"A melting pot of South-East Asian Cultures, and East Asian voice actors." LOL
@Ben John East Asians did the voice acting for characters that are supposed to be south-east asians which are totally different cultures
That means nothing, their cultures are still different (every country’s culture is different, not just regions) so it would be nice for the characters to be represented accurately.
@Ben John That's like saying Brazilian culture is similar to Canadian culture because one's South American and the others Northern American so no difference because they're both American.
What I saw was just East Asian costume with everything else South East...
The shade jn this one
"Actually no, no she is not. I'm sorry but no. We've been watching the movie. You shot her. No." Thank you! My gosh I found that line so incredibly stupid.
Literally all you had to do to make that line work would be have the crossbow accidentally go off while the two struggled against each other.
@@dakariusashby7968 It went off after Raya struck it with her sword, positioning it perfectly to strike the dragon.
@@guy8646 You know, i understood it like that the first time, but everyone else just lays all the blame on the one holding the gun? Then again, if you don't stage a critical scene to read absolutely clear, and you ruin the climactic confrontation for half of the viewers, that's still a problem.
Considering the backstabbing and selfish things Namaari did, it seemed pretty stupid to trust her.
@@dakariusashby7968 um... that's what ... happened. Although do you mean like a complete accident where the crossbow was never supposed to be aimed at her?
I'm so glad to hear someone else call out my main problem with this movie's message about trust and how Raya was exactly the right amount of trusting for her situation. If someone repeatedly screws you over then you are not at fault for not trusting them. Raya is not 'equally to blame' for Sisu, since she would not have been shot if Namaari hadn't been about to betray the world AGAIN, despite already getting thousands of people killed. Don't get me wrong, this is a great movie, but the message about trust is off the mark, imo.
this isn't a great movie. animation and water isn't everything. if the plot is crap, the movie is crap. and this movie's message fails.
Not to mention a bad message to teach kids.... no matter what someone does to you, touch you inappropriately, hurt the people you love, trick you, and lie, you must still trust them... like no. My kids are gonna know that if someone hurts them they dont have to trust that person ever again for the sake of their own mental health. If anyone backstabs me or betrays my trust they are erased from my life. Dont need that kind of toxicity in my life
But namari wouldnt hv shot sisu if raya trusted her and didn't throw the sword which, pretty clearly was the reason the arrow got shot and hit sisu
@@musicbyshara why bring a crossbow to begin with? Why threaten deadly force with a weapon? Whyd she pull it out? She shouldnt have even brought the crossbow out. Im sorry but Im not into that whole scene. I think it would have been more powerful if Namari gave them the stone and joined Rayas side. Imagine the tension if the mom showed up and Namari walked over to Raya and Sisu and said shes not following her plan. That would have been waaaayyy better and more emotional and really redeemed her character.
Also Namaari was pulling the trigger and Raya saw that and reacted. Namaari probably would’ve ended up stopping but Raya didn’t know that and she doesn’t trust Namaari, she has no reason to.
"streched-out my little pony" is exactly what came to my mind when I first saw Sisu bruh
Good to know I wasn't the only one.
I feel like they made her like that so that it would appeal to kids and they could make money off selling toys seriously a missed opportunity to make it a good dragon design ATLA did it wayyy better
@@del7920 um no it's inspired by a dragon called bakunawa/bakonawa from the Philippines, who eats the half of the moon, that's why we have a half moon it's an urban legend kind of thing, and obvsly it doesn't look like a stretch my little pony idk about you, but I think your imaginations run wild.

Something that really annoyed me about this was that Raya and low budget Zuko kept talking like they used to be best friends that grew up together, but in reality they knew each other for 3 hours at most and their entire relationship was based off a lie anyway.
They were both very very lonely nerds.
right
@Sarah VanBuren I want to be offended by that, but you're kinda right.
I did not took it like that at all. They were simply just rivals, and really gets on each other's nerves, and understandably so since what went down between the two of them destroyed the world. They never acted like they used to be best friends, but they did know each other long enough at least to be really bitter rivals, we don't know how much they've been fighting each other in between the time jump.
Sounds they are more like Kora and Asami during the Book: Air.
"You shot her" YES THANK YOU! No one seems to talk about how bad that was.
Awful writing.
And she was pulling the trigger before Raya threw the sword.
She shot her because of Raya. Yhe framing of the scene told us she wasnt going to shoot
@@BabyGirlTiny She was pulling the trigger. Also, the whole thing was entirely Namaari's fault for bringing that crossbow in a meeting of peace.
@@BabyGirlTiny Hmm, you'd think bringing guns to a UN meeting would be OK too huh?
Sisu: "The only thing I knew is, that I trusted them, and they trusted me..." Well no sh*t they trusted you and viceversa! They were you're siblings, it's a completely different concept in trusting a familiar rather than a unrelated person who let you scars for life
Exactly!
But to be fair, Sisu also came from a very different time. It was incredibly peaceful and prosperous, so of course her values would be different. Kind of like how people from rich and peaceful first world countries (like Switzerland, for example) will regard the world differently from someone from a chaotic third world country (like the Philippines).
I wouldn't say trusting family is a given thing with errybody lol
@@en3788 Sure, but there's no reason to believe why the other dragons didn't trust Sisu, it works in this context

That Avatar opening was just genius, because during the movie, I even expected a type of "Firebending Dragon Dance" with Raya and Sisu in the 3rd act.

I mean both avatar and raya are inspired by SE asia , ofcousre avatar has more asian inspirations too, but the theme and feels is generally the same, so not surprising that they feel similar.

I feel like the real lesson is to only trust others if you have something to exchange. Then suddenly, everyone wanted to work together, just because the last dragon appeared in exchange to bring everyone back.

Raya had so much potential. The animation and production were both incredible! The only issue is the plot was WAYYY too ambitious to fit in such a short movie. A plot like this needed at least a whole extra hour to develop properly. The movie was way too rushed and so many details were barely brushed on when they needed to be more developed. It’s sad because the plot, animation and production were all so amazing but it was so rushed and the conflict was so easily resolved, it made it pretty unmemorable. (Let’s Not mention the awkward “relatable” jokes)
Not only that but the plot is an overused one....by that i mean unoriginal 😔 it was so boring the only thing good about it was the visuals 😬
I fully agree! I would like a serie, each episode from one of the nations.
@@happy3475 But those visuals were pretty incredible
@@SheegogProductions agreed
They also could’ve redeemed Namaari better tbh
I think the whole "trust" message would have worked better if Raya and Namaari had been close friends when they were kids and Namaari's mother had manipulated or tricked her into betraying Raya. There was absolutely no reason for Namaari to have a second chance, she did horrible things. They needed to make her a good person who got tricked into being the bad guy, and they needed to give her and Raya a background that gave Raya a reason to trust her.
"-- And a stretched out My Little Pony." THANK YOU. People out here comparing her to Elsa when this dragon looks a heckuva lot like Celestia. How quickly one forgets the age of Bronies...

She looks like the collective lovechild of Sully, Randall, Elsa and Celestia
“Who feels like an exchange student from the boss baby franchise!” 😆
I swear she is
They showed a trailer for "The Boss Baby 2" before the movie when I went to see it.
One tiny thing that bugged me: they had tons of imagery that was clearly inspired by Thai Naga type dragons and then their dragon characters look next to nothing like those. I would have loved to see the rad snakey unicorn dragon you see in that culture instead of some vaguely asian furry thing that could have come straight out of a barbie movie (not dissing barbie movies but the style does not match the rest of this movie). It'd be great to see a friendly snake-ish character in part because it'd fit with the trust theme and teach people to not fear snakes so much, and in part because it'd just look really cool.
I saw someone say that there’s actually a dragon like the ones in the movie from the Philippines. Some of their features are just altered because it’s a kids movie.
People already complain about the message of trusting strangers, they're gonna go crazy if kids are gonna start to pet random snakes
All snakes still have fangs and a lot have venom. Why would anyone want to trust such a thing.
I do see your point but… Nah, man, snakes are the worst.
And then even barbie had a scaley dragon xD
When I first saw Raya in her first scene I immediately thought she looked like Avatar Korra.

That's because the base plotlines for both movies are pretty standard storylines that have been around for ages and ages, but Raya gets compared only to Avatar because they both have Asian-inspired settings. I never jived well with the Avatar comparisons for that reason. The character acre for Zuko is obviously better. Still there are some clear similarities. What they did with Zuko over 3 seasons cannot be don’t over 90 minutes. Still Raya and the Last Dragon was low key a deep movie.
Well I mean, for a huge story like this, I wasn't surprised that they kinda hard to rush the first half. Made the second act better.
@@liamgonzales8111 Tep. Zuko also apologized and slowly became friends with the Gaang in a period of time, especially to Katara. Namaari never apologized but passed the blame onto Raya who had every right to be wary of her. Zuko accepted that he was in the wrong and actually took the time to redeem himself and his nation, something Nammari and Fang never did in the movie.
That's my only gripe, they ZIPPED through this thing, boy. We didn't need a *ton* more time with the other folks, but more with Raya/Namaari's upbringings and getting us more acclimated with Sisu first showing up wouldn't have made it feel like SUCH a sprint. It's still a fine movie, but yeah.
Duh? Naamari didn't need arc..since its already told by Zuko.
I got an Honest Trailer commercial for Loki before watching This Honest Trailer. And I'm not even the tiniest bit upset
Omg me too, I was confused, thought I was going crazy when I heard his voice but saw Loki on my screen.
Same! I thought I clicked on the wrong video at first
I haven’t even watched it but the little thing going on between Namaari and Raya has not gone unnoticed
I totally ship them
My family was watching it together the otherday and i turned to my Dad and i was like, you can't tell me these two don't have s3xual tention and he was like, thats just tention. No no no, trust me. I'm a bisexual, I'd know.
i literally clicked on this exclusively to see if he makes a joke about the tension between them
The bolt?
Please say "I never actually said this sentence. Screen Junkies now has a synthetic approximation of my voice made from previous recordings."
Joke's on you: They really have one.
Congrats, he did :)
You guys are such a tease. Now I want a real Honest Trailer for Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon.
Honest trailer was made for those kind of films. 🤣
SHO'NUFF!
IKR? Sing it with me, y'all! "When you got that glow!"
True story! If they don't do it now I will be HIGHLY disappointed
Ew
Seriously though, the movie had such fast pacing it stopped making sense. They found Sisu in the first 20 minutes like seriously.
Thank god Twitter didn't find this video
3:29 Glad someone said it. Admit it she didn’t trust them when Sisu did. Someone who’s beginning to show trust would start lowering a crossbow. Not pull further down on the trigger
She was extremely conflicted, which would cause muscle twitching like that
Total gaslighting moment lol
@@haydenberends3905 👍👍
@@Shodanza How do you mean?
@The Void Oh. Yeah, that's how I see it, too. She wasn't even aiming at Sisu until Raya knocked her crossbow in that direction. It's the subtle details that count.
The exchange student from Boss Baby franchise cracked me up 😂😂.
"While the movie will teach you to never trust ANYONE."
I watched this movie the day it came out and in my opinion it really was a waste of money xD Even though the world looked gorgeous they didn't spend any time exploring it and instead throw characters into the ring that felt like their only purpose was story progression. It was so boring, but this video made it at least kind of funny xD
Yeah dude that part when she was like "you're equally to blame" I was like NAAAHHHH dude.
Yugi: "I use polymerization to fuse Avatar: The Last Airbender and Moana to create-" Kaiba: "It's impossible!" Yugi: *"RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON"* Kaiba: *"NOOOOOO!"*
Little Kuribo should do that xD
Kaiba: “It’s all over now Yugi! Blue Eyes, white lightning attack!” Yugi: “Wrong, its my turn now! I play Mirror Force in face up attack position” Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 1 episode ALL
I was so confused, I clicked on this video but got an advertisement for Loki with the honest trailer guys voice and I was so confused 🤣🤣🤣 funny vid.
Never have I agreed with you more. I remember thinking SO MANY TIMES, that it was just like avatar, except without character development
The How Train Your Dragon Trilogy will always be the greatest animated movies to star Dragons!
To me it's spirited away
that is a good wisdom
I couldn't agree more.
Yaaaaas!
Yes!!!!
It’s time for an Honest Trailer of the Snyder Cut… for _REAL_ this time!
yes!
the Snyder Cut of their HT Snyder Cut?
They could do that, but then the trailer would be an hour long and most people would get bored and turn it off halfway through. ;-)
4:02 "If I were real water, I would be woried" Hahahahahaha
"Yeah I kinda caused the apocalypse twice, what of it"
Please do an Artemis Fowl Honest Trailer, that was a travesty
they did
@@scarlet_witch_. No they didn't
@@TheOldSoul oh ok
@Robert Monroe I can live with that 😂
Finally! SOmebody agrees with me on this! Thank you Moses Paul-King! Make "Honest Trailers | Artemis Fowl" Happen, Screen Junkies!
"That's some real efficient parent-killing, right there." I lost it. =D
THANK YOU!! Finally some truth about the fact that Raya did NOTHING wrong from the start!!
2:35 “bravo! that is some really efficient parent killing right there” 😂💀😶
Next week do the trailer for The Snyder Cut of Justice League.
They already did 11 Months ago 😉
@@hamzaliaqat1731 We need update one ☝️
Nah they probably don’t want to face that giant L they took by saying it didn’t exist
I’m glad I’m not the only one who picked up on the fact that very little in the movie makes me inclined to trust people.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
true true
Not to mention a bad message to teach kids.... so what now Disney is telling kids to be okay with someone gaslighting them and pretty much abusing them? no matter what someone does to you, touch you inappropriately, hurt the people you love, trick you, and lie, you must still trust them... like no. My kids are gonna know that if someone hurts them they dont have to trust that person ever again for the sake of their own mental health. If anyone backstabs me or betrays my trust they are erased from my life. Dont need that kind of toxicity in my life...
When he said that Raya wasn’t to blame for the dragon’s death, I don’t know how many times I screamed “YES!!!!!!!!”
3:00 “maybe something more..” even honest trailer ships them
"What if cloud, but bad" you killed me
2:46
Ia that leak of final fantasi?
I love the Deep Sarcastic Voice 🥳🥳 Yes Rayatar the last Dragonbender😂😂😂
You’re actually first but you changed your comment so doesn’t count
I saw it too I was the second one but now I changed
I haven't watched this movie yet, but that line: "In a different world we could have been friends" reminded me so much of Aang saying that to Zuko. However, I am only thinking of Aang because of Honest Trailers drawing the similarities between Raya and Avatar.
“Actually no, no she is not, im sorry but no, you shot her, no” LITERALLY MY THOUGHTS
Literally everyone's thoughts🙄
My biggest issue with this was that the villain chick got off Scott free, like every Disney villain is misunderstood and needs redemption these days
She's a young, attractive women. It's long been common that such a character will turn out to be misunderstood or misguided and wind up being redeemed by the end of the film.
That was my issue with the movie "I car a lot", like the old people are still being separated from families but now it's run by the mob...is this a good ending???
Namaari I can let slide, but the mom? 🤨 Eh, even before everything went to hell she was shady... Bad parental figures, once again the top Disney villains 😆
it's a woman in a disney movie... what do you expect?
ktownshutdown21 yeah, I could honestly see some post film expanded story , like a comic or novel, where she starts more trouble for the peace
"A melting part of South East Asian culture and East Asian Voices." Lmao
*melting pot
No joke, Southeast Asian internet circles had a field day ranting about how the movie mish-mashed a lot of their cultures. The Verge got egged on for writing about how SE Asians "can finally see themselves" in that movie when Disney+ literally isn't available in all but 2 countries in the region by its release...wild times.
They sound Muriccan thou
Rayas’ actor is Vietnamese with is south East Asian
Pot
I haven’t laughed like this is a LONG time!!! That avatar entry was CLASSIC 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I like this animation. I was in the cinema on a first day of premiere. I watched many 3D animated cartoons, but this was new experience to me. Gorgeous visuals. I even close my eyes to not so good story and some questions in the end. Visuals and voice of Sisu earn the place in my heart ❤️
Please say in your awesome voice: " The legacy of that shield is complicated"
I literally had to like the video just for the fact you guys put that clip from the Last Dragon movie at the end. Well done! I actually laughed aloud for that one.
Wait don’t tell me I was the only one thinking KISS KISS KISS at the end? Because some kid at the movies a few rows in front of me yelled it out and the entire audience save for the parents were chanting.
One thing I don't like is how they somehow just acted like everything is fine... Like she suffered no punishment for what she did?
Who's supposed to be punished?
namaari
Isn't regret enough of a character development? United we stand, divided we fall, and all that jazz? I don't know. I haven't written a screenplay yet.
@@jpabcede5016 She didn't even say sorry to raya or to the rest of the gang, not even her mom said sorry to anyone like wth
@@jpabcede5016 regret? Did she regret her actions, or just the consequences of those actions? If she actually regretted what she did she would have apologized and taken responsibility for all that happened. Also, come on with that last line. "You can't a movie has some bad parts if you haven't written one, just like you can't criticize the taste of food if you haven't cooked". Don't be so pretentious
And we aint even talkin about how the main character is literally a mixature of Mulan and Moana
How so?
both the way she looks and her personality
She...is Southeast Asian? So yeah she’s gonna look like both of them a bit with skin tones and facial features
Just like with other races, the AAPI community has like similarities in facial features
@@whycantichangemyusername3175 im talking about her personality too. i lowkey feel like they running out of original ideas
How trailers nowadays reveal the whole plot
