Jesus the Voigtländer on the ZF renders fantastically.
Just imagine how much of the market Nikon would start taking if they leaned a lot more into the film sim options.
They don't make their own film, so they'd have to license from Kodak or Ilford. Would be nice if they did!
@@Renzsu yeah would be amazing if they make a deal with Kodak or even Lomo or Ilford and make film simulations out of their film stocks.
That and some AF-D style Z mount lenses to rival fuji with that whole tactile feel!!
Or just make film sims and name them something else. Don’t think you can patent colors.
I’m all about the Kodak licence deal.
Nothing has changed for me. I still want all the greatest cameras from every manufacturer. Thanks for the fun comparison.
Your images out of the Nikon ZF are simply breathtaking. Looks like medium format.
Thank you! And I personally wasn’t expecting to see such a difference, was a bit surprised myself!
@@cammackey Something about Nikon colors just looks richer and more cinematic than Canon and Sony and some Nikkor glass looks very much like Cooke lenses. Looking forward to your project with the Z8.
The Z lenses are so good.
@@cammackey Please make a video specifically on the "film sim" on your ZF, the DENIM profile looks incredible
Indeed
Been a Fuji shooter for over 10 years. The ZF is what I feel Fuji should have done instead of going the GFX route. Love my 50R but it is SLOW and CLUNKY. The 50mp files slow my Mac down and now I only use it for special occasions when I'm not shooting hundreds of photos. It doesn't look that much better than full frame in my opinion, and with all of the super bright glass available for mirrorless the gap is virtually non-existent now. I don't know if the ZF will capture the market like Fuji has with the TikTok crowd though, but let them have the X100. Experimenting with the Panasonic S5II Live Lut feature now has me laughing at film simulations because they're obsolete. I can get literally any look ever in that camera and it has incredible video to boot. Love your ZF build the brass is to die for.
Yeah dude that LUT support is a game changer. Every camera company should be doing it now. But yeah Fujifilm needs a full frame. I love their medium format.. but it’s just not as fast and convenient as full frame YET
Thanks for the info! The ZF's profiles look great! I'm enjoying this camera for weddings and real estate photo and video work! Once you customize the buttons, it's so easy to shoot with.
Nikon can throw a killer punch to fuji if they just picked up the phone and dialled Kodak and license a Kodachrome sim...Also Nikon should just re house their old Ai lenses and put an AF motor.. I bet they will sell a lot, even people who don't shoot zf will buy it.
very good Thoughts!
Great video tks. Very pleasing to watch. Is there a big difference in video auto focus accuracy between the 2. Which one is more reliable. Thanks
In the perfect world we could own every camera and enjoy them whenever we want. For me the zF lacks two things, native lenses with aperture rings and the 45MP sensor from the Z7. What’s somehow worth mentioning, the leather on the zF doesn’t feel good, doesn’t look good and the Grip is hilariously bad. Even for a vintage look alike retro style camera. And I am very much drawn to have both cameras in my back. Because why not? Both can be work horses but are mostly to be a playful alternative to get creative and going. I am also a little disappointed with the built quality of my X-T5, my X-T2 and X-H1 feel more tanky and with higher quality feel. But well. Quality became expensive and with the zF you become a fullframe camera but with lower MPs, less native Nikon retro style lenses and you pay more. And I got Nikon Z lenses in the household ( I am not the owner of these) and the quality is outstanding but these heavy modern looking lenses would never look good on the zF nor feel good and inspiring. I don’t know. I am very much attracted to the zF but not in its current version.
You really have SOOC out of the zf dialed pretty well. You sold me
Awesome comparison! Absoultely what I need as I am in the market for a camera and I narrow down to xt5 and Nikon Zf!! Thank you for this great video!
Great video, love the look of your custom settings with the Pure color profile on the ZF, I’m looking for the settings in the description where can I find them?
Those SOOC are just amazing, from both cameras!! Have you shared your Classic Neg from fuji recipe? Would much appreciate Sir
I shoot Fuji X and GFX, and picked up the XT5 recently. It is tiny, build quality feels borderline cheap, but, with event photography having a small, light and flexible camera is great to stay up with the play. Capturing moments on the go is helped if the camera doesn't get in the way, so while that edge in image IQ goes to Nikon, the Fuji will get the job done without the comparative weight. Respect to Nikon for bringing out the stunning Nikon ZF, but you are right, a few more classic styled retro primes would be epic.
I’ve been a Nikon shooter for years and love the ZF but went down the Fuji path because the gear is so compact and lightweight. I’m tired of carting bags of heavy weight bodies and glass to the point i stopped photography but back into the passion thanks to Fuji.
If you make another/final video i will HAPPLY watch it. I feel torn and dont have money for both. Your videos have helped alot
This is an eye-opener! Have shot on a ton of Fuji bodies, and never on the Zf. Gotto try one now!
@cammackey. Thank you for the great video. Can I ask a question regarding your experience using manual lens with adapter. If you need smaller aperture, will the viewfinder still be bright enough to see? I have a set of 5 Contax Zeiss lenses I really want to keep using them. Thank you in advance.
Have both the Zf and the X100VI and they’re both fantastic. The Zf also has the manual assist where it punches in to the focus point to dial it in.
The cost of lenses was why I bought an X-T3 three years ago. I looked at the lens costs of the Sony, Canon and Nikon FF systems and new I wouldn't be able to afford them. With Fuji, I got a great deal on a barely used camera with the 18-55. Since then, I also got the old xf56 and the xf90 in barely used condition, under $500 for each. I have a some Canon FD lenses and an old Pentax 50mm f1.7 that I use too. The most expensive of those was $35.00. So, it's been a good choice so far. I still use and really enjoy that camera. It's a tank. I take it out hiking in all kinds of weather too. The only lens I'd still like to get is something with a bit more reach. I dream of the 50-140 for sports photography, but budget isn't quite there right now. I really wish the xf90 could take the 1.4X teleconverter!! I've used the xf90 for some sports shooting and it does a great job, but a little more would be nice. Thanks for your thoughts! Have a great weekend.
Yeah Fuji is great for saving money!! That’s part of the reason I originally looked into fuji at first too back in the day. The XT2 Was my first mirrorless camera!
I think Fuji hits a nice balance between being “only” S35 and the cost of the system. Then they have cameras like the XH2S that hit with the big boys in video with excellent DR and surprising latitude. If you want FF Fuji to Mf
Hey Cam, I got those two fuji lenses the 35mm 1.4 and the tamron. The tamron is great for run and gun doco work you can get usable bokeh when needed and the image stabilization is great for small pans on the go.
Awesome videos. Awesome style. Been following for a few months. Have you dabbled with the ZF video? Im in the nikon system. Been thinking about the zf or jumping to A7Cii. Looking to start trying out video and have a compact travel camera. I've messed with the A7Cii at the camera store. I love the form factor but ergonomics weren't the best. Lenses kept rubbing my finger. Is that something you just get used to with sony? Also awesome hat! Road runner? Where can i purchase? I'm cayuga in NY. Always love reppin fellow native designs
Great video! What thumb grip do you use on the Zf? I have the Smallrig grip but I’m looking for a good thumb grip.
love this video, the photos are fire!
I'm still waiting for the Zf to get to me. I chose the Zf because I have a lot of old glass that I want to use on it. I find the full frame 24 MP sensors to be the sweet spot for my old lenses. Another advantage of the Nikon Z mount (like the E-mount) is the TechArt AF adapter.
Man I won’t lie, I would kill for like a 40-50mp version of the Zf
@@cammackey I would kill for high res Nikon in retro body inspired by their Nikon S rangefinder.
Got ya and that's why I decided to buy the Fuji; because I already own a Sony A7III and many decent and heavy lenses with f 1.4; I wanted to have APSC for street photography (to be not seen as a professional photographer) and the film simulations and color for film and photo because they remind me to my early days in the 90s starting with the Canon AE1.
The ZF reminds me of a ff X-T4 and that’s pretty much all I ever wanted to Fuji to make haha I need a better lowlight performer for the concert video I do. You able to pick between them yet?
thumbnail goes so hard
I’m ready to move onto the ZF. Just going to wait for the price to drop a bit, if it ever does.
Check out Nikon refurbished. This weekend they have the zf for $1599 bucks which I thought was pretty killer on what I'd say is a new camera
Thank you fantastic video and comparison. I basically sold my Canon R6 because I couldn’t afford the RF lenses and converted to XT4 and XH2s and don’t get me wrong its a fantastic system and it delivers for 95% of what i need for my event work. But sometimes i miss the Full frame robustness and high ISO performance, im just waiting to see if Nikon Z mount will open to 3rd party lens manufacturers as im loving the ZF the reviews have been mainly positive and it definitely feels like the a tool i could use together with my Fuji system out on events.
I bought my first "real" camera last year, it's a Fuji xt30ii. I'm in love with the xtrans 4 sensor, and the film sims. Check out vibrant Arizona film sims, it's my favorite. By the end of this year I am going to upgrade to a new camera and it's between these two. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. Got about a year to make that decision, but this video highlights the difficulty of the choice. If I get the ZF in brown I can't sell the xt30ii, I need to have both systems.
Hi cammackey you have try bothe camera XH2, XH2S & X-T5 which is the best choice because I plan to purchase one of this camera tks
Where did you get this cool grip? Can't find the link in the description. Appreciated!
Do I spot a voigtlander on the Nikon?! Can’t wait for this 🙌🏻
… and those brassed dials 🤤
I do love fuji colors on their jpgs, I much prefer my ZF shooting my ZF though.
Greetings. awesome video. The woodlike custom body color on your Zf looks great, can you advise me where to get it? many thanks.
Its stock! They have different colors
Nikon raw files are tough to beat. I think you can push them harder than Sony, Canon or Fuji.
exactly
And Lumix 😂
@@joshdesposito7228 Yeah I had the S5ii for a while. The video was great but the photos were average. I still think I liked the files coming out of that camera better than Sony though 😂
Out of curiosity what led you to choose Capture 1 over Lightroom? I'd love to see a video showing your Capture 1 workflow.
The Voigtländer lenses are a perfect match for the Zf and Zfc cameras!
I don't necessarily agree with the 'bigger sensor size = better". Sure, full-frame is nice to have, but we're entering a different era. An era where one pays a ridiculous amount more, for a ridiculously small increase in IQ. We're talking APS-C with 40MP. If you can get great looking prints from that X-T5 (which you can), that's all you really need. Unless you need to blow something up 8x the original size. But I can't remember a time when I ever had to do that in my 20 years of shooting.
Well I didn’t say bigger is better. But I do prefer bigger. Regardless, it’s okay to have an opinion. Right or wrong. And there’s a difference between sensor size and megapixels when it comes to print quality. 40mp packed into a smaller sensor is going to look a whole lot different that 24mp packed into a larger sensor. Specially when you go to print. Which I do have project in the works.
@@cammackey oh sure I won't disagree with you on that. But like I said, looking at a regular sized print of about 12"*18", 16"*24", only a true pixel peeper with their nose stuck to the print is really going to see the difference.
Curious if you would share what your tweaks to the Classic Neg and Nostalgic Neg film sims are for Fuji? I know it's very situation/lighting specific for a given look, but I doubt I'm the only one wondering what all you tweak on your Fuji sims? 🙏
the warmer fuji colors get me every time, I know I could do that in post but the less I have to do. If I could use my dad’s old f-mount lenses natively though I would be really intrigued
Bro I felt sorry for you, having to decide between love and love! Thanks for the complete and sincere review.
Give "Portrait impression balance" a try, maybe this will fix the little struggle with white balance on Nikon. It's a setting under "Photo Shooting Menu".
Great video bro 🦾🦾
Now it’s your turn!!!
What’s your take on the Fuji 35mm f1.4? Can it resolve those 40mp or not? There’s A LOT of confusion about that. Ty!
Hmmm I’m not sure. Personally, I love the character the original 35mm f1.4 has. So I don’t really buy it for resolution. If someone wants that, they should probably get the updated WR version
@@cammackey Same here, I’ll just have to live with the tradeoff. The new 33 defeats the purpose of a compact setup, I’d rather have that magic from the old 35 and not fully resolve the 40mp, than have clinical sharpness and a bigger lens.
Just couldn’t put up with that screen that would drive me nuts love the screen on the XT3 and XT5
Try the XF 18mm F1.4 on the XT-5 and see how it compares to the Nikon.
Full frame is simply better
The best images I've seen came out of the Fuji GFX 50s ll using classic neg. Too big of a kit though. The Zf is still my baby. It has everything I need.
Really been considering the zf considering I can sell one RF zoom to pay for it and the Sony e mount sold me. Makes it so much more viable and “safe”.
that intro lmao. Love it man
Have you compared the Z8 files to the ZF files? The Nikon ZF inherits the Z6II sensor and that sensor is just SO different from any other Nikon camera (or just any camera in general) that I've ever used. The photos look so dreamy and nice. You can really see it the most with portraits
I have not! I didn’t know there was that big of a difference!!!
It’s a huge difference! I’ve never seen such variation between cameras within the same brand. My test was between the Z6II, D850 and Z7II on capture one. My guess is that the Z8 will have more of the Z7 type look. The difference goes beyond RAW processing too. The ZF/Z6II sensor is so light and airy while the Z8/Z7 is way punchier and contoured- more similar to the Fujifilm
I think if the zf and the a7c ii (my personal camera) simply just included the option of real time luts in stills mode like the s5ii has it'd make a HUGE difference! I sold my s5ii and got an a7c ii + samyang 35mm 2.8 pancake lens and the body style, size and weight of the whole set up paired with real time luts in stills mode would be as close to a perfect camera (for me) as possible, especially with the new 2.35:1 baked in crop in stills mode
I was thinking about purchasing Sony A7c ii, but video quality straight out of camera doesn't look good according to my research.
Are nikon preset workwell with Sony or Lumix camera?
Its all about the size and portability! Everyone wants a do-it-all camera they can put in their pocket and not having to bring additional lenses!
Cammackey. The best on all of KZhead. Seriously.
Thank you 😭
So Ive got a question, I really like the fullframe look, as I can see in your amazing photos, but I want some of that fujijuice, So if I were to get me an XT-5 and a metbones or viltrox speed booster and use a fullframe lens, what are the chances I get the fullframe look. Also: not that I know that I can know that I can just use my sony lens on a nikon body, I might just get the nikon instead.
There’s a difference between sensor size and a speedbooster. It’ll help for sure, but won’t be the same
@@cammackey aah! got it.. now I dont feel like getting the fuji. 😂😂😂
you can always edit he zf file in post
@@arunashamal but im lazy🤣🤣
Passed down the X-T4 to somebody I was mentoring, for a GREAT price...now I regret it lol. Think I need the X-T5 now...
I rather have the full frame sensor. And having interchange lens is a good option to have
Do you still have the lights you are selling on IG. I’m in LA and interested
First time I come across your channel, and I enjoyed this comparison. I like what you stated near the end about the way both brands manage colour: Fujifilm more fun to play with, Nikon more mature. Everyone likes "fun" but the whole "film simulations" thing is mostly about giving nostalgic marketing names to "over the top" jpeg effects mimicking badly developed or badly archived slides or prints. An illusion of "times gone by". It is very astute but at the end leads to a small number of common looks from Fujifilm photographers that you can spot a mile away. I do not feel that is a good thing, once the novelty has worn off. Nikon are much more candid (or less astute) in the naming convention of their picture controls, and the main ones are more subtle than Fuji's and therefore more useful if you shoot jpeg. They are however also extremely customisable and anyone can push the sliders anywhere they want and rename the mix into film stock names if that helps feel good. I must confess that I am surprised at the success of the X100VI launch and how it shows that the Fujifilm way still strikes a chord with a great many photographers. I guess I am less "fun" than I once was....
Please do a black and white on both?
It's odd to me to hear my contemporaries concerned so much with SOOC jpegs these days. I assumed that every pro shot in raw during shoots. I get jpegs for travel/fun, I would also assume raw files are being produced simultaneously. Regarding IQ, you're getting a taste of what us Nikon shooters have been blessed with since they switched to cmos: best color science and best dynamic range. Now the auto focus has caught up with sony (Z8, Z9, Zf) 👀 The upcoming Nikon Z6 iii will be the second coming of the Sony a7 iii.
You can get back a great deal of the FF look and separation with speed booster. I use AI/AI-S Nikkor glass and Pentax M42 lenses. Yes FF raw files are sharper and more detailed. 8 out of 10 time I prefer SOOC fuji then my edits.
I hate speed boosters personally. And Nikons AF is better than Fujis honestly. I should of talked about that too
@@cammackey yep, AF is a big sacrifice. I just hate wasting time on editing, hence fujilove.
Do you have any video with your "presets" sooc of Nikon Zf?
kzhead.info/sun/htNqgbVxsax4gok/bejne.htmlsi=u6NLjoKGlSjIgVnv
The classic neg you created is magical 🤌.
@@cammackey are the examples in this video the same look settings you showed on this link? You said on the video that you will put the settings in the description. Many thanks for your time. The colours looks great
Are you using the Voigtlander M, E or ZF mounts?
E mount
amazing video
What is the pure film simulation on the ZF??
I have both and it's like being torn between your wife and your lover. Which one to keep. I think the thumb grip of ZF is the deal breaker 👍🤣
I desing some Picture Control presets for Nikon based on Fujifilm film simulations, let me know if you want to try it
ZF
Had a demo of the ZF for a few weeks. Great camera and fantastic IQ. But way to heavy! So I wouldn't use it that much. The x100 series has my vote because of the portability.
Love ZF. But it’s so heavy. Hope Nikon will make ZF mark II with 500gr and rangefinde style.
Any take on how these compare in regards to video?
I haven’t used either of them for video
The hat is dope, brother! Do you sell those?
Soon!!
I checked the description but couldn't figure it out. I have 3 questions: 1. What camera are you using to film the actual video? 2. What color profile/format are you shooting in? 3. Which one of your luts are you using in your video? One of the most aesthetically pleasing videos I've seen on KZhead. Colors are incredible.
Just added them! Thanks for reminding me. I shot this on the Sony FX3 and A7RV, slog3, with my new roadrunner LUTs. They’re on my website 🤘🏽
@@cammackey Love to hear it as I have the FX3! Thanks!
Fun fact: I'm stuck with both cameras now. Can't let either one go. Silly.
Been loving the videos on this channel-keep it up! The Nikon vs Fuji vs Sony or whatever issue for me is moot, since the best colors are always generated w/a ColorChecker profile & 3d lut / .cube film profile added on top. Way better than any sooc jpegs, or stock profile.
the reason why on set some teams use on monitor stylized lut already explains
i have and love the xt5. the zf looks awesome, but i think it's a little low on the megapixel for the price. it's also way too big. i had a large dslr back in the day and it was nice but more recently i bought the xs10 and freekin loved it. now i have the xt5 and it already seams way bigger than the xs10. no way do i want to go to the zf. if i were just doing portraits or local stuff then maybe. for travel, hiking, exploring, and for price, well fuji all the way. ps. i'm including the barely used xt5 and cheaper lenses in the price.
Imo using a full frame camera is crucial when you want to simulate the film look.
Yeah.. like my Canon QL17.. hard to get that same look when I’m wide open on it. Fuji would need to make a compact 23mm F1.1 to get the same look. Crop sensor just make everything feel kinda compressed. Which can look great obviously. But jsut how medium format feels big.. full frame can get close to that feeling
With Nikon it's good to train the biceps🤣
Everyone keeps saying how heavy it is.. Idk if everyone has baby muscles or if they’ve just never actually used it before
@@cammackey 557 gr vs 710 gr, it's simple. I never liked Nikon. Why do you tell us what's good and what's not?!?!plus lenses the difference increases
Did I miss the XPro 1 giveaway?
I can't help but think of Benjamin Kanarek doing front covers for Vogue with an XT4. The ZF is trying to go retro but fails, but if you like it then crack on
Benjamin could shoot on an iPhone 3G and it’ll still look good. Dont discount his talent over gear. Talent trumps gear everytime. And when it comes to work like that, you don’t need crazy separation. For fashion work we shoot at f4 and above a lot.. I’ve shot commercial campaigns with Fuji as well and they hold up for the most part. Where they don’t hold up is when I don’t have control over the lighting and we’re losing a lot of natural light… the files fall apart faster than they would on FF or MF.
@@cammackey But he chose to use Fuji, although he does use GFX at times, his favourite is the XT4 and the 35mm prime, most of his video work done on XT3s. And I agree, if you're any good the gear is not as important as people think. Use what works for you. I for one would never go back to Nikon. It would appear that many Fuji owners other choice of Cameras is Leica, maybe it's the aesthetics.
I may have a fuji bias but I like the shots you took with the Fujifilm the colors look good!
Same :)
Considering the capabilities of the Z8, Z9, and Zf with the Megadap plus the possibility of RED science being kaizen'd into Nikon cameras, I feel that there is no reason beyond fringe cases (A1 users, tech neophytes, and people who need 61 megapixels) to do more than consider other camera systems once the Z6iii releases. So long as it follows current trends, of course. There is literally no reason to consider Canon, other than just liking Canon cameras.
Do you test the x100vi?
Not yet, I ordered it though
Xt5 has great video specs, fast sensor so u can shoot 1/32000, film sim ZF has the big sensor
XT5 has really bad rolling shutter actually. I wouldn’t use either of these cameras for video. XT5 doesn’t have a flip out screen. Both have micro HDMI ports. Hard pass.
@@cammackeyso which one would you use for video 😩…is there a camera with a good sweet spot for both?
I was interested in the ZF. Tried it out at a store and found out it was much heavier than both the xt5 and a7c2, not only was it heavier but the ergonomics was really bad, great camera unfortunately not ideal for traveling.
I disagree, but we all have different needs!!!
Cam what’s that story with that dope hat?
Coming soon!!!
“Sponsored Money” 😂😂😂 Seriously, never shot Fuji gear but always loved Nikon’s color science. Thanks for another trip down the trail, always a pleasure…
Ive been shooting with the x100vi and zf for the last few weeks. I find that the ZF is such a more enjoyable experience to shoot with. The viewfinder and screen are much easier to look at. The image quality to me is much better on the zf. The auto Focus is miles ahead of the fuji. The only thing the fuji has going for it are the film sims, the size, and the built in ND filter. The zf + 40mm f2 is clearly the better value for me.
AGREED!!! ZF feels.. more mature.
The Zf is an absolute bargain considering its capabilities, which are on par with the flagship Z8/Z9. Also, using manual focus lenses with the Zf are an absolute dream!
Love your stuff but what’s with cowboy hats in every video?
Whats with you caring? I’m confused why anyone would care what anyone wears lol
No not you, your models always with cowboy hats!
@@rafibenatar2519haha well, I shoot fashion.. I shoot western.. sometimes I shoot western fashion. That’s like asking why anyone wearing pants in a photo lol
I've got the Zf, XT3 and Xpro2. Have you ever had an Xpro2? That camera doesn't feel like a plastic toy compared to the Zf, it almost feels higher quality/same. The Zf would've felt so much better without an articulating screen though. So much plastic
Yes I loved the XPro 2, but the X100 fits my lifestyle a little better! But agreed the XPro feels great in hand. And I personally prefer articulating screens! I love that I keep it closed and just use the viewfinder
@@cammackey understandable when you do video in the way you do it!
Great video man. Nikons are literally bullet proof. Check out War Photographer Don McCullins Nikon F that took a bullet and saved his life
No, they literally are NOT bulletproof. Lol
I wouldn’t suggest anyone uses a camera to stop bullets, that was hyperbole. But it is a true story that Don McCullin’s Nikon F took a bullet while he was wearing the camera around his neck. Granted the camera was ruined.
Bad ass dude
ZF stealing my heart
Lets face it. The ZF would not exist if it was not for Fujifilm.
very true, which is cool nikon is doing what we all want!!
Both
keep them both. The ZF wins just because of the Z mount and wide open lens selection you have.
Amazing ad read😂
