to Space Engineers
My Last Video: ULTIMATE Beginners Guide to Space Engineers - Getting Started
#SpaceEngineers #Tutorial #Guide
I have spent almost 90 hours ignoring all tutorials and just watching youtube trying to learn this game on my own. Finally cracking in survival with a cool base but this game has so many complex minutia it’s been amazing to learn. I know this is unrelated but I wanted to thank you cause I bought this game years ago and just never played it. But your vids got me to give it another go and it’s fire ❤❤❤ can’t believe how many hours I put into Ark/Valheim before I found this game. All SE needs is farming, tameable animals and food/thirst/sleep then it’s literally the perfect game for me lol.
There might be mods for your desires
I’m on the PS4, and there is no tutorial on how to build a ship or a rover
amazingly helpful and efficiently explained! less than 15minutes to go over what other videos spend an hour discussing; AWESOME VIDEO, GREAT JOB!!
Don’t use P. It disconnects everything. If you have a ship connected to the same grid as your rover, it would just fall to the ground. Put your connector on your hotbar
I mention this in the next video and I did mention it in this on but I cut it out by accident.
I'm not sure in which one but in a previous update this issue was fixed. It's safe again to use P for connecting and disconnecting grids and will only unlock the connectors of the grid you're using. That said, if you use P on a large grid vehicle/station for example, where multiple small grids are connected, then all small grids will be disconnected.
@@Zer0sLegion Something you can add to rover video's is if you drag the cockpit to the toolbar from the menu you can select "Handbreak" as an option. Its a lot safer than using P because you never know if your current grid is set to disconnect all other grids with P.
A ton of comments saying DONT PUSH P but this is the only one I saw that says why. Thank you.
Okay but how do you use the Handbrake? Because the wheels still spin if you turn them off. And there's no Brake engage in the Group menu.
This should be added to the game as official tutorial!
He even sounds like one of the people narrating the tutorial in most games
He even has that basic calming narrator voice that tutorials use.
I built a rover that was similar, but much smaller, which was just a cockpit, battery, single medium cargo, and connector all inline on a bed of light armor blocks with antenna, ore detector, and gyroscopes built into it. I took that thing all across the planet, I swear over 100 km (the waypoint said 70 km, but I think that was just if it was a straight line) just to reach the station noted in the data pad in my first seat. Not sure if it was worth tbh, but it was interesting to learn the limits of the rover, and experiment with the ability to change the power behind the wheels to go over large mountains.
Love it! i´m a "veteran" in space engineers, played from the very first minute of the game back in early access game in 2011-2012 i think. I wasn't able to play the game since 2017 anymore due to the very high increased performance needs of the game. And now (i'm able to play the game again)...the game have sooo many new features...i cant figure out them all on my one. So thank you very much for the very pointed short and pricise video. Have fun!
just started playing the game, found your tutorials and they were big help! thanks! Will wait for future tutorials 😁
More coming soon!
Reach out to the SE discord from time to time they are helpful as well
I was absolutely looking for just this video, thank you so much. Now i know why my rover decided to flip itself when i first made it. Looking forward to more videos as i go thorough your channel
There will be a video on building ships this month so stay tuned!
Came back to the game after a couple of years hiatus. Had forgotten nearly everything and your tutorials helped a ton! Please keep making them, or other SE content. Fun to listen to you as well.
New video is coming out soon!
What are the odds that I just got SE yesterday and you making this guide (which has been the best I've seen so far) litterally a day ago!? Thanks for the help.
Glad I could help!
No BS. Straight to the point. Great video
Another amazing video! Really gives me inspiration to start my own world and see what I can make
I have found steering on the back wheels to be helpful with turning circles sometimes. often when you have 4 wheels and turn in one direction the back wheels will turn "the other" shifting turning the point around which xour car turns more into the middle. However, tighter turns make rolling over much more likely xD
Well worth the wait 😁 lots of info and again you've made me wanna pick it back up 🤣
I absolutely love your humor, also love the vids they're really good! definitely sharing with my friends
Thank you for this! Your videos have been super helpful in learning the game!
Glad I could help!
Thank you for the advice on ctrl clicking to insert exact values.
You're welcome!
I always have a shortcut tab dedicated to all suspension controls to adapt to connectors and navigation like speed, including toggling rear wheels steering.
Great couple of videos. Looking forward to the next one.
Hopefully won't be such a long wait this time!
i landed between mountains that are like 3 km high... anyway... this tutorial is super helpfull, glad i found this or i wouldve just left after 10 minutes again trying to figure out where to start
Your tutorials are alot better so far than ones that have been around for awhile
Thanks 😅
I gotta level with all of you... I have 500 hours in this game and just now am learning how to do rovers...
Great tutorial and thank you for checking off another new space engineer Christmas list item! It is truly appreciated.
Glad it was helpful!
Keep on going with these tutorials!
This video helped me ALOT thanks! Thumbs up and Subbed 🙂
I just started playing and i've only watched the first two tutorial videos but i have to admit these have been some of the best organized and clearly explained tutorials I have ever seen, absolutely amazing.
You are also able to reset sliders to their default value by right clicking them (may only work in-game, not in settings and such)
Please remember to use connect in the hot bar so you don’t use P due the disconnect issues and hand brake in the hot bar
I think I mentioned that but if not I can bring it up next time.
great tutorial! hope the next one will come out *soon.*
I hope it does as well 😅
I just bought the game, and your guide was really helpful! :D
Glad I could help!
Also if you turn the power off on your 2 front wheels will stop the buggy from tilting Forward when you are breaking
Front wheel drive, rear wheel breaking can help prevent flipping in low gravity
your tutorials have saved me !
Glad I could help!
Very helpful, thanks!
That's the aim!
Finally picked up this game after eye-balling it for a while. Thanks for the guides!!!! But i dont know why, tge gyroscopes on my construction list cost metal grids...
Huh, they didn't use to.
No, yeah you are right. I was just attentive enough. Sorry for the false alarm !
Spreadsheets = lots of love My jaw actually dropped when you said it and showed it as well😂 Also amazing guide, i didnt understand anything and this makes everything sensible
Who doesn't love a good spreadsheet.
great video thanks for the help
No problem!
Very cool!
Cmon zer0ver was right there
Damn, that's a really good idea!
I LOVE THIS
this video is somewhat old but something that i learned is that removing the brakes on the front wheels reduce the amount of times you are going to flip over accidentally due to friction
One thing I'm learning with this game is sometimes we over look the littlest things in the game when it come to how to do things. I'm laughing at my self since I did that with the difference between the left and right wheel setup.
You can technically use all right wheels but you'd have to invert the steering on them which doesn't sound fun 😥
You can invert the stering on the back Wheels. This will increase the manoeuvrability of the Rover
That's hurts me on the inside
I just started and my friend told me this too about not fully upgrading blocks to save resources. This doesn't seem to be the case anymore though. Building it up to functional takes all materials and after that it doesn't use up any more.
There's so blocks in does work on like cockpits but everything else needs all the resources.
@@Zer0sLegion Idk if you may be on a different version but in my game I can't opt to not give my cockpit all resources. The moment it goes over the functional line all the resources are gone from my inventory.
Really good and concise tutorial, thanks!
watching the tutorials while downloading the game hope they help
Pretty embarrassing how many hours I've played this game before really understanding how the build planner works...
I'm new to the game like most people I like playing the Survivor mode because I want to gather and build instead of just playing the creative I play subnautica for a long time has subnautica below zero this game is basically the same but this game is a lot more functions to it as far as a front rollers on my Xbox I just wonder what is the keyboard and mouse that you can use with the Xbox I have the old Xbox One 1tb love the game so far like the videos too that people put up on how to build these awesome drilling rigs I don't mind doing a hand by hand but when I get enough steel plates I'll start building by Bass
The devs of this game owe you a huge debt
thnx
No problem
I wonder how do you make your Rover jump using a controller cause holding x or even just pressing it cause me to leave the cockpit.
It's one of the triggers and Y i'm pretty sure.
Is there a way to find patches of ore based on what the ground looks like?
I don't think so without an ore detector. Maybe the colour represents the ore?
If you're not using mods which disabled it there is discoloration of the surface over ore patches, though it's not always easy to notice especially from ground level.
Got any questions? Reply to this comment and I will cover them in a follow up video!
is it possible to increase the size of your personal storage?
@@greasytech2431 You can through the world settings, there will be a video coming up about the settings you can change soon!
Is there a way to tell where cobalt (and other ores) is without an ore finder? Some sort of terrain indication? I know that if it's on the surface I can see the colored patch but what about underground?
@@Blasted2Oblivion No, unfortunately not.
@@Zer0sLegion well, I guess that I'll do it the old fashioned way. Thank you for all the work you do making these games enjoyable to those without patience to trial and error everything.
I cannot place wheels on suspensions myself, nor can I place 3x3 or larger suspensions on a 1x1 armor cube. What am I missing here? Did they just change that?
You need to go to the terminal and add the wheel there.
So you're start is just tons and tons of stone mining?
Basically
You might get lucky and land near ore sources but stone is usually the way to go.
Me as a ps5 player taking notes 📝 😂
Your guides are great, I would not be playing if it were not for them. Only thing you go so fast its hard for a newbe like me to keep up.. :P
U can watch splitse's vids he did the most amazing toturials he builds good looking stuff he is so informative so watch him too.
It says that i need large steel tubes to comete it but those cant be made in basic assembler and i dont have enough cobalt for another one
I'm pretty sure you don't need large steel tubes for anything I built on the rover...
Ps the roto can have small head
What is the grid for the rover? It looks like 5 across - how many long?
I'm not sure, this was a while ago. This video is more of a general overview how to build a rover, I wouldn't recommend copying the one I made.
how the heck you get 5 x 5 suspension to click onto small blocks w/ out it reverting back to 3 x 3?
Just grab it from the list
Grats on that 20K Hey i know this is old but im at my wits end.. on a small or large grid my wheels vanish.. like no load at all i can spin a 360 at times and a random wheel is gone.. ive used a rotor/hinge to lift it off the ground.. ive used pistions for jacks same thing.. why after so long in the life of this game does the wheels vanish?
Sorry to hear you're having the issue but I've never heard of it before. Have you asked on the Keen discord or forums, that's probably the best place to ask.
How do you make rovers not made of toilet tissue? Even with the +50% structural mod, they still crumple into a heap if they hit anything larger than blade of grass...
Just don't crash I guess
I just started playing a day ago and im following along with this playthrough. Im having an issue that maybe someone can help me with. When making the wheels, it's requiring large metal tubes and not small. Ive changed the size of the wheel and it doesnt change. Is there a way to get the large tubes early game or am i missing something?
Yeah, you can make them at the assembler.
I dont have the cobalt to make the metal grids for the cargo :/
You can get them from the thrusters on your drop pod
Wheels are painfully expensive
You could of turned you drop pod into a miner to get started too
I think someone mentioned that in the comments last video but the point of these videos is explain to a new player how to play the game. For more advanced players, of course you can modify your starting pod into a ship but for new players that do even know what a survival kit is...
Try next time using a roto instead of a landing gear so you can charge your batteries
That's actually genius! Going to write that one down for later.
I followed this guide but my batteries are not charging when connected to the grid, I can't figure out why, I have several wind turbines and the batteries are set to recharge
There's alot of things that could be
I don't understand why it's necessary to add a battery on a planet with an atmosphere to a wheeled vehicle. As I've just been stacking blocks on my vehicles and adding a windmill to power it and work just fine for me and I don't have to worry about running out of power.😅 As I was starting to wonder what the batteries are for.
They only work on stations...
What size is that rovers body?
5 blocks? It would be probably better to build your own design than copying mine.
how do I get cobalt
Mine it from underground
It’s so weird how the small cargo and large cargo connect to normal blocks, but medium cargo doesn’t.
Medium doesn't have a large variant but it doesn't really need one
Yeah, maybe should've said what X does before telling us to hold X... I was in my freshly built rover on a test drive. Only thing that blew up was my only survival kit... Now I have to find cobalt and build a refiner before my freshly made batteries run out.
There was maybe half a second between me saying hold X and the actual result, you could have just waited...
Size doesn't matter but bigger is better 🤨
It's true!
@@Zer0sLegion atleast ya honest 💀, thanks for the video tho, helped me a ton when I first started
You can also just cannibalise components from your respawn ship and built a simple drill and search ship.
Beginners tutorial
I can't find the spreadsheet
It's in the description
don't press P....
Don't press P !
no one tell him 4 wheel drive exists
The rover in this video is 4 wheel drive...
Bigger is better you say????
I drove my rover into a ravine. It flipped and exploded. 3 hours building it :(
The Space Engineers experience
@@Anvilshock Couldn't stop, didn't see the big hole in the ground. Then my rover flipped over as I fell in. It landed right on the roof of my rover and exploded. Disintegrated lol
That is, why I only ever use rovers, than it Drops me in a Real large flat area, like the polar iceshield, else I use flying ships, as long as you stay above ground, no flupping and explofing, just remember..... They eventually All came down... The Art is, to choose the way of coming down to be a safe Landung. But hey, my small miner once crashed into the ground with energy loss, like 100m off from the base, but hey, close enough to bring the ore home and bring another battery to reactivate it... Nice hole in the ground, but this strip of armor at the underside made the whole ship to survive... Just make sure to come down like a Landung plane, not like a Meteor and you have a good Chance the ship survives the ground contact.

@@Zer0sLegion ah thanks
Google says Robin Higgins is a child psychiatrist. Is that your way of saying we're all immature and insane? 😃
@@stevenscott2136 haha right
I thought I had the video on fast forward, how does a person talk this fast????
Years of practice
@@Zer0sLegion Love it!
Only thing I would add is in all of your videos, post a blueprint or layered schematic in the notes or link them out. Its hard to copy your designs if you want to follow the tutorial at the speed you do them at.
As I said during the video, this is a guide on how to build a rover in Space Engineers, not a guide how to build this exact rover in Space Engineers. The rover I build in this video is not a great rover, just one that includes all the parts you need to build it. Also, the blueprint is in the description but I'd still advise you don't use it.
i can't fathom how this game doesn't have like a building mode in which you can plan, create template, and place blocks. seems purposefully obtuse or maybe just lazy idk
You can, it's called creative mod and blueprints.
The only problem I have with this tutorial DON'T PRESS P
Funny that lol
you have a lot of good info but you move the camera around way way to much. You appear to be shaking the camera in order to 'point' to things. Watching it makes me ill. I just couldn't finish it.
People have let me know and I've turned it down for later videos.
@@Zer0sLegion cool, thank you. Because I did otherwise enjoy the video. Keep it up.
Whos the girls face on all your videos?
