I’ve taken what I’ve learned from you and spread this wealth of knowledge to my firewood cutting buddies. They’re in awe of how fast my saw cut. They asked me to show them pretty much after the first cuts. I said if I can do it, then you can do it too! Thank you again for the wealth of knowledge and info!
well done friend, thx for being here
Me too
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith why you use long br
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith Do you have a video on square-ground chain vs round file chain and other chains and their proper uses...?
Same here. Share the info
My hand filing has come so far with your help, still have a way to go but now I actually love doin it thanks for these comp vids
I knew there would be an amendment to clairify the gullet in/out that depends on the grind, roud hand file vs square cut. Thank you Sir for continuing education.
If Billy Ray says get the gullet , I’m going after the gullet and I’ll get the bloody thing 😀. Thanks Billy Ray. Cheers 🍻 🍻 🍺 .
Makes sense to me friend! I remember a video of Harvey's ( Ironhorse) where he talked about how a chip is formed, and how the top plate cut, and what the purpose of the "C" shape was all about, and its importance in actually removing the chips as the saw cuts. He hit it quickly in the video, and I backed the video up several times to fully understand it. But after I saw it, it made so much more sense, and I spent a lot more time working on filing. Between you two, I've learned a TON of info! You all rock! Much love to all from Northern Alberta!
Mike from the Virginia Piedmont here...you are a huge help. Love your videos and the info you provide.
glad friend
Thank you Buckin. Lots of great info, you sharing your wealth of knowledge is a wonderful learning tool.
I'm grateful for all the years of experience and knowledge you share with us I've go so much better at doing my round and square ground chains now alot of friends even got me sharpening there chains keep up the great videos
Awesome explanation and demonstration on this gullet subject. Thank you for always covering things so in depth. Great job sir. Love ya brother. 🌲❤️🌲👊🪓
Thank you for clearing this all up for those of us who don't get to see all your videos or may miss nugget in a longer video.
Great to see you running the Egan Straight Shot exhaust cover on that 500i! I run those on my 400 and 661. I can’t say enough great things about them! Throttle response or Crack that you speak about for limbing. The pull and overall sound! Hands down best bang for the buck for a saw this side of port work in my humble opinion!
Buckin you are a great teacher, I’m able to take what I learn from you and give it to my sons and feel comfortable with them running saws with me. Thanks for the great content and kindness God bless!
This is great ive spent hours with my boy
Today on Ax Men on DEFY tv…they showed the segment with Buckn on it…that was the only episode that was worth a hoot
I'm on 7 episode s I think
Man you get me motivated BBR , spent my Friday night saving a chain that was mangled top and bottom . Spent 45mins filing it back into service ….. cut some auzzy hardwood sleeper with it today , was like butter 😎😎
Life's too short to run a dull saw👍👍
Phew! My t-shirt and sticker are not obsolete. Thank you for this Billy Ray! As always appreciate your wisdom and experience that you share.
Love the videos buckin! I've got a few smaller saws I use lots and they cut so good thanks to your advice and knowledge!
Another free lecture from a true master of the trade, videos like this are so valuable as all is been tested in real life. Thank you for sharing this.
About 6 years ago i had 4 chains i had a shop sharpen then i had all dull chains and went to hand sharpen them and found out that a shop work harden the chain and my file couldn't file them. So u kinda got to what ever way u start by sharpen your chains you got to kinda keep doing that way for the life of the chain. Thanks to buckin my hand sharpening is better than a new chain out of the box. You people that hand sharpen know what i mean. Gota love a saw thats hand sharpen and it pulls it self hard into the wood. Buckin does the best information on getting u chain sharp. Tyvm buckin
Super helpful Buck'in. I was confused last week but I got it now. I just started learning how to use hand files and feel much better now after watching this video. Thanks - Keep smiling and keep your sticks on the skins. :)) Cheers!
Hi Buckin and family, great video, I have learned lots from your filing videos, especially from back in the day of the eye in the sky you used to use to show the teeth. Thanks again for your knowledge and kindness. From NB , continue to watch your videos from years ago.
Buckin just about the time I think I have something figured out you show me something new. Great stuff. Thanks
hahahaaa love it
Thank you SO much BR for the lesson once again....I have learned lots Brother and God Bless and stay safe out there..
hi Buckin' ,, I want to thank you very much for the time you giving us to clarify such an important thing ( filling ),, I only have small saw's, on 3/8 husky T525, sthil 009L, echo cs 3450, and a .325 on a husky 550 mark2 and it helps a lot to know what to look for when filling ,,, it's much easier and safe,,, since i found out your channel i'm stuck here loll,,
You should be called Buckin Billy Ray Rona, sharing your knowledge is highly infectious. I learned how to sharpen a chain from an earlier video, literally you made the penny drop. As said below I, too, now show friends how to sharpen and they no longer go to the shop to have their chain shrunk. But you've just sent me down another rabbit hole... All the best and thank you.
Hey buckin! I tried your baby C method with a 5/32 file (all I had on hand) on a 3/8 full comp, full chisel safety chain and boy does it rip! For being a safety chain I'm really impressed.
You hit the nail on the head BBR.... back in the day we would often use the 13/64 file on the "back half" of the tooth in an effort to retain the hook (or gullet) on a well worn chain. It worked well if done carefully....👍
Youbet
You're ringing clear as a bell, brother! Straight forward stuff here!
Very informative Buckin Billy Ray! Thanks for sharin your knowledge!
Mini C - great idea! And I see you like cutting dogs heavy. I do the same so I can use the chain to pile my wood. Thank you for sharing your expert ideas. Cheers!
buckin thanks for sharing your knowledge
stihl definitely designed that saw for the production timber faller. it's a high rpm big wood big bar logging saw it loves sharp chain and big wood. loved the video 👍😁
"See, C, see? C, see, C!" I love it! Thanks for all the knowledge! Thanks for all the wisedom! Thanks for being you!
Thanks for the vid buckin always a pleasure watching you do ur thing!! Ps that 500i is a nice saw it’s on my bucket list
Nice vintage Club Dates! I picked up a set several months ago because the price was too good and I fell in love!
After i srarted folow you, i have become good in chain filing👌 I am also kinder for everybody🤗 Love you and your videos♥️ Regards from Finland 🇫🇮
Peter what great piece of wordmanship, thx for sharing this with us friend
Same here and now I’m taking first steps in full chisel chain and square filing.
SPOT ON Billy! Great Tutorial for all that watch and Listen!
These videos are great and just the right length to eat my bag of popcorn.
Great video buckin , totally makes sense to me 100% , common sense , pretty cool to grind n leave the gullet in as a extra tooth , and to make the baby c also as a extra tooth , cool stuff buckin
So are you suggesting using the "baby C" on any size chain? Interesting results for sure. Just trying to understand here BBRS. I just learned of you and your channel about 3 months ago and became an instant fan and subscriber! Your back story and journey into cutting wood is fascinating! You're a great story teller and your motivation and passion for what you do is infectious. Much respect to you sir!!!
Very nice video . Super on point sharpening tips buddy 👍🏻🇦🇺
Great explanation my friend thank you.
Good info friend. Thanks for sharing 👍
Finally subscribed today after watching many many videos in the past year, after seeing you on the drum kit. Newfound respect and perspective for buckin billy ray today
My Stihl ms500i is my favorite and most used saw. I installed a bark box and Max flow air filter and soon a Wiseco piston. An aftermarket piston helps a lot.
Also my favorit saw
Bumping up compression or is a durability issue?
Another Awesome video Thanks Buckin
It totally makes sense... Thanks billy!
Thank you, I needed this amazing video!!
Great video too sir,
Thanks for a video. Probably another source that is fabulous too is done by Farmcraft101. Being relatively new to chainsaw use these two videos are the most instructive and least confusing that I have viewed. 👍.
It's been a while. I need this right now.
Hey buckin I'm a 26 year old in South East NY. Wood stove is my only heat source, going into my second winter. Love the wood man life. Running a McCullough pro 10-10 automatic as my only good saw. Gas mix 50:1 generic oil. Any good maintenance tips or tips to improve running please and thank you. Love the work man please don't stop.
Just ran across your channel...you da bomb! Subscribed!
I didn’t learn what I wanted to but knowledge is knowledge nonetheless. It’s always entertaining seeing your videos. Git da gullet!
It would be a small percentage that were confused, I've sent my son here to get a better idea of hand filing and told him when you talk square grind, just forget about it, he'll never cut for a living. But you keep up the great teaching.
"Confidence with chain and Fortitude in filin' "!!!! That is Mr. BBR! Love you all...❤❤❤ Lieutenant Bradley
hi good sir
Thank you for explaining that I understand it I think I will try to sharpen a couple of my old chains to see if I can make them and I will get the gullet thank you
Let us know
Hey Buckin Billy THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.... that explained SO much. I appreciate it... much more clarity now.... I will be a much better filer now!!! Keep Buckin" Thanks
Awesome , thanks for sharing.
Good show as always BBR. 😊
You are a very energetic man!
Hi Mr bucken loving these sharpening vids. You can have the best chainsaw in the world if you're chain is poo you won't cut poo. Always interested in what you have to say. You don't just say it. You show it. Thats 10 outa 10 in my book. 👌👍 Made in Tasmania.
Nothing like a sharp tool
Nothing beats a good file No.1 is" PFERD " it's sharpening a chain like there is no tomorrow!
You are crazy man Billy,❤ but every time i turn one of film on im sucked in. And my day just getting better. Thank you Billy🤟🏻🚀🇩🇰🌲
I did miss this video. Thanks a million for this. I'm using 5/32 file. 1/8 files are to pricey. Lol. That baby c runs better then 7/32 filed chain. Awesome video buckin. I'm going to try the nasty hook with high rakers. I'll keep you posted
Thanks for sharing Buckin
Great video Buckin’! Damn, Stihl has certainly set the injector programming to give it a LOT of fuel. That puppy is still 4 stroking under some fair load!
many men say the same thing ,, they like it in the wood
Keep it going Billy. We're getting it, some slower than others. We like being a man too. Get the Gullet is awesome. See you in the next video.
Your a Good Cat brother! Thanks for all the knowledge friend
Thanks for explaining why you always talking about the gullet, been confused for months hearing that from you
Thanks for clarification. Now I get the gullet. Er I mean understand the difference! 👍🏻
Very informative..
Buckin, try taking a "fine" slice off the "side" plate of the raker. Also I used to take a little time to roll over the raker to round it off. It's smoother...
I have a 500 I steel chainsaw and I always keep the chain very sharp I never have to force it or anything like that it goes through the wood like no tomorrow Great video I will have to try that one one of my chains👍
Hi Buckin could you do a video on chin grinding and grinders for the farmer/semi pro user. What grinder to buy? Not a cheap £50 but also not a £500 machine. Thanks.
Nice Jon Bonham there at the end!! Great content keep it up!!!!!
I saw a tiny little McCulloch saw in a pawn shop today. Almost bought it, but it was electric. Not a fan of cords. Should I have bought it anyway?
Great video 👍
Hey
Yes brother let her rip round file 👍👍💪 great video’s u alway rock em out LOVE WINS
IT makes sense now ! I get it fully ,you turned the light on ,I now see the light ,I can't get it off my mind ! LMAO I got it Thanks Tj
13/64 is for 3/8 Stihl chain. 7/32 is for 3/8 Oregon chain. I keep them both in my 3/8 file set. The handle on the 13/64 file has Stihl written on it with a sharpie and my 3/16 file has .325 written on its file handle. My Stihl picco files have an LP written on their file handles. I hand file everything.
Thanks sir.
Buckin have you ever used a Stihl 2 in 1 file? I sharpen my chain 1-2 strokes every tank of fuel. Works great out in the field with a stump vise for production firewood cutting.
No gagets for me thx
Hier kann man noch etwas lernen. Wünsche euch ein schönes Wochenende. Peter.
Buckin, use to run Carlton Magna chisel .404 on a Olimpkic 284 and used Ferd files 28” bar loved that saw 30 years ago cutting firewood didn’t break it enough got greedy and turned it up well didn’t have the money to rebuild but now if I can find one would love to get one
Buckin,to add to my comment I just bought a house and got gotten married wife not helping with any bills didn’t go past 12 years Worked my butt off with 4 jobs finally got to a factory job that I love you might think I’m crazy but it’s the best money I’ve ever made 2 miles from home and only work 14 days a month don’t need to cut firewood but a dear friend of mine just had his second knee replacement going to buy a new saw and give him some help he has never been to Bunion going be there he love’s the Macs has two 2 man macs
Hey buckin Billy Ray how do you like the sounds with the Egan straight shot Vs WCS barkbox you wasent so happy with the sounds from the barkbox in one of your ilder videos like you said IT sounded like crap Best regards from Denmark 🇩🇰
Any feedback or comments on those electric circular grinders? I was gifted one from my first boss (not because he didn't use it....it was 90 when he quit!) and that's about all I've used but I've never cut enough since working with him to find/know the difference and what the shortcomings are of the electric grinder (besides lack of portability).
BBR is just a file man. IF you use your grinder correctly then it’s gonna be fine. Don’t burn the cutters, don’t go to deep, don’t ski jump. It’s ALWAYS a fine line, but so is a hand file. Just sayin 😮
Hey Buckin', can I bring my saw to you to look at? I do my best but it's never good enough. It seems my saw won't cut straight. If I get into a bigger log, it starts cutting to the left and the bar gets jammed in the cut. Like it's trying to cut a "J". I need help. I'm asking you now, but I'm not in the country and won't be there for another year. Thanks so much. I'd love to meet you anyways. Cheers.
I’m about gettin the Gullet!!🤘🏼👍🏼
Heck ....I'd like to see ya play more drums more often....
19:27 Some chains have round line on side of ther tooth. I guess it's to remind to file it correctly. Line on top for angle and line on side for "C".
You the Man Buckin!!!
Another good video my friend
Love the video(s)!! I understand what ya mean about the gullets, but why do you use square ground only for production falling, and round filed chains for residential and firewood? Would you use square ground chain for a Stihl 200t?
For production square chain cuts faster and you are less likely to encounter metal in those trees. Residential trees can have nails in them and semi chisel chain is easier to sharpen if you hit metal.
I see the Egan straight shot on the 500.did it change the saw at all? Put one on a 362... totally different saw.
I run the stihl ms250 and ms261 cutting creosote treated piles up to 20", 3-4" by 12" and 12" by 12". Building piers, docks floats... marine construction. I need to make precision cuts. The chain requires a 3/16" file. Do you think I'm using the most optimal saw and chain?
Buckin', Stihl calls for a 13/64" file for my MS361. Thanks for your great shows.
Kool
Billy im confused,I have a 3/8 chain on my 500i and the shop and stihl chart says to use a 13/64 file,I did notice that file cuts the gullet deep.but misses the very top edge on the top tooth.
Earned my sub 👍🏼!!
Thanks Billy
