I got about 7k in credit card and car loans and 8k in student loans . It’s not a lot but overwhelming still considering I’m not making stable income lmao. If I can find a stable job and income I can pay it off in a year or so. 😢

I started watching Dave right after i bought a 20k truck in 2018, realized it was a terrible financial decision at the time. Since then I've doubled my income, married my wonderful wife and i pay off the truck next week.

As a 31 year old first generation American from Mexican parents who NEVER taught me anything about money, I discovered Dave a little too late and unfortunately do have debt, not as much as a lot of these callers, but I am in the right mindset, it’s not too late.

100% agree My daughter left school at 16yo with no qualifications. She had a learning disability. I told her find a permanent full time job and you can leave. I’m not too clever either but a very hard worker and saver. My daughter is the same. Fast forward she’s now 33yo owns her own home and has already halved her mortgage through extra principal payments. She now is in a job with $85k a car and petrol for personal use. You do not need an arts degree. You need a work ethic, saving ethic and resilience and focus.
For the first caller, $230K for two people is good income, terrible income for their debt level. I remember this call and was a classic from the pre-pandemic days. Dave should do a follow up call on her, and I wonder if she is still married.
I've noticed a trend with ppl that have high income but even higher debt. It's like they focused their brain on making money, and have no common sense on how to keep it.

@@blaze376192also remember that a lot of these people do have advanced degrees and the like. So they go on to get all of those status-driven, higher income jobs that they can brag about on LinkedIn. But because they are adults with their own bills to pay and mouths to feed, they rely heavily on debt at a time when others work. Obviously these people are extreme, but I definitely know a fair amount of people who seem to spend their 30’s and 40’s paying for what their 20’s couldn’t afford to get.

To anyone reading this: do NOT treat paypal like a bank account. They can steal your money. It happens all the time in the art community where artists have lare sums sitting in their account and PayPal flags their account and just takes it all away! And they refuse to give ir back, its just lost. So PSA, make sure you always transfer to a proper bank.

Years ago, I watched a YT channel called homeless firefighter which introduced me to this show. I followed his lead and moved into my truck bed with a camper shell. Graduated college and couldn’t fathom paying 2k in rent for an apt I was never at. 3.5 yrs later, I have no debt and 150k cash in the bank. Come from foster care so I’m used to having nothing. Separate your needs and wants and figure out what’s most important to you in the long run. For me, it’s buying a house cash out of state and working a low stress mediocre job to carry me through the rest of my years. It’s shocking to hear these stories because I can’t help but compare myself to other successful people around me and in CA there’s ALOT of them. That said, you never know what’s going on behind closed doors lol. I feel great about my situation any time I watch these videos. Thanks for sharing! Probably helps cure a lot of people stress anxiety and depression..

@@tbprofile1295 still in ca due to the labor rates. Once it comes time I’ll be looking at Colorado, Texas or Tennessee. My background is supply chain and warehouse, so I’ll likely look to be a warehouse lead in a factory or doing 3rd party quality control audits. Both fairly low impact on the body. How bout you? What do you got in the cards for yourself?

I live in the UK and started doing the baby steps at the start of 2024. I am now at the start of baby step 3 after saving £1000, paying off my credit card and selling my car. I am so thankful that I came across Dave’s videos as it has changed the trajectory of my financial future.

Regarding the first caller- I disagree with Dave about selling a $300k home to just get out $90k towards the debt. If they have a low mortgage rate, the monthly may contribute to income and with inflation it may make sense to hold that home.

@@roadrunner9622 why not? One of my best friends was really depressed and was out of work. He sat in his room on the computer for over a year. Half a million dollars was his revenue the next year. Lets just say he took performance enhancing drugs and built a web scraper which would gather and collate arbitrage opportunities. He also programmed freelance.

@@montanax8127 bingo. food budget went from 2000 a month to 300 a month. that was the biggest change. i took the opportunity to eat healthier, cook for myself (vegetables though, not rice), and to stop drinking all together. and “NO DOOR DASH TONY” absolutely zero door dash, which was my biggest offender. i don’t eat out, so for most people it would be no eating out. and i don’t mean i did it every once in a while. i stopped it completely.
The first caller is exhibit A on why our government has gotten us in so much national debt. She keeps spouting off these "advanced degrees", but that doesn't mean squat if you don't actually have knowledge that you can apply in day-to-day life. And she worked in government policy??? Heaven help us all.
That's their personal choices. The government didn't tell them to get those degrees. They sre also living above their means .

Exactly, the government didn't make her or her husband do anything. They were falsely led by society's advice on getting advanced degrees to obtain advanced careers. Doesn't work that way, and working for the federal government definitely limits your ability to make a lot of money.

Most college graduates get that “whatever degree”, only because they studied hard to pass a test. None of that translates to real life, except to just get by. Goes to me, got a great degree - because I could pass the tests. Looked good to everyone but me. Never what I wanted to do. But, these people blow my mind for their utter ignorance. Up side I have never been in debt and never will be. I live comfortably - approaching 75 and my future looks good, except for the direction our Government is taking us. One day at a time.
Dave is right. My wife and I spent for a lifestyle to try to keep up with everyone around us mostly out of jealousy. All it did was get us into crushing debt. We got together and made radical changes. To this day when I pull up to a light in my 12 yr old rusty truck to a guy driving a brand new $80k truck I smile knowing he's probably broke and my wife and are are now debt free and millionaires now.
Excellent. I couldn't care less about what others have. I want peaceful and happy life and that does not involve showing off.
I drive a 20 year old truck! So many millionaires are cheap as hell. I knew of one who was living in a mobile home he was that cheap. Being cheap helped to become a millionaire. No need to be flashing. No worry’s about gold diggers. No one knows you have over a million.

Yeah, It's still his show but like he said in an interview.... he wants to retire and if he died tomorrow he wouldn't want everything that was built to collapse because it was solely reliant on him if he died. So they have been transitioning him out. It's actually nice to see him being able to spend more time with his grand babies after working so hard and building an empire. 😊
While I understand I’m a lot closer to these people than I am to being a billionaire…the holes some people dig for themselves really are mind blowing.

In Europe we used to have such a thing as a ‘Finishing School’, where wealthy parents sent their daughters to learn social skills to improve their chances of marrying a man of wealth and position. Which is pretty much what the majority of University education has become these days, but with zero chance of hitting the husband jackpot. That is, if you are investing hundreds of thousands in an education, you’d better be damned sure it will give you an income .
In what country in Europe is this happening?
Looking at these episodes with all the “student loans” and realizing the bless we are in when the government is taking care of our education!

I feel so sorry for all these people who start out in life in debt because of a student loan. It’s crazy. I live in England, I didn’t go to college, which would have been free by the way. I didn’t want to go university as I could see everyone coming out starting life in debt. I got a job straight from school. Never borrowed money, never had a credit card. I am now 70, live a very comfortable life, no mortgage on my million dollar house, no debt, plenty to live on. My son didn’t want to go to university, he got a job straight from school. He has now just bought the company he works for. He has no debt apart from a home loan which is soon to be paid off. He is 42. University is not the be all and end all. You can get a job and make it in life without university!!!

@@harrytipton3996 haha at 38 now looking back now I had a LOT of learning and experience left yet to take in at 22. And at 55 I'm sure I'll say similar of my 38yo self (life willing). But I do recall having that 6+ years of work and real world (aka post school) experience in that 29yo range felt like a significant leap in my personal wisdom of the world we are a part of and an influence upon.

I think the second caller is wise to not tell his mum. And I say this as a mum of 2 very tech savvy boys. He needs to protect what he’s worked hard to build up. Of course if my boys built up this kind of wealth in a legal way I’d be so proud of them and I’d be asking that they talk to a financial advisor to best utilise that wealth. But I know some parents would take advantage of the situation.
Not to mention that by not telling her he could get her in trouble with the IRS. Being 16 she is most definitely claiming him as a dependent on her taxes. If she claims him as a dependent she will get in trouble for tax fraud. If he doesn’t file taxes that’s tax evasion.
I love Dave. Met Dave through FPU back in 2012 .... its taken me years, but I've finally fallen in love with this. This program for success brings confidence, solid planning and peace, peace, peace. Shalom to all.
Discovering this show from across the Atlantic. The financial situations of some of these people are mind boggling. I've been working for a decade, and my way of thinking has been the following: enjoy today, but NEVER spend more than you can afford/pay back in a reasonable timeframe. I've never had much money saved, but I've always kept the boat afloat. Because of this, I see myself as bad at managing finances. But seeing that some people are crippled with tens of thousands in debts, I may not be as bad as I thought.

Try giving the credit card company roughly $4k it works like a charm. Key is not spending anything else on it while you do that.
My son got a degree in History. His dad helped him quite a bit, and so did I, and he worked full time through undergrad. He taught as a grad student and adjunct and worked as a grad assistant, AND got stipends.for grad school. Then he got his PhD in April 2020, right when college/university enrollment dropped 40% because of covid. He's doing well now, but what a nightmare! If he'd done a bunch of student loans he'd have drowned. Literally.

I agree! At 16, my mother would've tried taking that money. I would've advised him to move that money out of PayPal and if I were consulting anyone, it'd be a trusted financial advisor.

Every counselor in grade school: “go to college, or be a loser” Millennials: “ok, I don’t want to be a loser” Fast forward: Now broke due to crippling student loan debt.
I'm 40. My mom today: Go to college. They have adult programs. Maybe night school. Otherwise you'll be a loser. Me: Mom, I'm already successful. I live in my own home, I have a second property, and no debt. I make 3x the average salary in my area. My mom: Well, yeah, but if you get a college degree you'll have something to fall back on. 😂
@@HomestarCrawler 🤣. Just keep doing your thing, man. Thankfully, I went to community college and dropped out when I realized it wasn’t for me. My sister and many others weren’t so fortunate. But if a 6-figure salary, owning a home, no debt (outside of mortgage), and an 800+ credit score is any indication, I did all right for myself. Not that this is a financial accomplishment, but I also have two beautiful kids and a lovely wife. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that, as it’s the most important part of my life. Anyway, college is not for everyone.
That's a crazy reason to go to college. I went AFTER I did research into being a CPA, including salary, demand, etc. and knew that my degree would be worth it. These school counselors need to be trained better.

As a debt collector, I can confirm that debt consolidation companies tend to suck I've had people call in panicking because they are getting garnished for a debt they thought was paid

I LOVE history. And archaeology, geology, geography, languages and natural history. I can afford to love them because i went to Med School, which gave me the tools to learn in any field in which i was interested IN MY SPARE TIME whilst i was earning £££££££££. And the bonus is, i can afford to travel to see for real all the things i have been researching in my spare time.

Humanitys should always be studied in free time. The ones who want to do humanitys must have trully rich parents and be ready for a long grind untill they make a name in the field or a professor retires and you get his chair.

My son who also works e commerce told me that for that 16 yr old to be making $50k/mo in the niche he is in he is likely laudering money for an organized crime ring and he doesn't realize it. He said it's very difficult to make that much in what he is doing. He said these foreign organized crime rings prey on these younger internet savvy kids because they often don't understand what is happening.

Or your son isn't very good at e-commerce.. its like someone who makes 30k a year telling you that you can only make 300k a year by doing illegal stuff...THERE ARE LEVELS and this kid might be on a very high one compared to other kids.....
@mattkosiarski658 my son makes well above this. He's 25 and is already semi-retired. He is speaking simply based on the area of e commerce that this kid says he is involved in.
I think that was an old call. There was a moment in time where drop shipping was very profitable but too many people started doing it and the moment has now passed. A bit like what Dave predicted would happen.
Working construction, dept free great credit score. About to open up another line of credit to be able to use it to purchase supplies for my first duplex. Which will be paid in cash. Then I’ll refinance. Thank you Dave and my boss for all of the advice. Plz hold me accountable god.
I'm very confused by this statement. You are purchasing the house cash and then buying supplies on a credit to fix it up? What are you refinancing the supply credit? Are you planning on selling your old place or the new place? Or are you renting one out? If you are looking to rent one out I would just avoid this whole thing and use your surplus in investing. If you're moving then I'd honestly pay for supplies out of pocket and have a mortgage. If you are flipping then what you're doing makes sense but I'm not sure what you're refinancing.
